62 /100 Carlos' Bistro (Restaurant) HARALDSGATA 131 This was a pleasant surprise in the pedestrian street in Haugesund. A small and rustique bistro, seemed to be very popular. Varied furniture and seating, white tiles by the bar and kitchen. We had ordered a table for three for dinner. Very limited beer menu, only bottles. Most from Skudenes but also two beers above 4.7% from Salamander and Bømmeløen. Stronger beers from these two local breweries are not easy to find. Mediterranean inspired food. My choice; today's catch, that was Brosme (cusk/tusk) Top notch! Shared a bottle Salamander Saison #1 with my wife. Service was a bit slow but it was very crowded due to Sildajazz, a local music festival in Haugesund this weekend. Certainly a place I would like to visit again. (Visited August 12th 2023 with my wife and my daughter Sofie) |
76 /100 ÅSBYGATA 3 Lovely located place with a wonderful wiew to the ocean. nice staff. Ok selection of beer. |
70 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 A quite big Vinmonopolet bottle shop. Located inside a big shopping mall in the city centre
Easy to find
|
74 /100 Høvleriet (Bar) SMEDASUNDET 66 Probably one of the most rare and exceptional places I have visited for a long time!
You just have to visit this place to understand.
It contains almost everything you want
The only rare thing is opening hours…..the owner is a billionare….and opens whenever he want
Contact RuneStumo if you want proper information or some get a visit when it is closed
I visited this place at a big festival called Sildajazz
Had a beer together with RuneStumo at the patio. You can also have a bath from the pier here
The brewer popped up when we were there. He is very easy to have a beer (and everything else) chat with
He took us for a guided tour in this rare old wooden building and of course in the brewery
You are allowed to buy bottles and bring home. But if he have other things to do….well then you can dream on.
It is 4,7% on the label……but I am quite sure they are quite higher than that in real life.
They brewer was happy that I did not drive and drink one of his beer……

80 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 Having a great time here Asked if there were any dark Norwegian beers and the friendly owner brought 3 bottles of stout for us to see. We selected Kinn Bresjnev 8% and Lervig Konrad's stout 10.4% both of which are fantastic. Handy for folk coming in from a cruise ship |
68 /100 ÅSBYGATA 3 Lovely place located at the waterfront, with a big patio for those sunny days. Good beer selection on tap, and some hard to find beers in the fridge/cellar as well,, just ask at the bar. Hotel bar vibe at my visit, busy at my visit, 10 minutes in line for a beer.... They do serve food as burgers,, fish & chips+++, tasty. I would say this is the best place for beer in Haugesund for the moment |
30 /100 Brasserie Brakstad (Bar) KAIGT. 2 Nice Brasserie in the party area of Haugesund. Sea front view and a nice covered patio. But, is this a craft beer destination? Not at all! Ordinary beers from Carlsberg/Ringnes. Beer geeks? Go to Cafe Rene! (Visited September 22nd 2018) |
76 /100 Høvleriet (Bar) SMEDASUNDET 66 Visited during Haugesund Ølfestival (Beer festival) Otherwise, not easy to visit, as RuneStumo and Holmen1 have written. The name "Høvleriet" is from when this old wooden building was a sawmill. Lots of history in the timber walls. The floor is just rough concrete and leads the sea water out in case of extreme spring tide. The barman told me that that sometimes happens! Restrooms are upstairs and if you go further in upstairs, you come to the brewery, Garasjebryggeriet. Both Garasjebryggeriet upstairs and Høvleriet downstairs were festival area this year. By the way, great beer festival and dirt cheap to enter. Maybe Garasjebryggeriet deserves a separate entry in the places section? Rumor says they have open pub one Friday every month. That would be nice! And, much easier to just drop in and enjoy their beers on the premises. (Visited September 22nd 2018 with my wife) |
