“Interesting place. After visiting this place and reading the other reviews I can understand why it scores so low. When I was here the place was dead. It was me, my wife, one other person, and quite a few employees. That didn’t seem to phase the band that was playing though, which I didn’t realize was playing until I left and walked pas them. The staff was great, very attentive, served all beers in the proper glassware, and poured all beers correctly. Beer selection seems to have gotten smaller from what’s been reported in the past. Standard Pauliner and Erdiger beers along with Chimay red and blue, Duvel, and a couple of Lindemanns beers. Maybe ten to twelve different beers total. All of which are priced like they would be in western markets, but is high by Chinese standards. They did seem to have a full bar thought. This selection, while limited is damn good for where this bar is. China is the largest beer market in the world, but seems to have very few beers, all of which are the same style. To find a bar that serves anything other then a light lager is quite a feat. This bar does that. If you are coming to Guilin to drink or find something unique, then your priorities are messed up. You need to look at it as you are in a cool city, with amazing scenery around you, in a very cool country, and this is a bar that serves some good German beer, that might have been stored a little too long. Once you look at it that way, the weirdness of the place becomes a selling point. I actually found the strange mix of English/German pub atmosphere, with bad American pop music, Chinese tv and employees quite sureal. Go to Guilin for the beauty of the area, come to this bar if you want to drink beer that isn’t a light lager.“

“Dirty, menu is not updated, dreadful music and no German food. Also, they don’t brew their own beer here, so this is not a brewpub. It’s a dive bar with Paulaner name slapped on the front.“

“This Paulaner is not even mentioned on the official Paulaner website, so i wonder if it’s no longer associated with them. And I can see why. The service was pretty good and you can tell the servers have been trained to pour a beer properly. The selection is mostly common German and Belgian beer, but the first two I chose from the menu were not available. So, who knows what they actually have. Maybe just Paulaner hefeweizen, which incidentally tasted old or not as good as I’m used to. I also expected to find German food on the menu, but no, it was just American pub food. Ordered fries, and they were thin and mediocre like MacDonalds. Dingy and a bit run down. Still, it’s probably the best beer selection in Guilin, despite not keeping the menu up to date. Also expensive for China.“

“Overall a terrible Paulaner. Erratic opening hours, smoky room, live loud folk-pop. They don’t brew and their bottles aren’t in the best condition. I did like the Tom & Jerry cartoons on the TV, which are funny because they have Chinese subtitles. Tom & Jerry do not speak, so what could they possibly be saying in Chinese?“

“Considering that this brewpub is located in China and has 30 or more beers including a descent selection of German and Belgian beers says enough after drinking a few of the local lagers.“
