Konoba Kostanjac (Restaurant)

“Yet another time the go for craft beer & meal was a great idea. The way to the depths of the konoba might not be promising, but ultimately you will end up in simple furnished, old school bistro. Our meals were simply delicious. Beer selection, mostly bottles, was satisfying. Staff was friendly and helpful, spoke English and was aware of playlist. If you are on your way down to coast/plitvice, forget about all the highway fast foods or tourist traps, this is the place.“

“Visited with Hrabren... a cult place really - the outlet of what was widely considered to be Croatia's... most problematic... craft brewery. The brewery (Podrum) is probably next door to Dobra Kob, which is as generic a bar as can be imagined, with a nice little patio outside (as can be between some later-socialist style mall/market pavillions. Friendly, pro service more or less, though if you just ask which beers they have... they won't point out theirs (and I doubt you can talk beer with them). They are probably aware of the issues the brewery had though. There are 2 of their regular beers on tap, but they did advertise a new one, which we missed, in bottles. They are dirt cheap too, 10/11kn for 0.3, 13/14kn for 0.5 too I think, which is nothing really. Well... with the "quality" the brewery had in 2016, it was roughly 10kn too expensive but now... The pale was fruity and flowery, not 100% there, but okay, the dark had a nice little chocolatey touch, but the finish was muddled, maybe early onset infection, but maybe - the cleanest I've ever had the beers. So, if you're visiting the town, why the hell not. At least as a curiosity. But, great job for improving what used to be the worst beer made in Croatia! How to visit: Well, it's in the path between the big market pavillions, which are a few minutes from the central bus station in Karlovac and the "Karlovac Centar" (not "Karlovac") train stations. Or park nearby.“

“Konoba Kostanjac, situated near the city center, keeps the spirit of true "old school" fish konoba's with their simple interior. Food was great, I had fried calamari and really enjoyed them. Beer selection is crazy, especially comparing to any other place in Karlovac. Definitely worth a visit.“

“One of Croatia’s "hidden" gems. A seafood restaurant of great renown (yup, in Karlovac), a sprawling "complex" with inside patios not betrayed by the simple facade and the first room. Simple decoration, mostly tasteful I guess. Usually quite full apparently. It seems to sport 3-4 taps now and a very good bottle selection that includes seasonals - all from Croatian craft brewers. They have stuff that’s not even that easy to find. Very good in that aspect. As I said, it’s really famous for its seafood apparently, However, another thing to look out for are their "beer & burger events" that happen every now and then. The owner himself makes 2-3 types of special burgers from scratch, making every single thing he can himself. Really into that dish and it shows. Fantastic, likely the best in Croatia. Well worth stopping at but do try to do that for the burger events, you won’t regret it!“
