86 My second time here. I know where Baxterfish is coming from but bunkers do have a place and the barman we came across was very helpful. Take binoculars to read the names of the bottles behind the bar. Good range, an atmosphere of sorts. No food. |
28 Located in an what looks like an underground concrete bomb shelter - uncomfortable & unappealing. Beer range seems fine and prices normal for Estonia (ie high). Taps are listed on the wall and, as is usual for the region, bottles are not listed at all. Barman was abrupt, unwelcoming and kept disappearing upstairs for a fag.
Considering the high ratings, this was a very disappointing experience. |
88 Kleine Kellerbar mit sensationellen Flaschenbierangebot. Studenten bzw. fast schmuddelige underground Atmosphäre. Aber absolut stimmig.
Ein MUSS für Bierenthu

70 Late night saturday visit. Basement bar with friendly atmosphere. Wide selection of beer, but no list, and the staff on duty were not 100% up to speed on the bottles. |
92 2018 January. Without doubt, the best place to go for a beer in Tartu. Named after Barclay de Tolly, a guy to whom there is statue standing just a few meters away. This bar is situated in the cellar, you can't call it crisp and sharp - more like underground metal/punk club, with lots of artefacts hanging on the walls, furnitures made from second hand materials. But it's cozy. The guy who was taking care of bar, it's just a pleasure to meet people like that - very clear idea what they are doing, sophisticated too. Selection is not bad too, boasting some rare stuff. The biggest treat for me was a possibility to do Chimay Blue vertical tasting - I noticed bottle of year 2006 in refrigerator, so went for it together with year 2016. Take a cheese and ham plate. One of the best beer places in the Baltic States. |
80 Visited during RBESG 17. Very small cellar bar, underneath what looked like a snack bar on a small square. Very nice dark atmosphere, a bit too warm inside but plenty of beers to freshen up. Great selection of all sorts of stuff. Knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately I was really tired and left after 1 beer. Would definitely come back, highly recommended place, and Vambola, the owner, is a great guy. Prices are higher than expected, but apparently Estonia is not a cheap country for beer. |
74 Small place located in the cellar below what seems to be a restaurant in a stand alone building next to a park. Intimate and nice inside the pub. Good selection of beers and a friendly staff. |
88 Visited during RBESG ’17. It’s a great little place in the center, a cellar bar underneath a snackbar. There’s not so much space to sit but the beer selection is superb for Tartu with intersting taps and a great selection of bottles. Vambola is super helpful and knowledgeable, as are the other staff, offering genuinely good and useful recommendations of what can appear a daunting stock for a non-local! Essential visit if you’re in Tartu. |
84 Cozy place right in the center of Tartu, cellar of course. Used to be a bottle shop and still has loads of coolers. Draft beers well selected. Nice snax. Good prices. Solid place. A must-visit in Tartu. |
80 Visited August 1, 2017. Definitely the best place fot a beer ticker in Tartu currently. I went there to look for Estonian ticks and Vambola dug up more than I could buy. So, knowledgeable staff, good selection, reasonable prices (for a Finn, at least). Half of the taps were empty during my visit but the remaining ones were well selected and all but one provided Estonian micros. |
