What a great, classy restaurant. The brewery which is situated across the street, is no longer in business. It is now Ale Asylum (same beer, different name) but a great landmark in Madtown. I visited this place right after I turned 21, two years ago. It’s a very welcoming establishment, and I highly reccomend it. Update: These guys are closed now for a long time! Damn! What a waste of a building.

I went here on a friday night over easter, so not much of a crowd. Staff seemed friendly enough. I had 2 bartenders ask me what I wanted in under a minute, and another try to help me while my drinks were being poured. Waitresses were roaming around helping as well. This place was pretty dirty, and the people drinking were pretty rough looking. Talks about parole officer this, and selling drugs that. Not a big deal, but I wouldn’t stick around too late into the night. I had a leines big eddy impy stout, which was nice to have on tap. They had some ale asylum as well, goose island matilda, and a few others. We didn’t grab on food. Overall it was decent, but I wouldn’t ever go again unless they had something I really wanted to try on tap.

WinTour 2008. Visited for lunch and beers on a lazy Saturday afternoon. No longer a brewery, not that it matters because their old brews are still served. Service noticed right away that we were there for the beer and made up a nice list for us, which was very helpful. She was very nice and attentive. The place itself was a bit rough around the edges, and there was an interesting anti-war discourse going on on the bathroom stall walls, but all in all I would definately go back. Parking would be a bitch on a busy day.

So this isn’t even a brewery anymore. The brewers cutoff and formed Ale Asylum and left this place with a brewing company name but a taphouse selection. The inside reminds me of a Fox & Hound, well lit, clean, shiny, polished, but too clean to be a real drinking establishment. The beer selection, though, was rock solid. Big Eddy Imperial Stout anchored the beer board that also features two Ale Asylum taps, a couple of hop bombs and a couple more high gravity and seasonal selections. They definitely know the good stuff to have on tap, but the atmosphere isn’t exactly the best. Too big, too artificial, too polished, too much of a family restaurant feel, honestly.

I went to Angelic when it was a brewpub, and I can see why they chose to go in a different direction. There just wasn’t any passion behind the beers, and I think the current selection of locals (Ale Asylum and Lake Louie represented) works better. The food and service were decent, but I found it to be over-priced.

Not a bad tap selection. They had 10 or so locals on tap. So i was able to find something I had not had. The pizza was decent and they had Live Music on a Tuesday Night. Service was good, they gave me a couple of tasters before I asked .

While it does suck that they’ve stopped brewing, I thought I’d refute the review immediately below this. I stopped by Angelic on August 11, and at that point they had: 3 Ale Asylum, 2 Tyranena, 2 New Glarus, and a few other local micros on tap. Yes, they had Stella and at least a couple other taps that weren’t very impressive, but it’s NOWHERE near as bad as what was stated below.

As bad as it gets. Despite the descriptions below, these guys carry almost no micros anymore. It is that Bass, Guinness, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams taps. Disgusting stuff. They DO NOT carry Ale Asylum taps any longer. The only true Micro I saw was Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA. State Street Brats around the corner had four Ale Asylum beers on tap. Don’t waste your time here when you have places like the Come Back In around.

I was pleasantly surprised with this bar. They had most of the Ale Asylum beers on tap, as well as a couple of New Glarus, Capital, and other taps. We visited in the middle of the day, and it was quite empty. The manager was extremely nice, and gave us a sampler of pretty much everything on tap even though they usually don’t do a sampler. He knew a lot about all of the beers on tap. It’s a nice place to stop by for a beer.

They are no longer brewing but they do now carry many of Ale Asylum’s offerings on tap. In addition there was Capital Winter Skal, Sierra Nevada Celebration and a few others. Overall, not a bad set of choices.

The interior felt like they were trying a little too hard for the pub feel and whiffed. I don’t know if it just because they used to brew and no longer do, but now it feels like a standard bar. Avoid it on the weekends unless you want to deal with hordes of frat boys.
