Certainly worth a detour if you’re in the area. It’s just a five minutes walk from the railway station, and pretty close to the main road between Oslo and Trondheim, so it’s easily accessible. Combining lots of activities with the brewery and distillery, it’s an interesting place for the whole family. Didn’t have time to eat when I first visited, but reports says the food is excellent. So is the beer.

Choose between the brewpub and the restaurant, the beers ranging from well crafted staples towards the more adventurous. Convenient for Oslo Airport, commuter train from Oslo.

I traveled from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen and went on a bus trip (no. 853) for about 15 minutes to Jessheim Stasjon and then walked for a few minutes to Sundbytunet. Same trip back to the airport, however, this time with bus no. 838. This is very convenient if you have a few hours between planes. And it is well worth the trip. They provide accommodations, as well. A restaurant in modern décor, called Smaken av Sundbytunet, serves home made food. I had a sappy elk steak, and Frau Eva a well-made Sculpin dish supported by confectionery cakes for our dessert. Four of their brews were served on a sample tray. Attentive and friendly service which also included a guided tour to the brew house with further set of samples. A pub is located beneath the restaurant. A large and comfortable patio situated just outside the entrance to the pub. Two of their beers are bottled and can be bought from their own store, Handleriet. A very nice place to visit, indeed (08.05.2012).

Nice brewpub in the basement of a nice restaurant all placed in a cozy version of a shopping center focusing mainly on craft products (baker, butcher, ice cream, chocolate, handcraft etc.). The pub has a nice outdoor section for the summer season and the brewery itself is placed fully visually for the pub guests. Four different taps for their own brew and one extra positive observation – no mainstream soda pop, only real fruit juice etc. The beer selection would always have to consist of a couple safe choices for the less adventure seeking locals, but the brew master has a real intension of brewing more interesting beers and will take the challenge of converting the local crew to enjoy good beers sooner or later. So look out for the hopefully not so rare treats in between local Pils and fruity Blonde. Well worth a visit when in the area. Did not try the food but it looks fantastic.

Veldig koselig og hyggelig sted. Moderne men allikevell passe personlig. Hyggelig og vennlig betjening. Og ikke minst ølet. Sjokkerende godt!

Modern brewpub placed in the ground floor of an old barn, first floor is occupied by a restaurant, so the food is well taken care of. Brew kettles placed in a corner behind the long bar. Cosy interior with an artificial fireplace, different seating group, to cater for small or larger groups. Well brewed beers, with service minded personel behind the counter.

Nice brewpub and restaurant in a cluster of buildings in the center of Jessheim. The style is modern and vaguely rustic, and works fairly well. Upstairs is a restaurant with good food and officially only two of the beers (but the waiter was willing to bring the others from downstairs). Good, friendly service. Good place. The restaurant is child-friendly, BTW.

17.01.2012. Very nice small brewpub in the middle of down town Jessheim. Very warm and nice place with four beers of their own. The barkeeper told me that they intend to change their beers every now and then. I think the brewer is on the right track and I really enjoied all of the four beers. I had a really nice stay theese hours at Sundbytunet.

Rustic in style, but not with the cluttered maximalism you usually see that those kinds of places, rather sparingly decorated. Old photos from the area on the walls, dark wood mixed with earthy colours makes it nice and cozy. The restaurant serves traditional (though with some more modern twists on some dishes) norwegian food with local ingredients. I had lutefisk with bacon and brunost wrapped in lefse, then deep fried, and it was as heavenly as it was wierd sounding. Not the most observant servers, as we were only 5 people in the room, and there were as many waiters, and I still waited for new drinks and such. The bar is much the same, though way more attentive and talkative servers. Very decent prices for their brews, which is all they serve along with akevitt and some whiskey. Food was in the mid to high price range. All in all, a nice brewpub/restaurant that I will revisit every so often as it’s pretty close to my home. Worth checking out, it’s only a short train ride from Oslo.
