70 This place is worth visiting just to see the restoration work done on the bar, sadly neglected by British Rail for decades, and the even fancier First Class Waiting Room that now houses the brewing equipment. Two house beers on when I visited, a pale ale and a stout, plus nine guest casks and some keg beer. Barman was friendly and helpful. No food. On track 1B and you don't need a train ticket to visit, you can enter from trackside or from the pavement in front of the station. |
74 Proper old school pub, everything is just dark wood. Decent selection of local ales. A must visit, especially if you're coming to Sheffield by train. |
62 Very interesting and historically kept ambiance. The beer list was okay, was able to get some house beers which was the reason for the visit. Service was nice, but laxed a bit of effort. |
52 Visited 13/7/2021. Still under some covid restrictions so didn’t get the full Tapped experience (having previously enjoyed Newcastle and Leeds taps). Sat out front which is set up nicely with around 20 tables, about half were occupied. Table service only. Had to choose from a beer list which wasn’t especially easy to navigate with little time given to think. Chose a couple of house brewed halves which were ok at best. Lasting memory of the place will be being served by one of the most irritable and miserable people I’ve met in a hospitality situation for very many years. Maybe I’ll see it again sometime and have a more enjoyable time. |
76 Beautiful setting though due to this extremely busy and difficult to get a seat. Good selection on tap, more cask heavy. Difficult to see bottles in fridge but ask for menu. Liked the Bernard Dark offering on tap. Good meeting spot with plenty of choice. |
82 As rail station bars go, this place is a winner in my opinion. An impressive range of cask ales greeted me, my pint of oatmeal stout went down smoothly. A multi roomed establishment, so you can have a quiet pint if you want to escape the main bar when it's crowded. Will drop by again when I am in Sheffield. |
82 I wonder if I let expectations get ahead of themselves. This place is very good but not mind-blowing. BUT....let's remember the location...a regional train station! So yes pretty freaking good. About 20 taps; mostly true to traditional / regional styles so don't expect a crazy hopped IPA; good pricing; super friendly staff. Inspires one to leave for work early! |
82 Great train station pub. They brew their own beers and at our visit you could smell the wort. Unfortunately they only had two of their own cask beers on, which was somewhat disappointing, but they had an excellent selection of guest casks and kegs to go along with an extensive bottle and can selection. Good service. |
82 Excellent pub just by the station. Great beer selection from around the northern counties. Only two of their own beers were available on cask. Interior was traditional pub style. |
78 Nothing wrong with this place--great beer, great surroundings. Went in rather early, so it wasn't busy. But I was thirsty from the train and this place was just the job--nice comfortable seats and a place you can chill in. It's a reasonable size, so I reckon it could take a lot of clientele before it got stressy. It's been well designed to be a traditional venue, but one that is newly fitted and looks smart, without being corporate. Barman knew what he was doing and the beers were well kept. Bit of a gem. Nip in here for half an hour rather than hang about in the station. |
