Capital Ale House - Downtown

Big, but packed upstairs, with a smaller, but more spaced out downstairs. Staff was nice. Loved the downstairs. Good downtown stop.

Place downtown with a huge selection upstairs and a much smaller selection downstairs. Too bad because the downstairs is cooler. Upstairs has a little more character than a Denny's, but not much. Lots of beer on tap with focus on Virginia stuff. Lots of breweries I'd never had before. They do flights. Good stop in Richmond.

Great bar in downtown Richmond. It's a large place with an upstairs and downstairs, each have different tap lists. The upstairs has a much larger selection, so probably the place to go. Lots of seats, large bar, plenty of TVs, sports bar atmosphere. The tap list is quite extensive with lots of local beers. Food menu is also quite extensive, American pub food. My jagerschnitzel was quite good. As a traveler, a nice place to try a bunch of local beers. Worth a stop for sure.

Right downtown, this a cool spot. Very big draught list, with flights of 4 available for $10 - a great deal for a bar. Lots of seating at the bar, plus many tables, and a downstairs bar with a different (inferior) draught list. Service was attentive but unfriendly. Definitely worth a stop when in town.

Visited on a Wednesday night. Did not eat. Long narrow space. Coolers up front with mostly overpriced beers. Sat at the bar. Good service and selection.

Overall an OK place. Nice beer selection and great wings.

A short walk from Champion, I stopped here based purely on ratings. This is certainly an interesting space, with an old fashioned bar, a basement, a stage/concert area and multiple semi-enclosed dining rooms. Quite busy on a Thursday evening, but there were spaces at the bar. Bar food menu and a pretty extensive tap list. No half pours or flights served, which is a bummer. Tap list had a good local focus but was otherwise uninspiring overall. I was charged a different price for my beer than the printed list and nobody seemed to care about it. That was somewhat annoying. I like the space, but I honestly expected more based on reviews. I guess the fact that all of them are at least two years old should have been a top off.

Located in the busy city distric of Richmond, the venue is a nice refuge from the noise of the downtown. Spacious but cozy, the bar offers an impressive selection of beers on tap, a number of them quite decent and from Virginia. Very tasty food - I had a Down South burger and it tasted great. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, too. Average prices. Will gladly come back one day, just hoping that I will not have to listen to German folk songs ;-)
