Visited around 8.30/9pm on Monday 25/11/13.
Large Whole Foods with its own beer room to the rear, there are some six packs and craft beers dotted about the food hall but the beer room is way back practically on the next block!
Good all round choices from locals to US wide and European offerings about 300 or so I’d reckon on.
6 taps available for growler fills also.
The staff were both heplful and knowledgeable and came around the store with me searching for CDA’s!
Solid supermarket bottle shop/beer room, definately the best of the ones I’ve been to in NYC for both selection and price.

Has probably the largest beer selection of the Whole Foods stores I’ve visited in the States (SF, Portland and NYC). A large room dedicated only for beer, located outside the regular supermarket. Great selection and friendly service, but most of the beers can be found cheaper elsewhere

Best of the 3 Whole Foods I went to in NY. Nothing amazed me, but lots of good stuff.

The first thing I noticed about this place was how late they’re open.
Rex Banner: Open up Curly, this is a raid.
Moe: Raid? Curly? OK, but I don’t know what you expect to find in a friendly neighborhood pet shop...
Rex Banner: Answer me this: what kind of pet shop is full of rambunctious yahoos and playing hot jazz music at 1am?
Moe: Uhh, the best damn pet shop in town?
So they’re not open until 1 but they are open until at least 11 during the week. Remember, this is a grocery store, not a bar, though apparently if you buy bottles you can take them upstairs to the café area and open them. Or maybe you can’t but I did see several open Anchor Steam bottles on a table across from one of the food vendors. Downstairs in the main store area you’ll have a tough time finding the beer if you’re just wandering the aisles. There is only one small refrigerated section with a pretty lackluster selection. Across from that though are some bourbon barrel aged pickles and whiskey barrel sauerkraut. I got a kick out of that but naturally I didn’t buy any of it. Beyond the huge line to check out, next to the exit is a small stair case that goes down into a much larger beer area. There is a counter in the middle that fills growlers and all around the walls are tons of beers, half of which are kept cold. It looks like you can break six packs too. Pretty cool. I grabbed a couple of beers from an English brewery that I hadn’t heard about that looked interesting. The bottles advertise that they use wild yeast. I also got something with chicken feathers glued to the bottle. Hmm. Prices weren’t terrible on the beer, like they are for the food. So there’s that. Coupled with a good selection and the option for growlers this is definitely a worthy stop if you’re bottle shopping.

Great selection. A little pricey but it is Manhattan. Not much service had a few questions could find anyone to help. If you are looking for a beer distributed to this area you ll likely find it here.

My go-to bottle shop. They are open late and have a lot of great choices, at the lowest prices around. There are people who work here who know their stuff. They used to sell a lot of homebrew supplies, but discontinued that. It is sad to say but I think a lot of foks (myself included) have discovered that NYC apartments are not the best places for brewing beer. I could grumble a bit about the growler selection, which can be a mixed bag, but sometimes has some exciting surprises. Make no mistake, this place sets the standard for New York City bottle shops.
