64 Small cafe/bar adjacent to the Mont Des Cats monastery. Truly beautiful views from the top of the hill. The cafe/bar has really ramped the prices up in recent years, but it’s still a pleasant place to enjoy a Mont Des Cats, Hommelbier, Chimay or one or two other regional beers. Note there is now a seperate gift shop in the monastery itself which sells Mont Des Cats to take out that is cheaper than the cafe. |
62 Located in a beautiful area above on top of the hill the Mont de Cats. Cosy Inn with the Trappist Mont the Cats on bottle. |
64 Visited 13/VI/2010. A lot of waiters running around for a place that was quite big, but not at all very busy. Had some Hommelbier, as the Mont des Cats trappist beer was non-existent at the time. Friendly staff, they stamped a declaration for me, that I was not in Belgium on Sunday June 13th, so I didn’t have to go vote (as we were on holidays in the area). |
68 Very quiet when we were visiting, on a Monday afternoon. The atmosphere was OK though, and it looked like a good meal can be enjoyed (which unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to find out as we were a bit in a hurry).
The nearby monastery is a beautiful place, and their cheeses are marvelous! |
60 Well, you can drink a Mont des Cats over there. But you’ll pay like 5euros voor a 33cl. If you realise that 10k further, you’ll have a Westvleteren 12 for 4,7euro...
Nevertheless, glad I’ve been there, I enjoyed my Mont des Cats (2 weeks after the beer was released). |
66 Bound to become famous as it is bang opposite the next Trappist brewing abbey. It will need to get its act polished a bit before then though, as it is a bit ’small town’, not helped by the Chimay-brewed special Mont des Cats beer being, well, in need of some practice. Nice wood-burning stove though and very friendly. One to watch though, so pop in. |
