“Very nasa centric theme, which is of course cool. They even had the local AIAA chapter doubt space trivia :). Super friendly. Pizzas made on site. Flights of four avail. Beer quality so so.“

“Almost missed this place tick as I have been to the old location. Spacious but busy on a Monday night. Good service, flights of four avail. Meat good, salad bad. Beer below average across the board, which was surprising based on prior examples.“

“Standard Brass Tap, with a long bar and lots of tables. Big TVs everywhere. The server was quick and quite friendly, and enthusiastic about the beers. Quite a lot of taps, but most aren't very interesting. Some quality stuff and local gems. Cool spot, if a little chain-ish.“

“Old pub-style storefront in downtown Huntsville. Shabby and well-worn, in a good way. Eclectic decor, and a low-key vibe. The server was friendly enough, and helpful. Small, interesting tap list. Chill spot to hang out. If I were local, this would be a frequent haunt.“

“Big place across the way from Straight to Ale. Open and busy, and a little impersonal. The bartenders were overworked and short. Great selection, though, including tons of seasonals and rarities, and even some wine and cocktails. Fun spot, in the middle of a bunch of breweries.“

“Big space up front in the campus. Lots of tables and a long bar, with a good view of the brewing space. The decor is a bit drab, with a focus on merch, which is kinda lame. The service was slow, but friendly enough. A huge spread of styles, including lots of barrel-aged stuff and seasonals. $8 for a flight is nice, though. The pizza I had was quite good, too. A fun stop, right in the mix with a bunch of other places.“

“Large brewery in the Campus 808 area. They have quite a long tap list, about 6 regulars and maybe 20 seasonals including some barrel aged beers. Definitely plenty of selection and solid offerings. There is an adjacent (but separate) section where you can get pizza. TVs above the bar. A nice spot, beer was mostly good.“

“Big modern place a few blocks from Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer. These guys are owned by a few different breweries like Good People, Avondale and Straight to Ale I believe. But they brew beer on location. They do flights and service was super friendly when I was in. Pretty slow on a Monday afternoon. The drafts are a mix between the breweries that partly own the place and perhaps others--I wasn't fully clear on that. Worth a stop in the area for sure.“

“Big place across the field from Yellowhammer. Friendly service and kind of your typical brewery taproom set up. Beers are ok, available in flights. Nothing to write home about but near enough to a bunch of other breweries to make it easy to stop in on a crawl. Prices decent.“

“Cool place in a complex with several other nearby breweries and beer bars. These guys have tons of taps, all available in flights. Quality is average, service friendly. I had a great calzone from attached pizza place. A little better than Straight to Ale across the field.“

“Wonderful place--a real tickers dream. I feel like I went in here with zero Alabama ticks and ended up with enough beer to get nearly to fifty, between the taps and the singles on sale. And plenty of Mississippi beers to boot. The bar here opens pretty early even though in the early hours there isn't a dedicated bartender. Tons of taps, all available in flights, either 2oz for $5 or 4oz pours for $10. Wish I would have sat down first before buying a bunch of cans because there was some overlap. Friendly staff. Lots of local stuff here on tap, from in state and nearby states. And ya, can selection kind of mirrors that. A must hit in northern Alabama.“

“In a small shopping center right off South Parkway. Nice bar area, and a fun little patio, and a big, bottle shop area. The bartender was friendly and enthusiastic about the beers. 32 taps with a good spread of styles. Quite a lot of bottles and cans, too. Fun spot, especially for this area. Will be back!“

“In the middle of downtown Huntsville. Not the easiest to spot, and it is unclear what it is. Big interior space, with an eclectic, dive bar feel. The bartenders are friendly and quick, and know their beers. A wide variety of beers, including a bunch of oddities and barrel-aged gems. Good prices, but no flights, which is a bummer for me. Interesting place, but worth a visit. Some of the better beer in the area.“

“A very large space in the Campus 805 space. There are multiple sections, which serve different beers, so be sure to choose wisely! Initially we started in I suppose the patio space. It was enclosed, though still a bit chilly in December. Pretty large and there are tables and a bar. But the beer and food menu is smaller than the indoor space. So we trekked inside (past an area that was being used for an indoor Xmas fair space) to the main brewery. This is a typical pub space, TVs, plenty of space. Overall the beers were good but nothing too standout. My favorite was the coffee cake imperial stout. They have a food menu which is typical pub fare. The poutine was pretty good and I got a salad which was huge. Definitely a place to stop in Huntsville as they probably have one of the larger tap lists, though it is a more crowded busy spot.“

“An odd place just next to Campus 805. Fairly empty on a Sunday afternoon. Filled with space memorabilia and they even have TVs exclusively devoted to space missions (not terribly interesting, just showing the orbit of some space vehicle). Beer names all with space themes. I just tried a couple of beers. They had a few saisons on. Nothing really standout, though still fine beers. They have a short menu of wood fired pizzas, which you can see them make from the bar. A chill place, they have games to play as well.“

