Went to the main-level bar yesterday for a beer after a tour of the Belgian embassy for the EU Open House. Needed a beer after they pushed us through the embassy and we were stuck with Stella rather than the hoped-for Orval. Walls are red on one side and brick on the other with black wooden tables. Interesting posters on the wall. A few TVs on the wall an plenty more by the bar. Seemed to be a pretty chill place. Service was good. The bartender knew a decent amount and wasn’t too pushy, and was quick with drinks and always noticed when we were running dry. The selection decent but nothing outstanding. Probably around 20 drafts and the same number of bottles. Not an extensive bottle list like other places in the area, and many of the drafts were pretty standard selections. Didn’t have any food. Value was a bit pricey, even for the area. Priced above Churchkey and Paradiso, which is crazy. A nice experience, though I don’t think I’d come back very often unless I’m in need of a beer in Adams Morgan.

One of the larger bars in Adams Morgan, especially with the recent expansion downstairs. 50+ draft lines, primarily stuff you’ll find around town but all at one location and a decent bottle list. Sometimes they get in a few oddities. Ambiance is nice and usually quiet, especially in comparison with the rest of the neighborhood. Bartenders are friendly but not talkative. I have not tried the food. Overall a nice spot, and they regularly update their draft list online. Prices are comparable to PP or Churchkey, maybe a dollar lower.

The Black Squirrel is a three level place - although the bottom "street level" is not directly connected to the top two levels(and so you cannot bring beers in between each, as they would have to go outside). Ate dinner on the mid level, food was better than expected. Decent draft list. The real deal is the basement, with about 20 drafts, some mid level beer geek stuff, a few super geek stuff, but all good choices. Easily the best draft list in Adam’s Morgan, I look forward to returning.

Three floors each with a different atmosphere make this a fun night spot, but not necessarily a good beer bar. For one, it suffers from DC price-gouging. The bouncers are douchey. Extremely. Proper glassware is not given. Most everything seems to come in a shaker. The tap list always has the standard stuff that’s going around, even though the beers are good, there’s never anything uncommon and interesting unless there’s a specific brewery-sponsored event. Decent crowd though, and definitely a heaven of chillness and decency within the scummy admo scene, up there with Bourbon and Pharmacy Bar, but definitely better than those two bars as far as beer selection is concerned. The staff that knows what’s up are always friendly and helpful and usually hook it up if they know you know what’s up. Still, some of the staff isn’t too familiar with what they’re pouring, and that is not characteristic of a stellar beer bar. I’ve also had the occasional 10oz pour on beers that could at least have a 12oz pour. No signs of tap-line contamination, so they must be good with their tap-system sanitation. Haven’t had any food yet, so I cannot comment there. The basement is my fave here.

A pretty decent place that gets a few of the same oddities that come in and out of Churchkey and Pizzeria Paradiso- probably the same distributors. Black Squirrel is right in the ass crack of Adam’s Morgan, which is the Bourbon St of DC. Thursday-Saturday night 9pm-4am this place is a riotous shit show. Black Squirrel can pride itself in being probably the only bar in Adam’s Morgan during these nights that does not go bat shit crazy with hundreds of drunk people dancing all over the place. Black Squirrel can be given props just for being a "safe haven" from all the vomit and arrests going on outside. With that said, Black Squirrel just expanded so there is now a nice basement with huge bar and about 10 or so taps that are pretty good. All American crafts for the most part with rarities that have shown up in the past like Goose Island Dominique, Firestone Walker Abacus. Quite impressive. Prices are pretty high, but no different than Churchkey or Pizzeria Paradiso (on non happy hour night). This is not really the place I would recommend over Paradiso or Churchkey, but if you are in the area while it is crazy going out night, stop in here to not get killed slash have some pretty special beers.

I liked this bar - and have been here several times. They had a pretty good selection on tap, didn’t really check out their bottles. The bartender was very pleasant, and helpful, he even let me use the bar wifi! Hope to make it back to try the food. Oh wait, I did try the food, I had a duck confit springroll that was really tasty!

Visited during vacation in November. Ran across it by mistake after seeing beer signs in the window. Walked in and was surpirsed by the beer selection. Place was busy on a Friday and bar area kinda cramped but once we got a seat it was all good. Great beer selection and the first time I had Breakfast Stout, bonus that it was on tap. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgable. Had a great time and went back twice before leaving back home. Did not try the food so cannot say much about it. Menu did look great though.

Small narrow place in Adams Morgan. They do food (didn’t eat) but this is unmistakeably a bar rather than a restaurant. Comfortable and welcoming, although I can imagine it being a bit of a crush at weekends. Slightly alternative feel. The beer list isn’t huge but has some decent quality offerings. Service was efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable. The female bartender had been to a Brewlab brewing course in Sunderland (UK) and they are planning a brewery in the basement. Watch this space.

Ive been here a few times, but wanted to spend a night here before putting up a review since I live so close. I’ve still only been downstairs though. Great bartender She was rocking the bar by herself on a very busy Saturday night and was a champ. She offered up suggestions that were good and she was very knowledgeable about the beer list. The beer list which was a good size (about 70 I hear) but all quality. I like the old sports magazine covers on the walls. It’s the best place to grab a beer if you are out in the zoo that is my neighborhood and home, Adams Morgan.

This was a nice find on my recent trip to Washington D.C. We had a party of 8 and called ahead for a Monday night. I was told there was WiFi and informed about the beer selection that was spot on. When we arrived, I was greeted with our table and given the Network Password. The bar was full but there was only about two or three other tables. I had a burger, which was their specialty, and it did not disappoint! Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the beers. I would like to see more on draft and be allowed to take a few bottles to go. Must be a D.C. law.
