72 'Holiday' places are weird to me. Matlock, the town itself, that's fine. But come to Matlock Bath with the ice-cream shops, amusement arcades and chippies and I think, Lord what have I done. I lived in Dawlish for 2 years, and the town was generally fine (although insane in high summer), but I avoided Dawlish Warrren like the plague. So it's a bit of a thrill to find a decent beer pub here. It's not amazing - only three of the 6 casks are available - but there's a few keg including beers from Salt and Floc. It's big and open-plan and the servers do well with the frantic nature of a Saturday afternoon. I would say that if you find yourself in Matlock Bath, by all means go. It's your best bet. Making a specialities here, I dunno. Depends on how you feel about ice-cream shops. |
64 Visited on Friday 5th May 2023 with six old RAF mates and 5 wives. Single roomed place with function\Wedding room upstairs. Four hand-pulls with local beers and ten keg lines. Friendly staff and expensive food. It's a basic joint surrounded by Fish & Chip outlets, never seen so many in such a small plaice. Four new rates for me in the pub, happy with that. |
76 Modern interior and seating outside so that you can admire the volume of fish and chip shops this town has! Good selection of local ales kept in good order. |
78 Very smart freehouse in touristy Matlock Bath. Clean and tidy inside, with around 10 real ales, including local offerings from Navigation and Thornbridge. A very pleasant place. |
