| mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | March 22, 2009 Visited on a growingly busy Friday evening in April, it has a dark dance hall feel with a generally loud din above some background music. Cheap drinks are a plus and quite the bottle selection is noted in a big menu, but the first five we tried to order were out of stock. Service is pretty slow and forgetful and one-task minded. Have tried the wings here: tasty if a little cold by the time they came out. As one lady told me in the washroom, "It’s a little dungeon!"
We visited here again later in the year with a group of eight for birthday drinks. The service was quicker but ruder: she gave us a hard time for not giving a bigger tip when it turns out she was ignoring the $10 in change we had collected. | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | October 2, 2008 What a strange place. They have an extensive multinational beer list but are out of almost all of them. The prices are really good, which is probably why it’s popular, but most folks are drinking Bud Light. Price is the only reason to drink here but you get what you pay for... | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | September 26, 2008 This place blows. It has no idea what it wants to be, as evidence by the myriad of clashing decor and a laughably absurd menu ranging from coq au vin to deep fried pub grub. More than half of the beers we ordered weren’t available. Some bitch shift manager tried to kick us out of our seats for someone else. Prices are very good, but the Rhino is a gong show in pretty much every respect. No way in hell I’m going back to this shithole. | | Sammy (273), Toronto, Ontario | | August 25, 2008 A nice and large round bar. Bottles from what you missed at the LCBO in other parts of the province, basically. Away to the west of downtown. | | jerc (142), Toronto, Ontario | | April 28, 2008 Friday night, arrived around 700. Service was friendly but, well, pretty slow, and forgetful and it was not super busy at that point. We had to ask for a both the beer menu and food menu a couple times each. Fish and chips was average, tasty, in a giant portion! Reversed the usual lots of fries, not much fish ratio. Burgers were enjoyed by my fellow patrons. Tap list was okay, we mostly stuck with Tankhouse (seemed more malty and less hoppy than normal) and Blanche de Chambly. Bottle list is extensive, and fairly cheap on average, but its mostly stuff from the LCBO or available elsewhere. A lot of them aren’t actually available anymore. We tried to order 4-5 things that were not available, which would have been fine, but if you are going to have a tent card on the table pushing Unibroue products, maybe note the fact that theres a few on the list you do not actually carry. Atmosphere is okay, its a biggish room with a fairly broad spectrum of people. All in all we enjoyed it, and we’d go back, but I don’t think I will make a special trip again. | Imperial-John (4), Mississauga, Ontario does not count - explanation | | April 9, 2008 [ Updated June 2, 2008 ] Very Queen Street West feel, all sorts of different people. Been there a few times now and service has been inconsistent between excellent and indifferent. Blown away by such selection in Parkdale westend, almost brought a tear to my eyes. And at reasonable prices, only 2 times retail, as opposed to the 3 times downtown. Unfortunately, many not available. The food was great too!!! The biggest downside, do something about the men’s washroom, wow did it stink of urine, is that where the Rhino goes. Not sure where to deduct the points off for that so will take it from Ambiance. Drive by it everyday on the way home and never realized how good it was. ill be having dinner there many times in the future to avoid rush hour traffic home. | | mephisto (37), , Taiwan | | August 1, 2007 very nice selection of bottled brew and enough on tap. a large bar with patio, the service is good enough and overall is nice place to have a drink. | | tupalev (56), Waterloo, Ontario | | June 18, 2007 [ Updated July 21, 2007 ] Huge area inside with the bar in the middle. Good selection of micro’s on tap and in the bottle (Ontario bottle prices insanely cheap). Cask ale available as well. Not great service, serviceable food. Has its charm, but maybe a local could give a better review - my visits there have been only ok. |
