“Excelsior is a very appropriate brewery for its location. Much like the atmosphere during the summer on Lake Minnetonka, this place feels like one big party. The place is always packed and their taproom has a large space with a welcoming feel. There are several tvs and they have a nice patio. They regularly have high quality bands and other events. Their beer befuddles me. It does seem to be getting better, but for the most part, it really does not excite me. I have had solid beers but nothing more. They sell many of their blonde which is not surprising when seeing their clientele. Overall, it’s a fun place to be and the beer is alright as well.“

“A cool little brewpub in downtown Excelsior with a live band and a nice patio. Large space with brewery in the back and taproom up front. Service was a bit slow but place was slammed. 8 beers on tap during my visit. No food available and prices were decent. A decent spot but nothing out of this world.“

“A definite party atmosphere in here on a Friday night. Kind of an eccentric, wild feel to the place. The beers hover in the space between acceptably plain and, unfortunately, undrinkably bad. It’s great for the Excelsior community to have a place like this, and though the quality ceiling here is pretty low, I’ll still stop in when I’m in the area.“

“Nice location on a lake but not a great beer place. They carry mostly bigger name beers with some regional selections mixed in and are a little pricey.“

“A fun place to hang out but no beer really, and the food is just ok. This shouldn’t be on ratebeer. Everything is expensive here.“

“Cool spot on the west metro. Good beer, nice little tap room with outdoor seating. Its a shame there is no view of Lake Minnetonka. Merch area is decent, has the basics. Growler are available.“

“An Irish pub in Excelsior. It is a nice place. Average prices for the standard British/Irish imports.Service was friendly enough. Not particularly a beer destination, but a fine choice for a meal.“

“Cool small place with a neat vibe. Well lit, clean and organized. Nice brewery merchandise for sale. There were 5 or so beers on tap. Some folks were playing a game of large wooden blocks in the middle of the seating area, and having fun doing it. Great downtown Excelsior location. The brewery will soon undergo an extensive expansion and upgrade starting in November 2013.“

“This location seems to be a little smaller than the others and not as organized, this is reflected in a smaller beer selection. good location on the highway to Excelsior, and they have a decent selection for the area.“

“Visited on a cold December Saturday and the place was packed. Even in the cold, the atmosphere of this place is like a day at the beach. Four or five beers were available, including a one off on cask, the brown with maple. Growlers for sale. Standing room only and not many tables. Staff was friendly. $5 a pint is just a little high. A fun place.“

“Had a groupon so I went with my girlfriend. They had 5 beers on tap, $5 or so per pint with some swag for sale as well. Growler fills were offered but not all were available when I was there.“

“Taproom located at the brewery. Raucous crowd for 5:30 on a weekday but fun! Accordion guy belting out tunes. 3 taps, and those are available as growlers as well. Cool spot, and the beers are pretty solid.“

“Maynard’s is a great place to hang out during the summer on their patio, and at which to pull up your boat if you’re lucky enough to have one. However, a beer destination it is not, and therefore it should be deleted from the site. It has no craft beer offerings that you wouldn’t also find at virtually any bar/restaurant in the Twin Cities.“

“Gotta give this place some props - not exactly a craft beer destination, but they do have a few craft beers on tap, and probably around 20 total taps. Most of the craft beers are regional (Leinenkugels, Summit, Surly, etc.). But drinking a Summit EPA while sitting by the water in the middle of summer....good stuff.“

“By no stretch is this a craft beer bar but rather a decent place on Lake Minnetonka to sit down and grab a beer and some food. The patio is large and expansive with a nice bar. Lots of macros on tap and in bottle. I choose the NB Ranger IPA. They also offer Summit, Leine’s, and Sam Adam’s for those looking for the non-macro. Service is ok. Prices can be a little high.“

“I saw that Cellars moved in to replace a store that I had never been in. I went in just to look around and hit paydirt for the West Metro. This store has really good selection, lots of cooler space, and build your own shelves. I found all the standard Minnesconsin area beer, all the standard domestic craft brew offerings, and a decent imported selection. Just to give a feel for the selection, I found Fantome, Rochefort, Surly, Flat Earth, Tyranena, New Holland, and so on (not bad west of 494). This does not have the depth of selection of US Liquor, so you still have to go all the way in for that, but if looking for a better selection than MGM Minnetonka, stop here. This really is the best thing to happen to the South Shore area for some time.“
