“Visited February 2024. More of a kiosk than a shop; it was rather tricky to find so I'll start by giving directions! From the main entrance to Liverpool Street station, go down the steps to the shopping plaza one floor below ground level. Head diagonally left towards the front of WH Smiths, and then turn right alongside a relatively narrow arcade up the side of the tracks. Savanna is a little way down there on the right. Having eventually found it, I wasn't sure it was worth the effort of the many loops of the station I'd put into finding it (despite the incredibly friendly and chatty chap running it). There were about 10-12 different beers there - entirely South African apart from Windhoek from Namibia (which was a new country tick for me). The South African ones all appeared to be from their big national lager brews, although it did include some of their more minor brands so there may be a few new ticks here. Beer aside, they stocked quite a lot of South African wine and dried/cured meats, and a few other bits and bobs. Overall then definitely not worth going out of your way beerwise, but worth sticking your head in if you've got a few minutes to kill whilst waiting for a train.“

“Been here quite a few times in the past including when I used to work in the area, last visit was March 2023 during their Spring beer fest. Nice old building right next to the railway station, very nice interior with decorative high ceiling and lots of tables, bar as you enter at back with a smaller bar and seating area upstairs. Good service, and remember the cask used to be in pretty good nick and same for this last visit. Not a destination but worth stopping by if in the area.“

“Situated at the station, they were renovating the place while vistiting. But it is a very nice decorated place. Good selections on tap and a few bottles. Visit friday morning, still quite busy.“

“Just across Liverpool Street St. Very charming old style boozer with private booths and seating upstairs. We spend a couple of hours here, staff was very friendly and cask ales seemed in a good condition. Ok range of micro and macro, local and global. Prices on the higher side no wonders given the location. Nice spot waiting for your train.“

“A well-kept, classic Youngs pub on the other side of Liverpool Street Station. Six cask ales, my Youngs London Special was in perfect condition. Dark wood and brick interiors, quite cozy. Friendly service. Not so many of these traditional Youngs pubs still left in London. (Visited with Finn 15.11.2021).“

“A unusual pub in that they don't have any of the usual top brand names on the taps, like Guinness, Carlberg, Stella etc.. Instead they had German, Austrian & USA offerings. Also a few taps of British real ale from unusual smaller breweries. They also have a dining room on the 1st floor, and deluxe bedrooms upstairs. It's a 2 minute walk to Liverpool Street tube & main line station.“

“Perfectly adequate boozer, a bit rugger-bugger, but I did find a tick here. Convenient for the station, but you're better off going to your nearest JDW instead for almost everything apart from the tellies.“

“Visited mid-afternoon on Friday 7th Dec 2018. Full with Christmas party goers and shoppers, some space and spare seats around. Best cask selection I have seen in a Nicholson's pub, ever. Four hand-pulls from Siren and four others, although I had to take back one of my beers; no problem though, changed it without complaint or hassle. Didn't go upstairs, but liked the vibe of the ground floor room, high ceiling, olde worlde decor. Better option that being quashed in Hamilton Hall just down the road during busy times.“

“Used this place a few times as it's right inside/outside Liverpool Street Station and I am sometimes using the underground in the area. Always seems busy, very busy on my latest visit (Friday afternoon on 7th Dec 2018). Two floors in this high ceiling-ed square roomed pub with a large smoking/outside drinking patio, some more inter-mate seating along a small side within the place facing the station. Decent selection of cask ales, usual keg and bottle options you'd expect in a London Wetherspoon pub. Staff efficient, and they need to be, friendly enough considering the flowing customer base. never had food here, just a quick cheap pint before moving on. Decor is impressive and I actually quite like the place.“

“Almost opposite the main Bishopsgate entrance to Liverpool Street station. Have visited a couple of times now and it's alright. Busy both times, but service pretty good. Limited beer range availability (nothing interesting from Youngs) but does seem to be a regular outlet for Dorking brewery as both times I visited (some months apart) I had one of theirs. Expensive - over £5 a pint. Will visit again I'm sure, so long as they keep having at least something interesting on cask, as often use this station.“

“My last stop in London. Was draged here by Tom. Nice spacious place, but quite typical modern pub. Had my London Porter in London here, unfortunately from bottle. But had best ever Fullers ESB here on cask! Since it's quite close to Liverpool station might be worth to visit again in future, but it's not a tickers paradise.“

“I don't know who entered this onto RB (wasn't me). But thought I'd check it out as close to Liverpool St station. Has a modern, industrial feel reminiscent of a Tapped but without the range of beers. Those available (about 8 taps) are from mainstream craft brewers with meantime featuring heavily plus a small number of others. Expensive. Service was fine. Pizza's looked good but didn't eat. If I go back it'll be to eat, and not particularly somewhere to go to seek out the beers.“

