80 /100 The Fork and Tap (Bar) 51 BUCKINGHAM STREET Really fun pub in Arrowtown outside Queenstown. Quaint and cozy restaurant in an historic building in Arrowtown nicely preserved Main Street. Great, nicely curated beer selection and helpful staff. Excellent sandwiches! Visited with Tim, Chelsea, and Jack in 2019. |
58 /100 Bendix Stables (Bar) 28 BUCKINGHAM STREET Off the main street. Reasonably selection of local Queenstown beers. Large venue with a grassy area, food was available and was reasonably priced and good quality. In the high main tourist season this will be a busy venue. |
78 /100 The Fork and Tap (Bar) 51 BUCKINGHAM STREET Perfectly good craft beer bar with something like 20 lines, all from New Zealand and from a wide range of breweries. No real standouts (nothing about 6.5%, because this is New Zealand after all) but what they had was done well for the style.
Dinging it a point on ambiance because had I needed to do anything in the bathroom that didn't involve standing up, I didn't see an alternative to breaking into the ladies' bathroom or going in the woods out back. It was otherwise fine - just if you have to poop, do it elsewhere before you come. |
68 /100 Arrowtown Wine Store (Beer Store) 21 RAMSHAW LANE A wine store, but also a nice selection of beer (loads of Garage project) and some growler taps. Service was friendly though at first I didn't understand the lady, hahaha. Not the best, but pretty good if you want quality beer around this area. (I couldn't find any info on opening hours.) |
76 /100 The Fork and Tap (Bar) 51 BUCKINGHAM STREET 2016-05-17. Classy but cozy, stone walls, comfy booths. Unexpectedly impressive tap list has a wide range of NZ craft beers, including a one-off house beer Dan’s IPA that might have been the best of the day! Wide range but not all of top quality though - I assume that’s the fault of the beers and not the pub but don’t know the beers enough to say. It was a bit chilly sitting by the door. Speaking of chilly, the gents only has urinals, and the other toilet is essentially outside! Cold buns. :) Food was pretty good, we shared a soup and a sandwich included as part of our Lord of the Rings Tour. Lovely spot, how worthy it is for a detour will depend on what’s on tap that day I expect, but we quite enjoyed our visit. |
80 /100 The Fork and Tap (Bar) 51 BUCKINGHAM STREET This place was a seriously good find. At the end of Arrowtown’s main street on a corner with a lovely outside area almost backing on to the river. Very good kids play area out the back too. Front bar is all old wood and would be awesome in cold weather. I think they had 17 taps when I was there, with the least adventurous taps being Monteiths or Moa I think. Had 8 Wired, Twisted Hop, Altitude, Funk Estate and a bunch of other breweries on. Three handpumps. Really good food too, well above the usual pub standard. Lovely folks, and a lot more laid-back than Queenstown. Would have to be the best pub in the Queenstown/ski fields area. Well recommended. |
