90 As a former student at UofM, this is was a second home. The staff was extremely helpful, and their selection was the reason I was able to get into craft beer. They had a HUGE selection at competitive prices. I would frequent this location often and I am sad to hear it recently closed. BRING BACK BELLO VINO. |
8 Store closed January 15, 2009. |
88 One hell of a grocery store. Stopped in on way back to Chicago from Detroit and I am glad I stopped in. They have a huge selcetion of both wine and beer. Great imports and belgains. Tons of six packs and good selection of domestic bombers. What makes this place truely special is the singles selection. They have close to 150 singles available. We are not talking about crappy singles either. They have the full line of Bells, Founders, DFH, Dark Horse, Arbor, Arcadia, Brooklyn and ton of other local breweries. Place is basically a gormet market. If I ever have the chance to go to Detroit again I will make sure I stop back in. |
98 Outstanding selection of both bombers and 12 ouncers, with I’d guess 50-75 of the latter available as eaches. As an out-of-stater, I was able to pick up a lot of stuff not available in Illinois. No bargains, but prices were reasonable. HIghly recommended detour. |
80 A gourmet grocery store with an extensive wine selection and a very densely backed beer corner in the back of the store. Stacks and shelves of individual bottles, four packs and six packs are surrounded by refrigerators.
Here, I picked up: Beer Geek Breakfast, Hopslam, Kalamazoo Stout, Third Coast Old Ale and a few other MI favorites. They also carry a huge supply of Jolly Pumpkin stuff.
Look up the hours before you goit closes early. Apparently, the beer guy is extremely knowledgeablebut wasn’t working on the day I was there.

86 Wow. What a great place. I walked back to the beer section with a basket, thinking I’d only pick up three or four things, but man I should have taken a cart. That basket felt like it was going to break with all the good stuff I found there, and that was probably less than a third of the things that leaped out in my brief fifteen minutes there. Several brands that I wasn’t aware were even available in the area, and well-stocked in each brand. I think I’m going to have to go back and recalibrate my selection ratings for other stores. In addition, the beer staff member seemed to be doing a pretty good job of helping another group pick some beers while I was there. Prices are pretty decent, cheaper than the Beer Depot downtown on comparable items. |
82 Nice - and another THANK YOU to my brother fro driving me there. While I had already picked up many items I saw there, the selection was good and the beer buyer approached me to see if I needed help. |
82 Bello Vino was located on my route to my work for a year, so I stopped in a lot. Drew introduced me to some great Belgians, which I particularly enjoy and of which they had a pretty exceptional selection. They didn’t always have the rare local micros, so the store is probably not worth traveling long distances for, but I really have no complaints. |
76 Based on previous ratings, I was expecting a treasure trove of kuhnhenn and other obscure MI brews - I got nothing of the sort - in fact, there were no kuhnhenn beers at all, and aside from one or two jolly pumpkin that are hard (but not impossible) to find out of state, there were no MI brews I couldn’t get elsewhere in the midwest (minus the 10 cent per bottle deposit!) - however, if my expectations weren’t so high, I would have been quite suprised, especially considering the fact that this is a grocery store (when’s the last time you saw Cantillon in a grocery store?) - fairly extensive micro selection - I grabbed a handful of dark horse brews I’d yet to try - there wasn’t much else to rave about - it was nice, but I am leaving MI with far less beer than I thought I would - I guess that’s good for my wallet. |
88 Bello Vino is awesome. Anything you want in singles, great. A fantastic selection of Michigan micros and world beers. Drew and Matt are some of the most knowledgeable beer purveyors around. Prices are great too. |
