| 80 /100 Jolly Fisherman (Bar) 3 EAST BEACH STREET “Pub on the front in the Old Town. Proper little cosy old fishing town boozer. Bottles in the windows and inside only seats about 25 max. Small bar of carefully curated beers with two cask beers plus a fridge of interesting bottles which included Old Chimney's Red Admiral, which I snapped up. Only downside was the cask beer tasted flat and a bit lifeless. Will definitely give this place a second chance because the service and clientele was very nice.“ |

However, the star of the show are their local cask ales. I came on a Monday night in October and was surprised to find it was very busy with a tapas night. Food was great value, hence why so many locals there, and staff are really friendly. Highlight for me though was the Best Bitter and the Pale ale which we both outstanding cask ales in perfect condition. The Best Bitter had a feel of Harveys about it with a bit of fruity rhubarb in the aroma and flavour. I also tried the Gold which felt like it was on the turn. One of the highlights of Hastings for me.“ |

Named after 1200 saucy French postcards were destroyed by the authorities in 1906 after the owner of a sweet shop here was caught selling them under the counter! 3-4 real ales, 2-3 craft kegs, 3 ciders and several bottles and cans are on offer. A handy stop off point to/from the Imperial brewpub. I visited in mid January 2019 when it had just opened and several works were still going on so will review next visit when it should be complete.“ |

Corner pub with the brewery in one corner, bar and then wood fired pizza oven so you can see your pizza being made and cooked. Very friendly and helpful service. 6 beers from the brewery here and 6 guests all well chosen. I spent a happy couple of hours here sat at the bar chatting to the people who run it.“ |

Situated in the old attractive High Street, it's a warm and homely pub with friendly service. 5 FILO beers on tap, though not much else. Asked it they did a taster board and was told no but barman proceeded to pull off a generous free sample of each beer so I could try each one to decide which one I wanted (chose the gold which was definitely the best but there was plenty enough to get a rating out of each). Ate there, food was good. Worth a visit.“ |

They are not yet set up for online or mail order deliveries but agreed as a one-off to send a box of East Sussex beers and ciders that I put together to me (f.o.c given what I spent). Decent selection from local breweries available, mix of ales and craft. Prices ok. 4 taps. Bottles/cans for drink in or take away. Must visit if in area.“ |

A fantastic newly opened micropub in the old part of Hastings on the seafront. Less than 2 mins walk from the Dolphin and Jenny Lind pubs. 4 beers on tap aswell as 3 ciders. Many bottles too, mostly from the UK, Belgium and Scandinavia plus the odd one from Germany, USA etc. Wonderful snacks/tapas very reasonably priced. Very welcoming owners who create a friendly atmosphere which rubs off on all in there! A must visit in Hastings. The 2 beers I had in there were in tip-top condition and included a green-hopped beer from semi-local Cellar Head brewery.“ |

Plus 3 beers on tap which included Mad Squirrel Puckerberry Sour, Deya Steady Rolling Man Pale Ale and Siren Craft Soundwave Sessions Double Simcoe. I think these were on key-keg, the Deya certainly was! Although one can drink in there is no seating area, which was fine mid afternoon on a weekday but might be too crowded at other times! A nice stopping point en route to the Imperial. The owner/manager was very welcoming and we had a good chat about many beery topics. Prices are a little high for Hastings, my half pint of Deya cost £2.95 and my brother spotted Three Legs cans almost double for what that brewery charges at their plant! A welcome addition to Hastings nevertheless.“ |

The beer range on cask was pretty decent with a good mix of brewers plus all the usual bottles etc. Service was pretty good and prices were also low. It's not a bad stop off if you want a cheap cask beer.“ |

It's got a huge glass frontage offering sea views. Decor is clean and modern. Central bar with 4 cask ales. Picked up a couple of new beers here and ones Is not seen elsewhere in town. Prices were ok. Staff were friendly and happy to let me eat my fish and chips much to the horror of the residents. It's a decent stop.“ |

Loads of room in the place, decor is a little worn and lived in but not bad. Beer range was decent with around 8 cask beers from around the UK. The ones I tried were in good condition. Prices good and service friendly. Decent trad boozer with good ale range. Somewhere I'd try again.“ |

Plenty of seating and set up for dining mostly and it was super busy when I landed. Decor is really smart and modern. Beer range is the true star here and probably the best in town. A great mix of cask and keg beers from local sources. Prices and service great. Definitely one to head for if you're in town.“ |

Decor is nice old wooden panels and plenty of tat. 2 beers on cask 1 from Fullers and something else that is easy to come by. Prices and service OK, not really a beer destination just a solid local boozer.“ |

Situated on the sea front and a couple of minutes for the pier this is a large beer bar and diner, it has a couple of rooms which are quite spacious with plenty of seating. Place was rammed as Dodgy were performing following the cancellation of the Beano on the Sea. The beer range was pretty good with house beers provided by Freedom, a mix of some of the larger UK craft brewers (Camden) plus a few guests with a Wild Beer and Lervig on tap plus a couple of local ciders. There's also a solid range of bottles too. Prices were decent and the service was really good and efficient with the pub being heaving. Looks like a decent place and place to visit if you want some decent craft beer in Hastings“ |

Decent place. Worth a stop for the beers if you've not had them before.“ |

Nice locally sourced ales including Burning Sky, Romney, and Franklins Brewery. Beer quality was very nice when I was in. Service friendly and knowledgable. Food was excellent. Interior is cozy, stylish and has a very local feel to it. Pub sells its own bread.“ |

