“Nice layout, you enter from the car park through two sets of partially covered outdoor tables, one section of which is non-smoking. You read that correctly. NON SMOKING! In Europe. Oh sorry, I mean Englad. Inside is mainly a restaurant, the serving bar is way in the back and there are a handful of bar tables. Small but interesting selection was mostly Charlie Wells. Kitchen sadly was closed for maintenance when I stopped by for lunch. I shall return.“

“Nice location right on the main canal, and right next to The Maltings. Handful of tables face the canal so you can watch the canalboats go by. Additional tables out front. Inside has a large room facing the canal with a serving bar. Four real ales on offer. decent service. Worth a look.“

“Stopped in for dinner with Holy. Food was decent, service was good. Very long bar had mostly Greene King stuff which was pretty uninteresting. Main room was more atmospheric that the shopfront-like front rooms.“

“This was the only place (of ten that I visited) in Ely that had a significant amount of craft beer, as well as cider, perry and a mead (which was out). friendly service. Some beers are poured from gravity casks, which was great. Nice variety of styles too, something that was lacking at other places in town. The front half of this place has pub tables, and even the upper bar area sort of looks like a small pub if you squint a bit. It's just a good step up from being a growler fill station.“

“Small place a few blocks from the center. Nine handpulls on at the front bar, just two of which were Greene King, and there are some kegs at the second bar around the corner. Very quiet. Friendly service.“

“Very large place, entry via the main street or an alley. Very long bar, but not a very exciting selection. Couple of draft ciders hiding in back of the bar. Food was generic pub grub. Good service.“

“Right across from the Minster. More or less traditional bar and front room, with tables in the back room for eating. Very hung over youngster at the bar. Not a very interesting selection, one Brewdog, one Neck Oil that seems to be everywhere.“

“Located vis-a-vis Townhouse (which is more of a ticker's pub), you can still find a few cask ales here (I had Brains Original Cask Bitter, which I had rated previously) and some kegs, also a decent food menu. I came back in the evening, there had been a change of staff, and the surly barmaid looked like I was trying to torment her when I asked for a gin & tonic, with Tanqueray gin (which I had to point out for her).“

“Commercial description: "The Royal Standard started as a one room public house in the 15th Century and is the oldest building on Ely’s Fore Hill. The building has been extended over the years and is now one of Ely’s most popular dining and meeting places, attracting both the local residents and visitors. Our extensive food menu is focused on fresh and local as well as seafood and steak, with a good selection of traditional pub food thrown into the mix. An eclectic 60 bottle wine list compliments the varied menu and you can also expect to find well kept real ales, cocktails and a great range of premium spirits. Just as important, we are proud of the service we give and the atmosphere we create!" Decent looking pub, close to Ely's more renowned pubs, so it won't be a detour to pop in here to see if they have a tick or two for you. 6 cask handpumps and a number of kegs available. They also offer accommodation.“

“This is a nice looking pub you inevitably stumble into, rather than search out, as it is located close to the impressive Ely Cathedral. Several cask ales on, and a decent number of kegs. The cask ale I had, Salem Ernest, was not in perfect nick, but this might have been a coincidence. They have a full food menu, but I did not eat. As the Minster Tavern is located quite near Ely's more renowned pubs, it is not a detour to pop in here to see if they have a tick or two for you.“

“City centre pub, I visited twice on a Tuesday. Some people there around lunchtime, for a long time in the evening I was the sole guest, and they started turning off the lights at 22:10. Too warm in the room, even on a chilly day. Decent cask ales and some kegs. Several new ticks for me.“

“Quaint micropub in a central location. There is only a small counter here, all beers are taken from the backroom. The one I had was exceedingly flat and warm, even for England. Chalkboard lists beers, ciders and meads, but doesn't say which ones are cask and which ones are kegs.“

“Town centre pub with quite a large footprint. Quite foody throughout, seems to be its raison d'etre. The outside patio area is a pleasant place to be. Certainly not a beer destination but it's okay for a visit.“

“Friendly, comfortable pub just a short walk from the Ely Market area. Not really a Micro Pub, rather on the large side and some gassed keg but otherwise it certainly has the feel and buzz of that style. You order your choices and there is table service, great stuff. A dozen tap beers of one type or another, not easy to tell whether it is cask or keg till you receive the beer. Well worth visiting and a great combination with 3at3 Cafe.“

“This is a friendly little cafe just off the centre of town, just a 5 minute walk from the market, it's off in a little alleyway but signed by an A Board. Little room inside but the terrace area is very pleasant, overlooking fields. It looks like an old cottage that has been converted. 6 Keg lines in use on our visit, some from local breweries, some a little confusing where the real brewer needs to be worked out. There is also shelves full of local bottled beers for sale and a fridge of interesting canned beers for sale or to be consumed at the cafe. The food is really very good. Well worth a visit.“

