| 72 /100 Sun Inn (Bar) 10 HIGH ST “Three Tuns-owned pub in downtown Clun, built in the 15th century with plenty of exposed beams and a general old school pub feel. The eagle-eyed may spot a set of three “Molly Lane signal box” hand pumps behind the bar which are reputed to come from the Cock in Fleet Street, where Charles Dickens did his apprenticeship, so chances are he probably pulled a pint or two from them. Beer range understandably is focussed on Three Tuns with 5 of their beers available. Lots of seating along the side of the pub and round the back. Nice pleasant place to enjoy a pint after exploring the walks nearby, like we did.“ |
| 76 /100 THE SQUARE “Visited here after following the 6-mile Walking With Offa Walk 7 up to the Iron Age hill fort at Bury Ditches. Can't quite understand why I've not been before but here I am. Clun is a typical South Shropshire village, largely un-changed, vehemently independent with centuries old customs still being followed. Such as the annual Green Man festival which the owners have had involvement organising each year. Historically its a celebration of the victory of spring over winter, personified in the battle between the Green Man and the Ice Queen on Clun's ancient bridge, though now encompasses a much wider spectrum of bands and performers. Expect lots of morris dancers and folk musicians in front of the White Horse throughout the weekend. The pub itself is a quaint old place, built in 1780 with low beams and old school pub set up. The familiar warmth of the bar greets you on entry, with a tantalising line-up of the pub's own beers taking pride of place, alongside a box cider from Longmynd cider co nearby. Bottles also available to takeout at very reasonable prices. Nice place.“ |
| 76 /100 THE SQUARE “A lovely old freehouse, brewpub even, in the very pretty village of Clun. This seemed to be filled mainly with locals with one or two tourists generally of the hillwalking variety. Service is friendly and efficient. Four of Clun’s own beers on cask plus a couple of local guest beers. Then local cider and fairly local perry too. Three Clun beers available in bottle too. The food is not overly sophisticated but they are proud of the provenance of their local suppliers and so they should be. Overall, a must visit if you are passing within 20 miles.“ |
| 74 /100 THE SQUARE “Welcoming and comfortable old Coaching Inn in the centre of Clun with its own tiny brewery and decent range of beers. Calm and relaxed, the food looked to be very popular. Set in great surroundings with beautiful walks nearby, there is also a patio area and secluded garden. A must if nearby.“ |
