| onceblind (66), Denver, Colorado | | February 21, 2012 Nice long bar table with seating for maybe 25. Plenty of different things on tap to please newbs and vets alike. Very friendly and attentive staff. The Firkin Fridays are plenty of fun, but is kinda hit-or-miss. I like how they have constant seasonal stuff that changes every few weeks. Great ammount of natual lighting from plenty of windows, as well as a great view of the brewery proper. Also, its connected to a homebrew shop. | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | December 7, 2011 (Visited 07/2011): Dry Dock is situated on the southeast side of Aurora on East Hampden Ave at the end of a plaza within a larger plaza. Parking spots are abundant in both but were scarce on my visit.
The building is segmented to a tap room on the left and a homebrew shop on the right. On the tap room side the wavy bar is along the left, looking directly into the brewery. Opposite that are long tables with high chairs. More seating is available on picnic benches between. There is a patio outside as well. The right side is a shop which happened to be packed on my visit as it looked like they were doing some kind of tasting. As such I was not able to do more than poke my head in.
Dry Dock has around 9-10 of their beers on tap, including a couple seasonals. Many have a maritime theme such as HMS Bounty Old Ale or USS Enterprise IPA. They are pretty much all above average with no real standouts. Sampler paddles area available too.
Service on a weekday afternoon was good. I was served by multiple bartenders and they were all friendly and well-versed in their selection.
No food here aside from popcorn, although there is a pretty good rib joint (Revned) a couple doors down.
Overall this is a solid brewery/tap room to visit in the Denver/Aurora area. | | craftbeerdesign (92), Alpharetta, Georgia | | November 29, 2011 big taproom / small brewery with a homebrew store attached in a strip mall in Aurora. great beer. nice samplers available. AHA discount. tons of seating. | | maltdog (68), Colorado | | November 7, 2011 Arrived at "opening" time on a Sunday and there were already 15 or so customers. Two barkeeps were filling samplers (you can choose which 6 you want to try), growlers and pints nonstop. Roomy and uncluyttered with ample seating. Free popcorn only , but others were bringing in burgers and pizza, or having food delivered. Acoustic musicians practicing in the far corner. Attached homebrew shop is extremely well stocked; however whole grains seem to about 75% Weyermann, the balance Simpsons (UK) and miscellaneous... almost no North American malts. All the beers I tried were very good, solid and clean, maybe a little too clean in that nothing really made me jump up and say wow... a little recipe experimentation could make them really interesting. Only real gripe I have, besides trying to catch the bartenders’ attention, is that beers were served slightly too cold. Still a very good tasting room I would recommend to anybody. | | GarrettB (11), Littleton, Washington | | July 13, 2011 Dry Dock is my Summer 2011 destination of choice for beer. My girlfriend and her roommates make the drive out here to have a couple of pints over cards and bring a growler home for board game night. You can start your trip with a quick sidetrip to the Brew Hut, an adjacent and connected home brewing store. Feel free to oggle to the variety of supplies and take a small sample or two of the barleys available in the grain depot. Then head to the mildly nautical themed brewpub, where you can see some of the guts of the brewing from behind a bar and a pane of glass. The service is timely and attentive, and there’s even some free popcorn from a popper to quench the munchies. There’s a lot of beers here you can’t find in the store, and some are excellent. Frankly, some of the scores Dry Dock’s beers earn are shockingly low (*cough* Old Bligh *cough*) but that first oak-aged sip was what made me really fall in love with this place. They don’t mind if you bring food in, so feel free to haul in some cheap grub like pizza. Dry Dock’s pub is a casual environ, but packed with delicious beer run by enthusiastic and extraordinarily talented brewers. | Rumple4Skin (2), Salt Lake City, Utah does not count - explanation | | June 17, 2011 This place is great! they had a selection of 13 beers and a few you could only get at the brewery. The atmosphere is something different being attached to a homebrew supply store. It was a pleasant discovery to be able to walk indoor over to the supply store and check out the brewing splendors while enjoying an oak aged double IPA. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. It would be nice if they would add a pizza cooker or something of the sorts to keep you sober while tasting, but the free popcorn machine is a great addition. Definitely come check out this slightly out of the way brewery, you will not be disappointed. You earned the gold for best small brewery of the year. Cheers and keep up the great work! | Steezbrew (1), Colorado does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2011 My introduction to beer. Before drydock were the hipster brews. I remember the first time I smelled their brewery; the smell of mashing always reminds me of Drydock/Brew-hut (Brew hut is the home-brew show attached).
When I first experienced Drydock, they were quite a bit smaller. A VERY tiny- I would call it friendly- tap room with a popcorn machine.
I moved into a neighborhood down the street from Drydock and wanted to share my new love with my neighbors. The owner, I believe his name is Kevin, was very excited to give me a "crowd pleaser" and a beer for "brew lovers." Nail on the head.
I am a fan of the nastagic, and this place definately is nastalgic. I much appreciate Drydock Brewing as a member of the Aurora, CO community. | alesandangling (6), Pueblo, Colorado does not count - explanation | | April 25, 2011 I had a great time here. I tried all, but one of their beers, and I was thoroughly impressed. Every beer I had was good. I even enjoyed some styles that I don’t usually like. My personal favorites were the double ipa and the strong ale. I was surprised by the apricot and the vanilla porter, they weren’t overly sweet like some other examples of these styles. They had very good flavor though. I couldn’t complain about any of the ten different beers I tried there, and that was definitely a new experience for me. I’ll definitely be back.
| sheanb (4), Aurora, Colorado does not count - explanation | | March 15, 2011 The ONLY real craft brew in Aurora. BJ’s does not count the beer is made in Boulder than brought to Aurora. Also don’t rate this place on food. They don’t serve food. Keeps cost low and the beer at a good price. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | February 10, 2011 . A small place, a decent and nice bar. The server was very nice, and one of the brewers just came out, poured me an unfiltered altbier before it was going on line, and disapeared (a plus). Kids around ( a plus), very inexpensive. Hwoever, most of their beers though often flavourful, were overcarbonated. In a nice suburb, so lots of free parking. Most patrons walking around, not unfriendly, but a few just too drunk and loud so not a place for my young daughter. Brew their own rootbeer which I liked but not sweet enough for the designated driver (my wife).
