66 2020 : Tolkien theme obviously that didn’t fully work or make sense all that much sense. Smoke, patio, more spacious area. Memorabilia & posters etc. Selection is not too impressive veering to macro almost with some Belgians and locals. Apparently a pioneer for craft in Zagreb but the place hasn’t moved along with times it seems. Not too impressive but okay. Note cash only. |

70 Pleasant garden area with some cover, and a small, smoky bar area. Service was very friendly and helpful. Small choice of draft beers with bigger bottle selection. Always seemed much more relaxed than the busier, noisier bars further down the street. |

62 At the very top of one of the beer bar streets, nice view of a small church, and next to a park. Dark interior, just one small room, filled with cigarette smoke when we visited. Terrace was better, uncovered, larger than the interior. Friendly barman. Taplist so-so but bottle list was more interesting. |

56 One of the first pubs to serve Belgian beers back in the early 21st century, while it was still on St. Catherine Square. Now it is located on Opatovina street among other craft beer bars and small restaurants. Styled after Tolkien's novels motifs, the pub has a patio outside and a small room inside, although packed with details. A few taps and quite a few bottles, not the greatest selection. It was worth a visit for its ambience alone but it became a right-wing party gathering ground so there is no point in visiting any more. |
58 Very weird place. I don’t get the high ratings... Very mediocre beer selection. Service was rather slow. Had an Orval. When it starting raining all of a sudden, it wasn’t a hard decision to leave quickly. |
38 Rather bizarre place, and I’m quite surprised by the high ratings. Rather touristy feel to the place, with its Tolkien theme. The beer selection was pretty basic, and the atmosphere was rather "plastic" . We visited far better places in the city. |
78 Prime location, in the very heart of the Old Town, makes this cozy but rather tacky (unless you are a fan of Tolkien and have had too many beers before your visit) venue an ideal place to stop and taste some good Croatian craft beers. The selection is impressive, featuring new domestic micros and some decent, mostly German, macros. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The only drawback is, as pointed out in an earlier review, that the bill does not match the prices on the menu. However, the difference, at least in my case, was negligible, and it may have been due to the menu not being up to date. I would be happy to come back one day, perhaps to try the food, too. |