“Great place, does not look like pub :) very cosy and relaxing. About 10 of local cask and keg beer on tap plus selection of bottles. Next time in Ely I'll be visiting Drayman’s Son again.“

“Nice pub, less so for the beer than for the place itself and what they offer the local area with regular live music, quiz nights, an annual beer festival and other events. Quite spacious inside and has a nice walled courtyard for sunny days and summer nights. Would certainly visit again when in Ely.“

“Great place run by super friendly people. Cracking range of bottles/cans to drink in or take out with a strong local presence along with beers from further afield. Visited during the Ely Winter Beer Festival and will revisit soon as it's worth coming to Ely for again to come here, though shame it closes at 6pm during the week as it has a lovely patio terrace which would be a great spot to relax on a summers evening. But Saturday it's open 9-8. Looking forward to going back and spending longer here.“

“Cracking micropub, with a warm welcome, friendly locals, fantastic atmosphere and small but carefully selected tap and bottle list. Visited during the Ely Winter Beer Festival and hope to revisit soon as it's worth coming to Ely for again in its own right!“

“Visited on 4th June 2017. Micropub about 10 mins walk from the station. It’s a large single room over 2 levels, lots of old railway memorabilia and antique tat all over the place, A couple of keg beers plus local cask beer on tap. Service is friendly, prices good and beer quality good. Liked this place“

There’s also a lot of local bottles on the shelves. Service was good, prices decent and beer quality good. Really liked this place.“

3 THREE CUPS WALK
“August 2017 update: this place has certainly ramped things up a notch or three. Four keg taps (Cloudwater x2, Three Blind Mice, Bakers Dozen on my visit, and oddly three were saisons). Quite a few craft cans from the likes of Magic Rock and Alphabet. Even the bottle selection is slightly more craft-oriented although plenty of East Anglian outfits are still sold. ---------- I’m glad this place exists. A pleasant tearoom/deli/cafe that also sells a lot of bottled beer. I mean a lot. Hundreds of bottles line the walls. With a few exceptions, the beers are from East Anglian micros, not all of which produce the most exciting beers. However it’s fantastic for the completionist and a ticking paradise, and they are slowly starting to stock slightly more adventurous beers. My only very small grumbles: the beers are unrefrigerated (how would you with that volume?) and are therefore better suited for off-sales, and the prices are expensive (but you will find some interesting reduced beers nearing or just past their best before date). Hours are limited, so make hay when the sun shines. Please also note that they can close earlier than appointed hours so it’s well worth calling before making a special trip.“

“It’s really hard rating a place like this. Wouldn’t stick out in London, but it’s a little gem of a place on Market Street in Ely. Three impeccably-kept ales join the local Pickled Pig cider. Not too many standouts in keg - Kozer and St Mungo lager - but this place is about keeping a few ales very well. Unassuming on the outside and inside, but friendly. No longer does a CAMRA discount but one ale is always kept at a special low price. What’s not to like?“

“Formerly the Liberty Belle, this is a cool micropub not too far off the centre of Ely. Railway memorabilia and old radios & TV make up the ambient bric-a-brac. Eight to ten beers - including two key keg - from East Anglia and the East Midlands (Northants is often well represented), plus about 10-12 ciders in perfect condition served straight from the barrel. Smattering of bottles changes but doesn’t push the boat out. (Camden Hells, couple of BrewDog). Friendly service. I love this place.“

“Cracking little alehouse not far from the Cathedral serving 9 ales. Ok, 3 of then are Greene King, but this includes the elusive XX Mild. No music here, but the buzz of intense and convivial conversation means you won’t miss it. And it’s got a proper pub carpet! Prices are steep even for the area. Friendly service. Old-fashioned but lovely. I could get used to this.“

“Intriguing pub with wooden furniture and lots of dead animals adorning the walls. (Nicer than I’ve made it sound). Roaring log fire. Dog friendly. All in all a mix of the traditional and the modern. Cask choice is limited to Adnams & nationals, but the quality is normally good. A cider (Picker’s Passion) as well. Some basic craft ales from Adnams, Camden and a couple German beers on keg.“

“3 cask ales, frequently featuring Oakham Ales and Buntingford. Pickled Pig cider available on cask also. A few bottled beers also available, including Anchor Steam. Annual beer festival with between 20-30 real ales on offer. My personal favourite pub in Ely, although it gets pretty crowded on a Friday and Saturday night.“