“Situated inside Liverpool Street Station, this specialist South African shop is an good source for South African beers and ciders along with occasional beers from Namibia and more local breweries (eg Wimbledon). I often pop in en-route to my train home and they will generally have something new in each week and generally about 20 South African brews at any one time. Staff are always polite and friendly. I've been to a few South African stores in uk before and not seen a better range than this. Great range of wines and meats too.“

“A decent pub, generally always busy, with old fashioned booths and upstairs seating adding to the ambiance of the place. Beer range is solid with some surprises - maybe not new brewers but a couple of new beers generally always available. Over the years have visited a number of times when in vicinity of Liverpool Street station and have always enjoyed my time there.“

Only my second visit but think it'll be a good alternative to places I normally visit for a pre train beer!“

“Situated a 2 minute walk from Liverpool Street station. Not as good a pub as it was a few years ago when it was a destination Good Beer Guide place to visit. Beer range whilst similar in tap quantity has lost some of its range broadness and is now dominated by national breweries with only 2 or 3 regionals to choose from. Service is functional at best. Atmosphere is ok apart from when mobbed after 5pm.“

“Visited on 6th May 2017. Corner Nicholsons pub just over the road from Liverpool St station. It’s got some lovely dark wood panelling inside, it’s quite small, long and narrow with seating crammed in. It was busy with a group of Aussies seemingly intent at yawping loudly at each other near to us. It’s got a decent mix of cask and keg beers, quality and service good. Prices OK. There is a dining area upstairs but only stayed for a swift drink. OK“

“Nicholson’s corner pub begging for more drinking space given it’s extremely popular, although this is a given as it’s just opposite the Bishopgate entrance to Liverpool Street Station. The ground floor with its bar against its inner wall is traditional in design and is a decent space for a drink at a quiet time, but expect it to be full of suits by late afternoon on a weekday, and some do spill out into the street although I don’t think there’s an official area for this. The usual Nicholson’s selection of drinks apply with ample cask to choose from, and although I didn’t get there I believe the upstairs is for dining.“

“At the far end of a narrow alleyway road, at the back of the police station opposite Liverpool Street Station, this is a small but pleasant Nicholson’s pub serving the current range from this brewer including its own Pale ale made by St Austell. I first ventured in here around 2003, and ended up standing in the street with my pint, which many do here, and saw the biggest rat I’ve ever seen scurrying between buildings. Having been back recently not much has changed, although the rat wasn’t spotted this time.“

“Opposite the Bishopsgate entrance to Liverpool Street station, this heavily wooden beamed pub is accessed through its own small entrance hall and is set slightly inside the building. There’s something of an olde world atmosphere in here, but it can feel synthetic at the same time. The ales were all Youngs on my visit, and given it offered nothing new to me it was disappointing in that respect.“

“Along Devonshire row, just a short walk south of Liverpool Street station on Bishiopsgate, this pub is traditional in design, but with a few modern touches and a durability about its furniture given the very changing clientele in here. Many of these are suits from the endless office blocks around this area, but that’s no different to most pubs in the vicinity. The ale selection is perhaps little better than a lot of the others though with several hand pumps occupying the middle ground between some keg ales and lagers. It’s a great place to people watch when the masses are commuting home, with a constant unidirectional flow of office workers passing the large front windows on their way to the station.“

“Just behind the Hamilton Hall Wetherspoon on Bishopgate, this too has an impressive interior with high ceilings and decor to compliment your drink - that is if you can get to the bar as this place was rammed with most people standing up in the large space between the doors in the front corner and the bar against its rear wall. The selection isn’t that good once you get there, with some regular cask and keg options you’ve probably seen many times before.“

“Facing the elevated walkway above the end of the platforms and roof of Liverpool Street station, this modern corner pub in a modern building has a pseudo traditional look - chainlike and arguably soulless. This wouldn’t matter if the beer selection was any good, but there were just a couple of cask ales, a couple of kegs and some very well-known bottles to choose from - nothing new for me. Its best asset is probably the outdoor area facing the aforementioned open space at the end of the railway station.“

“Just around the corner from the front of Liverpool Street station and the road that gives it its name, this is a tight-fighting Nicholsons pub given it’s in a much smaller building than you normally associate with this chain, but is no less busy. There’s an ’L’ shape just behind the entrance with a full selection of the usual ales from their rotating list“

“A block west from the Liverpool Street tube station, this is a pseudo-German styled beer hall pub, with the beer hall in the lower section and the service area against the back will up a small set of stairs from ground level. The main problems with the place are the limited selection as it’s by no means exciting German beers, the high cost, and the fact it lacks authenticity given it seems they hired IKEA to create their look! I guess it does offer something slightly different to the many of the other pubs around here though.“

“Very busy JDW at Liverpool St station. Fairly decent range of beers complimented by an expanding bottle range. Service pretty good considering its popularity. Has a quieter upstairs seated area. A good stopping off point for the station.“

