| TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | March 24, 2012 Very happening spot in the warehouse district of downtown Raleigh. Very busy on a Saturday night. But lets get things straight. This is a bbq joint. And I aint talkin bbq chicken or hamburgers or hotdogs or even that pulled pork shit they call bbq. This is the real stuff. Eastern NC love. But they do have a good beer list. They were having a Saison Fest with 3 saisons on tap, one of which was made in Raleigh. I won’t get into its imperfections here but they also had Hennepin which I enjoy. So if you want some really tasty NC bbq or fried chicken or some other delicious southern delicacy, and some solid tasty beer (they also had Founders All Day IPA on tap), check this place out. | | beerme31 (14), Apex, North Carolina | | December 2, 2011 My favorite BBQ in Raleigh. Great atmosphere, service, and of course great food. Beer selection is pretty good. Great value for lunch, dinner more expensive but worth it. | | emacgee (57), Carrboro, North Carolina | | November 16, 2011 First things first, this place is a barbecue place and it has awesome barbecue. Second things first, it has a sweet beer selection. I definitely don’t consider this a place to come for beer but for a restaurant it has a very eclectic and well balanced draft menu that surprised me with several smaller batch and harder to come by brews. Me gusta. | | PackPride (10), Raleigh, North Carolina | | October 31, 2011 If you’re looking for a place with the best BBQ in town, this place might be the place for you! They have a great wine selection, and the beer selection is decent, but not worth going for alone. | | JCB (120), Durham, North Carolina | | September 17, 2011 If you like wood-smoked BBQ and you haven’t been to The Pit, for shame! This is top shelf stuff, and it’s so tasty that even some other Raleigh joints (specifically the Raleigh Times) get their hog from Ed’s establishment. Very lively, spacious, and enjoyable atmosphere, and the beer menu was surprisingly varied. Good selection of locals like Aviator, Roth, Lonerider, et. al. on tap, but in addition they have a fine selection of big beers in bottles (Crooked Line, New Holland, Allagash, and more). Get some! | | donttreadonme (23), Chicago, Illinois | | July 25, 2010 Saw their ad in a hotel magazine for authentic but fancified Eatsern NC BBQ. I don’t care for that style, but it seemed well prepared and the corn fritter sides made up for it. Mid day, mid week visit so it was to be expected empty - but the beer selection while not huge featured NC heavy representation and some really solid out of state offerings. Service was friendly enough although inattentive. Highly recommend for the selection. | Sandor (5), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | March 23, 2010 I stopped at The Pit after arriving in Raleigh, NC. I was there for dinner around 6 PM on a Monday night, so there were only a few other customers. I saw the place on Throwdown with Bobby Flay so I was expecting great barbeque and the place lived up to expectations. The surprise was the beer selections. I thought I’d be washing down the BBQ with PBR, but they featured seasonal offerings from North Carolina and other craft breweries. The tap list wasn’t extensive, but varied and a nice selection. Their website beer list wasn’t current, but does give a good idea of what breweries are available. Drafts are available in 10 oz and 20 oz glasses. Great service utilizing a team concept to make sure you’re checked in on and have everything you need. I would definitely stop back here again.
One of the guys said The Pit is a sister restaurant to Raleigh Times. |
