| mcmisko (11), New York | | April 7, 2012 Not a big selection to choose from, but the beers there are good. SOme rare stuff here too. Can be a bit pricey, but where else are you going to go to get this stuff on tap? | | F_radar (30), Paris.Bxl.Geneve, France | | October 2, 2011 Très cozy, une superbe sélection avec de la qualité et pas du nombre, des prix un peu élevé par rapport aux autres bars. | | biirra10 (12), , Italy | | August 6, 2011 A real good place, my first place in USA, and I enjoyed it at all. Good staff and coice of beers on tap. | | chimay67 (58), hunt sta, New York | | January 16, 2011 They are now up to 8 taps. Very popular, so turnover of taps is very frequent meaning the quality of their drafts are excellent. Very cozy confines means that it can be difficult to snag a seat, but the staff will help you out with finding a spot to squeeze you in. Didn’t have food here, but it smelled and looked great. Very helpful and well versed staff. Bottle list is well chosen and outstanding. A must hit in South Slope. | fastpass17 (2), does not count - explanation | | April 24, 2010 [ Updated November 18, 2010 ] Enjoyed the selection. Very pricey. | | JoeMcPhee (398), Toronto, ON, Ontario | | March 13, 2010 Cool looking spot. Narrow bar with tall, narrow bar tables running perpendicular to the axis of the main room. The walls are covered with beer shelves that are full of bottles for purchase, either to drink here or for take out. The nice thing is that you can try pours from some pricy bottles that they pour by the glass. These are usually bottles that would run 25-50 bucks and even though the pours are pricy, they are less than you’d pay for a bottle. Service is top notch and the owners are attentive without being obtrusive. It is very pricy though, so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock. It’s still kind of a cool concept though and worth checking out. | | beershih_tzu (12), Brooklyn, New York | | January 11, 2010 I scored this place differently than most of the previous reviewers on ambiance. Goes to show you what my taste level is I guess. Seems so stuffy... the selection is beyond compare. Maybe not in a good way if you’re looking for a place to go to frequently. Very, very obscure and priced accordingly. I’d guess they charge around a dollar an ounce at least for the draft beer. Lovely people, stuffy clientele, very small room (fits 20?), food is amazing but pricey. I don’t know... perfect for some, not for me or most of my friends. | vferg (5), Livingston, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | October 27, 2009 The bar itself is very nice looking, I thought colonial times with a bit of modern styles thrown in. Very small as well with it only featuring 3 long tables that can fit about 6 to 8 people depending upon the group. Every time I have visited it has never been to crowded with only about 8 to 10 others in the place at the same time. It was great to here very soft playing music, all of it which seemed to range from ambient, classic and modern folk and jazz, light electronic, and newer indie music which is a very popular genre for this area at the moment. It all fits the mode perfectly and if I ever saw this place packed I probably wouldn’t enjoy myself.
The service was very good as well. They can explain all the beers on tap as well as any of the bottles they carry with great knowledge. My only complaint would be that their descriptions normally tasted nothing like they described most of the time and some of the descriptions made absolutely no sense.
Selection was very unique carrying mostly the rarer imported beers which almost nobody has ever tried, even on this site! My problem with the place seemed to be they only carried 3 taps and 1 cask and both times everything they had on was only decent and horribly overpriced (which I will get to later). Bottle selection was the same, mostly imports and a little overpriced.
The food menu was very interesting. They have about 10 different options and the menu is always rotating. Most dishes reminded me of tapas, very small and just enough to sample something different to try with your beer. Some things were a little to eclectic for my taste though.
The place is very nice to visit every once in a while but I doubt if anyone can make a habit of returning here frequently due to the outrageous prices they charge. Sure the beer they get is imported but even the ones that weren’t were still about $10 all the way up to $14 for just a pint! Bottle pricing was not much better, and it wouldn’t be so bad if they were all beers you couldn’t find in stores but about half can and were over double the price of them in stores which is a bit absurd considering even other bars have had the same beer for much cheaper. | | BarKeeper (14), Brussels, Belgium | | July 27, 2009 Hello !
One of the most impressive bar in my East Coast trip. Impressive because they sell the beer like good wine. Ambiance, atmosphere, ... Everything make me think about wine. And this is not wine, this is beer !
Selection’s amazing, best products from various part of the world.
| | redlight (50), Winter Park, Florida | | May 26, 2009 The best place i went to while in New York. Justin has an awesome job! The food menu is small but is creative and everything we tried was excellent! I had the beer cheese and bread, pickled eggs, and the schlenkerla sausages! And the fact they do it all in the small space behind the counter is very impressive. The beer list is not huge but everything on it is awesome! |