“Stopped off here en route from Shoreditch back to Liverpool St Station. Not sure what to expect as the last review was from 2014. It strikes me as the sort of place I’d rather not be, but can make the most of while here. The cask selection was Young’s-centric (hell, even in Wells pubs in Bedford you often get Wells, Young’s and Courage), including their krafty keg London IPA (4.5%). I opted for a bottle of Shoreditch Blonde, which was one of the few interesting bottles they had. Nothing wrong with the service.“

“Fairly busy as it was approaching lunch time on a week day, but we found a corner near the bar to stand. Didn’t want to go upstairs, which has tons more space, as we wanted quick access to those bar. Lovely interior, Nicholson’s know how to make a bar look nice. I think there were 6 hand-pull beers, and 5 of them were ticks, so that’s pretty good going. Staff were polite and sufficiently efficient. If I’m passing through Liverpool Street again, this is the direction i’ll run to for some swift halves.“

“Flying visit, literally had less than half an hour between trains, so darted out of the station, across the road, grabbed a swift half, and then ran back to the awaiting train. Staff was efficient enough, and served with a friendly smile. Interior is a classic dark wood, sophisticated, English public house, lovely. Beer was in good condition. I think there was another pub nearby, that we didn’t have time to pop into, and I’m 100% sure we chose the better one.“

“5 min walk from Liverpool street station. There are a lot of others also in this area. and can not see a big reason to choose this infront of others. Quite nice and traditional English pub. As many others quite crowded on a friday evening. Often a lot of post-work customers. Decent range of cask and quite good looking pub.“

“Would score this place higher if it was a food based website. As it is I like a faux German beer keller but it is pricey. More mainstream German beers. For fans of schitzels, wurst and steins rather than beer ticking.“

“The Bull is the pub part. Upstairs is The Hide which is a gastrobub. A pretty pricey place, but I was slightly pissed already so was charmed by the bright shiny decor and smashing beers (The Kernel and London Fields are what I sampled). Very busy busy and full of office wokes, but felt lively as opposed to rammes. Certainly a place to drop in to see what’s on and fpr me preferable to the Spoons and Nicholson’s which are the main options around here.“

Had to join a scrum in order to choose from a couple of ng guest beers (went for a Marston’s if I remember correctly. Not great - guess it’s just busy due to its location. Very posh loos in the adjoining hotel though.“

“Visited on 22nd Feb 2014. It’s a two level Spoons on the upper concourse at Liverpool St station. The bar is large and in the corner of the downstairs area. It’s really popular with rail travellers and often struggle to get a seat. The decor is pretty decent with ornate, high ceilings. Range of cask beer is decent enough plus all the usual Spoons offerings. Decent enough Spoons in a handy location“

“Very close to Liverpool St, this pub has recently stocked the likes of Kernel, Bronx and other brewers as part of their IPA fest and thus deserves a place on the map I think. It’s a decent pub inside, homely feeling. However the atmosphere is somewhat wrecked by the usual city types bellowing at each other and the rather loud music. The service was a little on the slow side as people pay for a pint with a debit card (tossers). The beers were fine that I tried but I wouldn’t come in unless I knew there was something I wanted.“

“Easy to find. Located almost at Liverpool Street Station. If you walk out towards Bishopsgate it is just on the right side when you get out. Nice breakfast! Just been there in the morning. Relaxed and good service. Traditional nice English pub with an unusual high ceiling. 5 different cask and 4 different keg on my visit. Also some interesting bottles. “

“Ventured in here once with a couple of mates to watch one of England’s group games in the 2006 World Cup during a curry night. Absolutely packed but still managed to get food and drink in good time. Don’t remember it too well other than the grandeur of the place - it looked good, although judging by its recent pictures it has definitely had a makeover since I was in here.“

“Hamilton Hall has a magnificent ceiling in what was without doubt once a magnificent room - the ballroom of the Great Eastern Railway hotel at Liverpool Street station. Unfortunately we visited on a Thursday evening and it was very noisy and crowded with nowhere to sit and few places to stand. The crowd seemed an odd mix until I remembered that from here the only way is Essex. At least the service was quick and attentive when we finally made it to the bar. We ordered from the taps we could see so I can’t really comment on what the full range of beers was like. (Visited 26 March 2015).“

“My friend told me this was the place to go in this area for real ale in the 80s. So we popped in for old times sake and expecting only to see Youngs beers. Pleasantly surprised to see some well kept London Fields beers on. Service was poor, not the fault of the barmaid, she needed some help! I’ll probably stick my head round the door next time I’m passing.“

“Much more relaxed than the hubbub of the ’Spoons at the station. 4 ales on and in good nick. Had a breakfast which was good for £5. Worth popping in if at Liverpool St.“