80 /100 ÅSBYGATA 3 "Haugesund Ølfestival" was the main reason why we visited Haugesund, and Scandic Maritim is situated right beside Høvleriet that hosts the beer festival. The hotel also offers Haugesunds best beer selection! Cafe Rene is a nice cafe and bar with 13 beers on tap and about 150 bottles and cans. At least five of the taps are rotating craft beers, Aass Bryggerhuset, Monkey Brew and Salikatt were on at my visit. The nearby brewery Salamander has a beer only available here, Salamander Reifur. I also found a bottle from Garasjebryggeriet in the fridge! A flight of five beers is available and this pub is also a Verified Venue on Untappd. Friendly service and nice harbor view from the outdoor seating. Hungry? I enjoyed a really tasty mussel soup. Since this is a cafe, you can also pair your beers with a cake or other sweets. I guess this is an acquired taste. If old fashioned brown pubs is your thing, this is maybe not your favorite place to enjoy beer in Haugesund. For me it was great. 70 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 Located in the shopping mall "Markedet" in the very centre of Haugesund. Good selection of Norwegian and foreign beers, many new ones when I visited. Friendly and helpful staff. |
48 /100 Meny - Karmsundgata (Grocery Store) KARMSUNDGATA 60 Pretty solid selection as expected when you enter a big Meny store. Norwegian and imported beers. Best store in Haugesund for the moment. Will probably change when Gulating opens in September. |
50 /100 Meny - Karmsundgata (Grocery Store) KARMSUNDGATA 60 An ordinary Meny grocery store. Good selection of Norwegian craft beers. Most of the usual suspect among craft breweries from Norway are present. The Meny store at Gard (north) does not have the same selection. I’m not sure about Meny in the shopping centre "Oasen Storsenter" (south) Easiest to visit by car. (Visited with Gunnar August 13rd 2016)

62 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 Not bad at all. This Vinmonopolet store had a decent selection from Norway and abroad. Very service minded staff. Two female employees asked if we needed help during our visit. They seem to care about the customers and are more than willing to advice. (Visited with Gunnar August 13rd 2016) |
60 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 An old and nice wooden buildig centrally located in Haugesund. As Gunnar said, a nice English styled pub. Well attended during "Sildajazz" (Herring jazz) Good beer selection? Not at all, but maybe decent in this small city. Macro crap on tap but some interesting bottles. Actually a good selection from Lervig, but nothing new for me. "Stuelands" guest tap was Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc. Not at all what I expected when I spotted "Guest tap". (Not a nice surprise...) Friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. (Visited with Gunnar August 13rd 2016) |
56 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 Long and narrow store with a fair share of space for the beers, counted almost 160 beers at my short visit with Bryne 13.8.16. Very good selection of Norwegian micros, and the staff was friendly and service minded. |
64 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 Visited during Sildajazz, the placed was filled to the brim, but managed to squeeze in a few inches from the instruments. Big corner bar.Nice interior, English Old Pub, the same interior you can find in pubs in all the mayor Norwegian cities. Tap selection was rather poor, only industrial lagers from the Carlsberg palette. Place is saved by an excellent bottle selection, lots of Lervig, some Nøgne Ø, Kinn and other Norwegian micros. Good service, recommended place, if you are into bottles. |
82 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 Visited on a relaxed Monday evening in July 2016.
The place is located in central Haugesund. The lady in the bar, Anna, spoke English and was really friendly and nice to talk with. The locals were also friendly.
I really liked the atmosphere of this place, the service was excellent. The selection was good, I saw many new bottles from different Norwegian craft beer breweries. (I had 3 new ones from Lervig and my first ever from Aja Bryggeri)
Well worth a visit. |
70 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 Visited in July 2016. Located in a rather small shopping center in central Haugesund. (very close to my hotel, Scandic Maritim)
The selection was good, I did find beers from new Norwegian breweries like Cervisiam, Qvart and St Hallvards.