“Not clearly a brewpub from the outside, but it's a pretty good one in downtown Huntsville. A large place, definitely caters to larger parties too. They have a large tap list, with some interesting beers (Mexican style imperial stout, coffee stout, Belgian triple, a few sours). Beers were solid. They have a good food menu, with a focus on tacos and pizzas. I ended up getting the shrimp and grits which was unfortunately super salty. But I would still go back as the beer menu is solid and I'm sure there's other food I'd enjoy.“

“Small spot in downtown Huntsville. Old school vibe with old license plates and other memorabilia on the walls. There seemed to be a lot of locals. A short tap list, mainly British styles (ESB, pale ale, london porter, a couple IPAs). The beers were good, though nothing really standout. Not my favorite spot in Huntsville, but worth a stop for a pint.“

“Old building, poorly laid out, and messy. The one employee was friendly enough, but seemed baffled that I was concerned about the age of an IPA on tap. A pretty reasonable tap wall for growlers, but they won't offer samples or sell tasters. The prices are pretty good prices, though. This is a mediocre shop, but they've got some good stuff around.“

“Open, warehouse-like space, with some sparse decor, and run-down equipment. The beers were nice, and there's a good spread of styles. They seem to be running out of beer quicker than they can brew it. Good prices. This is a fun spot, just outside the hubbub of Campus 805. Quality beer, good people, and chill.“

“New brew pub in the Providence community. They had 32 rotating craft beers, a wide selection of singles and a nice area of six packs to go. They sell kegs, growlers,by the glass and I dividual 5 oz tasters. The food was typical pub food bit they said they are going to try different things. My friend and I had dishes with beer cheese and it was difft on both plates. The beer prices are a bit high, especially from the to go singles and six packs verse other area beer stores. For the brew pub it was price ok. The staff was attentive at first but disappeared when it came time to pay the check. I will give them another try to see if they perform the same way.“

“A fairly large open space with a long bar. The brewery is visible through windows behind the bar. Place was pretty packed when we stopped in. Service was a bit slow and we had a hard time getting our orders in. Beers were all pretty solid. We had the hummus, which was tasty and more than enough for two people. It was nice to grab a to-go cup and wander the halls of the old school. Nice place.“

“Very well lit, clean, and organized. The left wall is all coolers with a large selection of Local, regional, national, and imports. The center of the store is seemingly devoted to large format and the “high end” craft beers. A fairly long bar with some table seating accompanies the growler station, which was quite impressive. Service was great. The singles selection was a bit sparse when I was there so the guy told me to grab whatever six packs I wanted and he’d break them for me. So I go pretty much everything I came for. A really top-notch store. Would be a regular if I lived here.“

Das Stahl Bierhaus (Beer Store)

“South Huntsville has sorely needed a good bottle shop and a good tap room and with Das Stahl they have both. Half the store is set aside for retail and though there are places in town with bigger selections, Das Stahl is one of the few that sells singles of everything, The other half of the place is a taproom and it looked the had a nice mix of hyper local and national craft. Retail prices were very reasonable. We’ll definitely be back here again.“

“Located just off courthouse square right next to an Episcopal church. There’s a parking lot across the street which is free after 5. This place deserves a 10 for ambience located in old brick building which dates from before the civil war. They had over a dozen beers as well as a cider and a mead. The beers were solid with the gateway beers being the standouts. By Huntsville standards prices were really good and they sold beers in 4 ounce tasters which I loved. I’ll definitely be back in the future.“

“Located in the Campus 805 complex which used to be Stone Middle School. The Straight to Ale taproom took over Stone’s gym. The entrance and lobby are the taproom and the actual gym holds their production brewery. (They still have the old Daktroniks scoreboard.) They have more beers on then at the Lehman Ferry location as well as a full service kitchen. They also have a patio and a green which will be great for outdoor concerts in the summer. Parking can be hard to find since there are a number of things located at the campus, but it was really cool to see a school re-purposed into something else. Hopefully this will serve as a model for others.“

“Half bottle shop and half bar with growler fills. The focus is local and regional craft on tap, with some national and import brands available in bottle. It’s a nice-looking shop and I like how they display the beer but there are no coolers and everything is out and warm. It did seem like they had mostly fresh stock.“

“Warehouse, but a modern well designed one on brewery row. Tasting room feels more like a nice bar trying to pretend to be a warehouse rather than actually being one. The beer was definitely solid to very good. The pizza place, Earth and Stone, that shares the location is pretty good pizza.“

“Wow, this place is impressive. Asked an employee how many taps and the answer was 105. 105! That’s hard to beat. Had a draft beer while I perused the bottle selection, which was also fairly large. It looks like they will allow you to break up six-packs if you’re looking for a single. I definitely plan on returning the next time I’m in Huntsville.“

“Centrally-located warehouse housing a tap room and pizza kitchen. Well-lit, high-ceilings, open floor plan, wooden furniture, and a covered outdoor patio with real tables. They pour glasses as small as 4oz, and they make respectable Kölsch and Pale Ale. The Neapolitan pizza place sharing their space looked and smelled promising. So it does everything right for me: 1) produce drinkable lager or Belgian beer below 6%, 2) have not-shitty food, 3) present a chill and uncrowded space, preferably outside.“

