“Visited in April 2019. The beers are rather mediocre (which means they are at least drinkable) but the restaurant itself is really likeable. Spacious, with warm lighting, centrally located and definitely very popular. Sort of an inclusive, family-oriented atmosphere that simultaneously caters for scores of daredevils seeking cultural late evening intoxication in a nice surrounding. Good pork knuckle, good service, beautiful dish collecting lady (always worth pointing out). A fun place to spend an evening or two, if you don't mind the beer.“

“Visited in April 2019. Went there by bus, which I normally avoid, yet since Chemnitz is not exactly known for an abundance of beery places, it seemed like a worthwhile trip. Yet it wasn't. Popular but rather soulless German bierstube with a rather kitschy interior, rather disinterested service, rather mediocre food and surprisingly disappointing beer. Especially the latter pales when compared with the Ritterguts brand that is contract brewed at this place. The mediocre Classic Pils was their best offering, with some of the rest being literally drainpours. Not impressed.“

“Nice pub in the main square, with some of own beer, but not too much beer selection. Beers is very good and creative. Traditional saxon disco in the cellar. A good place to visit!“

“Located in the heart of Chemnitz, this Restaurant has a nice patio. Wooden interieur and modern elements. About 8 beers on tap (mainly Krusovice and Budweiser) and one saisonal. Flight availabel as well as small size glases. Some bottles as well. East-european kitchen. Worth a visit.“

“Nice place. Though located in the outskirts, it definitely worth of your visit - for sure best beer in town. All local beers are in great form - you get 6 on tap + 2 in bottles. All the light ones were my favorites along with fantastic Rot.“

“Loved the place, hated the beers. Out of 4 their beers, only dunkel was barely drinkable. Local bock was a major disaster...“

Fristo (Beer Store)
ZWICKAUER STRAßE 444
“A typical drinks shop and as such a good place to start if you are interested in beers from Saxony. This place sells beers from Chemnitz breweries, including the small ones such as Reichenbrand, but also some beers from small brewers in the Erzgebirge region, such as Specht. Of course, they also have beers from the majors like Braustolz, Einsiedler, and Freiberger.“

“Well worth the trek from the city centre. In August 2012 there were 5 beers on tap. Good quality beers and food (the Lammhaxe at 9 euros was amazingly good) "Red Sun" at 3.4% was a Sommerbier, no fizz, mid brown, unfiltered. Helles 4.2% - tiny bubbles gave it a creamy head, was a good thirst quencher with a hint of hops. Classic Pilsener 4.8% filtered fizzy and fairly hoppy Kellerbier 4.8% surprisingly fizzy unfiltered, hoppy and fruity. Dunkles - more a proper schwarzbier, heavy, almost black and rich! Finally I could not resist a bottle of "Premium" 5.5% very hoppy, lively when poured but hardly any gas when drinking it, delicious.“

Schalom Restaurant (Restaurant)
CAROLASTRASSE 5
“A Jewish restaurant near the main station which has Einsiedel Pils on draught, which is ok. But what caught my eye was their bottled SIMCHA, a "kosher pils" brewed specially for this restaurant by Hartmannsdorf brewery. Is 4.9% abv but without meaning to sound disrespectful found it quite commercial! Unfortunately the Schwarzbier is now bottled, it was draught about ten years ago - the staff were amazed when I pointed this out!“

“Beers pretty non-descript, usual trait - brew it bland so not to offend anyone! And no excuses for a brewery in Saxony not to have a Schwarzbier!“

“I’ve been here several times and its always worth a visit. Very good food for good prices and great beers, although they only have 2 different beers at one time. Service is very friendly. Weekends are very crowded, but its still enjoyable there. Love to be there.“

“I can only rate the outside Biergarten, in the shadow of Chemnitz’s grimy Rathaus. Generally a pleasant atmosphere, though, and the beers are at least worth rating. I wouldn’t mind taking the tour of the brewery, though, as it would be the only way to sample the Zwickel, if it weren’t for the price tag. Food is freshly made and good, pleasant service. Even let you tap your own beer. They offer a beer soup and one of my favorites, Treberbrot mit Schmalz.“