On our visit the Hophead was in cracking form and the Shore Break from Country Life brewery in Devon was good too. The radio can be annoying if on too loud.“ |

Despite guest beers from across the UK and a few from abroad, the main emphasis here is local, especially food. Maybe a bit too trendy and foody for some but the choice and quality of beer is excellent. Forms part of a good pub crawl as 2 mins walk from the Dolphin and Jenny Lind pubs. Hastings brewery Porter and Handmade #14 plus a beer from Clarkshaws in London were all in good nick.“ |

We received possibly the warmest welcome along with The Tower in St Leonards on Sea when we entered here. This looks and probably is a fairly ancient pub with lots of wood around. Beer choice was a little limited with Otter Ale, Fullers ESB and one other unmemorable one, the Otter was in good nick but it ain’t a great beer. This is a dog friendly pub for those with canine friends. As you enter the bar is immediately in front on the left. I didn’t do too much exploring but the pub clearly opens out towards the back, free Wi-Fi but unless I logged onto someone elses the free Wi-Fi was BTFON so only free to BT customers. I liked it in here, staff and locals were very friendly.“ |

I am unsure quite how this deserves to be sat at the top of the rankings with FILO when there are at least 4-5 pubs that spring to mind as being far better options than this, perhaps it used to be good. This is another pub situated close to the seafront and the front of the pub like the dolphin is a suntrap so if the currant bun is out forget trying to bag a seat outside. Around the side is a table (in shade) and out the back a small garden area with seating, though it all looked rather grubby with tables unclean and just a general untidy look which spilled into the interior, I accept that on such days pubs will be busy and staff stretched but none of the other pubs which were equally as busy looked as grubby. The beer choice was fairly average for a Shepherd Neame pub, Spitfire, Kent Invicta Best and if course being Jack in the Green they had the Jack in the Green ale on which was probably the best choice. I guess my rating will see this place settle into a more realistic placing amongst the Hastings choices.....Good!“ |
| 70 /100 Dolphin Inn (Bar) 11-12 ROCK-A-NORE ROAD “We (me, Loz, Isobel & Berry the dog) visited here on Saturday 3rd May 2014. The pub is situated just along from Winkle Island opposite the tall black fishing huts on Rock-a-Nore still part of the old town I guess. A note to less able visitors there are two to three steps up to the outside patio that leads into this pub, being a sun trap this are was full with the great british public many of them displaying far too much flesh and tattoos. Inside the large central bar with seating all around (it was busy) was straight on front to the right, you sort of enter fron the left hand corner of the pub. The usual seaside tat, such as nets, small buoys, lobster pots etc hung about everywhere. Beer choice was pretty good with a decent selection of well kept local ales, I had WJ King Green Bullet and Loz had Whitstable Amarillo but there were three others. Service was efficient and friendly and staff very helpful, not withstanding.the fact that FILO has beer festival this weekend which artificially inflates the beer choice, this pub probably has the best selection in Hastings.“ |

Food looks good if a bit pricey.“ |

Usually a good atmosphere in this ancient part of Hastings. Hosts a beer festival once/twice a year. Used to brew on site, now brews a few doors up the road which helped to expand slightly.“ |
| 72 /100 White Rock Hotel (Bar) WHITE ROCK “We visited here Sunday 5th May 2013. The weather was gorgeous, we sat outside overlooking the remains of what was clearly a wonderful Victorian pier which appears to have succumbed to either fire or storm ravages or more likely both. This hotel was very busy, there is an outside veranda and quite a bit of seating inside, it appears that children and dogs are very welcome. Beer choice was good with Dark Star and Rother Valley to breweries I rather like as options on our visit. Clearly this doesn’t have the snug or traditional feel of a proper pub, but the service was great, beer was in very good condition and it is a pleasant walk along the sea front probably about 1/4 walk from the new town area. Just for orientation purposes when you enter the hotel you go through a revolving door, immediately turn right to enter the bar area which you will see ahead.“ |

We sat in the downstairs front bar which is quite snug, there is a much bigger ’main’ bar upstairs, however this was a nice little bar. They had a special ’Jack in the Green’ beer which was fine. The atmosphere was pleasant, the pub looks quite a historic place, situated on the main shopping street in the very pleasant old town.“ |

There was a beer festival on, so the usual 4-5 handpumps were supplemented by a further 10-12 beers on gravity. I had a FILO porter which was v.decent however the Dark Star Carafa Jade and Oakham Inferno were the best that we had here. The pub was swelled by the fact that ’Jack in the Green’ Folk/Morris festival was taking place. It is a small but pleasant pub on the High Street in the old town, the bar is to the right as you enter. A good pub any time of the year but I reckon it would come into its own in the winter months.“ |
| 70 /100 64 GEORGE STREET, TOWN CENTRE “Atmospheric pub with is low Tudor style beams and perfectly lit for a very cosy intimate visit any time of year. It is an excellent place for a meal but also for a drink and there is a garden area towards the rear, and an extension into the pedestrian street out front when the weather is good. This is an old world pub through and through but there is also a nautical theme and you’ll see pictures or drawings such as the death of Lord Nelson throughout. Shepherd Neame ales are available and is directly opposite another of this brewery’s pubs The Anchor.“ |
