Visited on a Friday afternoon around 3 PM for beers. Located in a pretty cool part of downtown, this place consisted of four floors which I think is the most I know of for a brewpub. We only saw the ground floor though. The place wasn’t very crowded, so our service was great. We got samplers of their six beers, all of which I thought were good. I especially enjoyed their seasonal Dubbel. We didn’t eat, so I cannot comment on that. The brewmaster, Dean, came down to our table and talked with us about beer for about 30 minutes, and he was a pretty cool guy. The price was about as expected. If you are in the downtown Omaha area, I definitely recommend checking this place out.

If you focus on the beer, you will have a super visit to Jobber’s. If your goal was to interact with waitstaff and bartenders who can remember what is on tap and/or secure you a refill, you might want to head somewhere else. Best advice: sit at the bar, because if you are lucky Dean-the-brewer will be around, and he is one of the most delightful people in the city of Omaha. Another tip: ridiculously cheap select appetizers during happy hour - if you order the homemade potato chips, ask for ranch on the side.

This is my favorite brewpub in Omaha. If you are an out of town Ratebeerian and are planning to visit this brewpub, you must contact me and I’ll come hoist a pint with you. The Brewer, Dean Dobmeier, is the nicest guy on the planet. He is oftentimes seen drinking beer at the bar with the customers. He comes across as the most humble person you will ever talk beer with. The food is quite good, but pricey. This used to be a disgustingly smokey place until the City-wide smoking ban, so now you can enjoy good beer without the pesky cancer. The only drawback is that I have yet to meet a single bartender who knows jack-shit about beer at this place. It’s hard to find people who are willing to work minimum wage jobs in Omaha, and my guess is that Jobbers does not pay well as the beer IQ is quite limited. The idea at this place is apparently that the customer is ALWAYS WRONG, as I have had more than one staff person argue with me about something that they have screwed up. However, with that said, the awesome nature of the world’s nicest brewer (Dean) totally makes up for the lousy management at this place.

Had a couple beers with Sledge Jr here during my last visit to Omaha. Average brewpub beers and okay food.

First visit on 31 January 2006: Missed out on the opening of this new brewpub while I was out of town for a few months. Finally visited on a very slow Monday night. First, I was disappointed at the unimaginative renovation of an historic building with a lot of potential. Second, I was seriously unimpressed with the service and the lack of knowledge of the employees. Third, I was seriously unimpressed with the beer ... pretty much stock recipe standards with little to distinguish them. Finally, the saving grace was the food ... pretty good. All in all, I don’t think I’d ever opt for Jobber’s Canyon over Upstream. On subsequent visits, I’ve been blessed with at least one decent bartender. And their home-made potato chips "rock!" Go during the happy hour and sample their wares, then go to Upstream.