“My friends, coworkers, and myself will not be coming back to this business because they do not allow weapons on premises. Don’t get me wrong I respect that businesses have the right to have weapons on the property but it’s the fact of not having any policies or procedures in place to protect the customers. My partner at work and me have been coming here to get beer and liquor for a while. Our troubles didn’t start until a couple weeks ago we went in looking for a new beer and to get some liquor. We were confronted by an employee yelling from across the store telling us we can’t have our weapons in there. I told him that they need to put a sign up if they wanted to no weapons in there and he said I understand and asked us to next time to leave our guns in the car. We had been told by previous employees it is okay because we had been coming there since they opened there new location. So the next day my partner calls and talks to an employee who is relaying information to the owner who told us it was okay but she would have to talk to "The Old Man" to get the final say so and that if he didn’t want them they would have a sign up immediately. So I go there tonight to get some beer and no sign on the door I have my weapon like I usually do especially after work, because I carry one for work it’s required, and the same employee confronts me about it despite my partner being told it wouldn’t be an issue unless there is a sign up. I tried arguing a point with him but he wasn’t having it so because of one employee this business lost over 10 customers probably more when my unit finds out about this next week. If this trouble employee is reading this or hears about it I welcome him to contact me and we have a talk about gun rights and gun control and then I can show him the facts. My main point is if an establishment bans weapons on premises, that’s cool it’s there right, and they don’t have any procedures in place to protect customers how can you expect customers to feel safe in a gun free zone. Update as of February 10 2016 1130 a.m. talked to the owner today to get a clarification on if you can or can not of guns in his store he said no but he wasn’t going to post a sign because he didn’t want to lose any potential business. His reasoning for not allowing guns in his store was because they have a lot of crazy people come off the streets and he was worried they would come in and take your gun and harm his customers. Then proceeded to ask me to take down all my reviews I have posted of course I told him no and then he lost his composure and said well if that is how it’s going to be and hung up the phone. So since the owner will not warn you and put a sign I am going to. Spread the word to all your friends and family that you are not safe in his store they have a lot of crazies come in off the street. I have spread the word and my friends and family and my unit is no longer going to take there business there.“

“The new store is clean, well laid out, and vast. The bar area is nice, with big TVs and a singular tap wall. The employees are very helpful and have a thorough knowledge of beer and are very enthusiastic. The selection is large, with 95 taps, tons of bombers, and a big spread of singles. The prices are standard, but they've got $5 flights of 4 2 oz. samples, which is a ticker's delight. One of the best bottle shops I’ve been to. A must if you are in the area.“

“Looks like a seedy liquor store from the outside. Looks like a seedy liquor store on the inside but they have an amazing beer selection. Don’t let the name fool you the store is about 70% beer. They have a fantastic Belgian selection including a nice lambic selection. They also have a nice Italian craft selection as well as really supporting their local breweries. They literally have everything great spirits have plus 300% more. They also have 40 taps of local and other crafts. I wish they had glass growlers instead of plastic jugs for it. We bought about 3 six packs of Belgians and locals and they threw in free glasses. Fantastic! I can’t imagine a better beer store in the state. Of course after revisiting after five months I noticed they had much of the same kinds of stuff as before so the seasonals are lacking. I think I was overenthusiastic in my earlier review so I’ve taken it down a few notches. Update 12/27/12 I knew these guys would take advantage of the bomber law. They’ve opened a walkin fridge for bombers and more shelf space as well. They don’t quite have the same selection as Hop City but they’re not far from it. 12/30/15 It’s the first time I’ve been able to check them out since they moved into the old Sherwin Williams building. This place is now spectacular. They’ve really spent a lot of money upgrading the decor and have added more space. Liquor and beer/wine have separate entrances since the clientieles don’t have much in common. They have a lot more space than in the old location and they’ve also added a bar with all the taps now available as pints. It’s amazing how these guys have embraced craft beer and transformed from another dodgy liquor store to a destination craft beer place.“

“Enjoyable place to have a few and watch your favorite sporting event or have a simple meal. They carry 10 of their own beers and at least ten other craft beers. They also carry a few macro beers in bottles along with some craft beers. While they have their own beer on tap it was nice to see they also carried several local breweries products. I was there during happy hour so the prices were quite reasonable, but they are a bit pricey for normal hours. The food was excellent.“

Target - Huntsville West (Grocery Store)
6275 UNIVERSITY DRIVE
“It’s not a target it’s a super target which gives it twice the normal doucheness. Oddly they have the beer separated into two different sections with most of the craft beer near the entrance under special section and the BMC in the coolers on aisle 22 which is really odd. They have maybe 200 skus with some local and the expected regional and national craft like Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, new Belgium, rogue, founders, bell but nothing rare, very few bombers, and no pick six. Compared to most grocery stores in the region they have slightly more craft. It’s telling that’s it’s the only Target in the database since it really doesn’t belong here.“
