“On top of a hill offering some fine views of the Lake District park to its north-west, this fine country pub is quite small on the inside where the bar is, but another room for dining offers up a bit of extra space. Given the heatwaves happening in June 2018 most people were drinking on both of my visit here, but food does play a big part in the success of the pub, and it's also a hotel with its own reception entrance. It's a very quiet area, rural with no other buildings around so you can see why people would want to stay here, especially as the building has a lovely decor inside. Beer lovers will get to enjoy practically the full regular Barngates range, as it's on offer here in both cask and keg and beer paddles are also available covering both options. There's plenty of outdoor seating in three different areas in front of the pub, which is covered, its side, and on tables placed next to a fenced field on the other side of the small lanes which are at a crossroads here. It's these tables that offer the best views.“

“Lovely wee pub in the lake district, if a little awkward to get to. Nice decor/ambience and really good food. Most importantly a good selection of their own range of house beers. Unfortunately I was driving but am assured by my brother that they are excellent beers.“

“The home of the Barngates Brewery, five of the core range of seven beers are always on tap. Stunning views over the Lake District. Charming interior. Food is truly outstanding: had the best meal of my life here. Unfortunately it wasn’t cheap. Meal for two was £85. You need to book well in advance. Had the BarngateTag Lag followed by the Cracker Ale, both excellent.“
