| 62 /100 Pyl G&R (Beer Store) ALEXANDER FARNESELAAN 61 “Family-owned chain of two small bottle shops, from the people who recently started the Domein Reynaert project (see breweries). Being from the region, I felt obliged to visit this place if only to find these Reynaert beers. Turns out they greatly value selling local beers and indeed, some other commissioned beers from around the Beveren region were on sale here, amidst fairly classic Belgians; in all, their range is more or less comparable with Van Eetvelde in Lokeren or Fontana in Sint-Niklaas, but the shop is smaller. Very friendly lady and I go back here once a year or so, or if anything new happens in the Beveren region, but that is where I live, and for people coming from further away this is very clearly not worth a detour as such.“ |
| 58 /100 Plato (Bar) GROTE MARKT 7 “In terms of selection, this is likely the largest beer pub in the Waasland region, located at the Beveren market square. Large, modern pub attracting mostly youngsters, so expect a loud and crowded atmosphere at night, with loud music playing. More sedate on a Sunday afternoon. Staff is friendly but usually consists of other youngsters, without any knowledge of beer whatsoever. Beer selection is very cliché for now but seems to be under expansion lately, with a few regional beers being promoted every now and then (at this moment, for example, Paenhuys’ Va’Snee is available, made for the local Zythos club). Only worth a visit if you happen to be in the neighborhood and are interested in having some classic Belgian ales from the more established breweries.“ |

But this one was a big dissapointment, mostly of the drinks are soda, and the beers are the regulars. Also lots of dust and spiderwebs at the bottles. Won’t get back there soon. The guy was ok, but a to short conversation, so can’t really give a real score... But at least, the prices are ok.“ |