I talked about beer with one lady from the staff, she was really friendly and enthusiastic about the beers from the small Norwegian breweries. |
64 /100 Høvleriet (Bar) SMEDASUNDET 66 Great ambience at this unusual place, which unfortunately is open only during concerts and festivals, so you must check their homepage first. Great beers from Garasjebryggeriet, freshly made on the premises by owner and enhtusiast Bjørn Dybdahl. |
40 /100 Himla Godt Spiseri & Bar (Restaurant) SKIPPERGATA 4 Burger restaurant with a good view of tha waterfront, with a limited beer selection, all in bottles. Wouldn´t recommend for the beer selection, there is far better places in Haugesund, but the view and the food is at least OK. |
66 /100 Himla Godt Spiseri & Bar (Restaurant) SKIPPERGATA 4 Cosy and informal eatery centrally located in Haugesund, with a good selection of bottled beers from (amongst others) Lervig at decent prices. Small but well assorted menu and friendly staff. Their burgers went very well with a bottle or two from Lervigs Brewers Reserve Series. Will definitely come back. |
60 /100 Høvleriet (Bar) SMEDASUNDET 66 First and most important information here is that this place only opens when there is a festival or a concert. So if you plan to check out the beers from Garasjebryggeriet you have to plan this well and come when there is an arrengement. Check out their facebook site to find out, or contact me, I can help you find out.
This place is located in an old boat house in the inner harbour in Haugesund. Fantastic place. There is a lot of good conserts here and they serve the beers from Garasjebryggeriet, the only brewery in Haugesund. So when its open, its a very nice place!!! |
90 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 Great atmosphere and Kristine provides exellent service. Great selection of good beers. Frequent tasting venues, and always something new to tast :) And a great source of bottles for the home brewers! |
88 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 We went there on a business trip. I got a Lervik and a Brooklyn.
The service is very nice and helpfull to choice a beer. |
78 /100 Stueland’s Abothek (Bar) STRANDGATEN 152 29.03.2014. Together with Aadne. Stuealnds Apothek is at the time (March 2014), together with Jimmi Legs, the beerspot in Haugesund with the best selection. Kristine behind the bar counted 12 taps and around 68 different beers. She also said that they always try to refresh and add new beers. Nice place with good seating and nice interiour. Situated down town Haugesund. Good selection, Good service and a very nice place! |
52 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 OK "Pol" with a good selection of import beers. |
44 /100 Brasserie Brakstad (Bar) KAIGT. 2 Haugesund is not a beer town. Of all the joints along the waterfront, this is the only one where I found decent beer. Hardly a great selectction, but they did had bottles of Nogne IPA and Pale Ale. The rest of the selection is not worth mentioning. Otherwise it is a pretty nice place. |
48 /100 Brasserie Brakstad (Bar) KAIGT. 2 Ok Nice place with good seafood in adjoining restutant
Some interesting beers, but mostly beers tatt are pretty widely available |
40 /100 Brasserie Brakstad (Bar) KAIGT. 2 Visited on April 10th 2012. Very close to the Haugesund City Center at the docksides. Nice seaside interior. Staff is not enthousiastic though. Only 7 to 8 beers on the list, international lagers (budweiser, heineken ...) with only 1 Norwegian beer, Tou. Although when asked at the waiter she even was not sure if Tou was Norwegian or Chinese. I mean ... com’mon. Average food. Not worth a visit actually. |
52 /100 Brasserie Brakstad (Bar) KAIGT. 2 10.04.2010. I belive this is the bar with the best selection of beers in the Haugesund region. There are about 60 different beers in the bar, mostly bottled beers. Most of the beers are foreign beers and the selection of Norwegian micros shoud be much better. Nice place situated on the Haugesund Harbour area. |
54 /100 Vinmonopolet Haugesund (Beer Store) SKAREGATEN 92, POSTBOKS 401 The Vinmonopolet is a monopoly outlet for alcohol beverage with ABV above 4,8%. Vinmonopolet in Haugesund is a medium sized store with a medium sized selection. The staff is very happy to help you if you ask them. If you have the time to place an order they will get you every item listed in their system. Ask for the bestillingsliste or check out their web site www.vinmonopolet.no |
