54 /100 High Park Tavern (Bar) 84 MARLBOROUGH ROAD A bit out of the way but a lovely detached building in a quiet area, with bay windows that let you take in the placidity of the world outside - or just sit outside, there's a large terrace too. Friendly staff and locals, happy to provide info on other pubs in town. 2 of the 3 real ale taps were on, and 1 was a tick, despite being a large nationally-distributed brewer. Alas not in particularly good form. Pretty standard national keg fare accompanies. We only came this far east as we were hoping for a local tick in the Appley Manor Hotel, but that was a total wasted diversion, so it's probably not worth heading all the way here unless you're a completist (or have loads of street ticks to dispatch). Not a bad locals pub, though, just not a ticker haven. |
