“Strange place to go with the strange ratings before me. The brewery is like a castle. It is awesome, really, just lovely, but we went on a warm August eveing and there were 7 people there, despite there being hundreds in Vogel. Sat in the courtyard garden, which was lovely, just wished there were a few more guests. How can a place that Michael Jackson lo9ved to much be so empty? Weird. Had 4 beers, most were decent but nothing special. They are trying new things with the porter, and it’s ok. Had a good time, but it was kind of surreal. Why such a lovely, established beiergarten so empty?“

“I was not expecting much from this place, but was very pleasantly surprised. Went into the biergarten out back in August. It was packed and very lively. got three beers: Gold, Pils, Sommerbier, and all were excellent unfiltered lagers. Yeast character very similar, but malts and hops different and all very nice, to my surprise. Wanted to go back just after leaving. This brewer nailed all three beers. A must.“

“It’s a grocery store, but they have local beers. No craft beers, but you can’t go wrong on tehse decent German pilsners and exports I think. And they are cheap.“

“Brewpub, which is a long way from the city centre in the suburb of Knielingen. Take tram 2 from the station to its terminus at Siemensallee, the either take bus 76 (more of a minibus actually) 3 stops, or walk 15 minutes. It’s based in a converted military building on the edge of a new industrial estate. It has 3 beers on including a seasonal, and all were good quality. The food menu, which was not tried, had all the German brewpub standards on, and appeared to be popular with the workers at Siemens, which is nearby. Well worth the effort of getting here if you have the time“

“Sort of nice outside in summer, inside not such a good atmosphere... big halls and in need of some refreshing. Value is nice, quality, service are ok-good. Most locals prefer the "Vogelbräu" beer to theirs. The taste of their main beer, the "Helles" seems to fluctuate between grainy and good. Overall not an exciting place, but why not cool down here on a hot summer day? It’s quite some way from the center of Karlsruhe, but ample parking space close-by and there’s a small creek and a short walk to a park, so something to relax...“

“New burger restaurant quite in the center of Karlsruhe (few steps from the main shopping street). Looks nice inside, but quite full with tables; and popular, so better reserve one when you want to have one in the evening... They have some "Hatz" and self-branded beers on tap, but beer lovers come here for their bottle list, which has about 45 beers, ranging from standard Lagers with a special touch to double IPAs, Belgian strong ones and beyond. But no sour beers or Imperial Stouts. Still a good selection with something for everyone - IF all of them would be available. But about 15 of them were not. At least they sometimes update the list, but be prepared to hear "we ran out of that" more than once while ordering. Still one of the best beer selections in restaurants in Karlsruhe and still you will find 3-4 nice ones to spend the evening. For me service was always friendly and good, even though sometimes confused. Food is some inexpensive simple stuff and a range of interesting quite expensive luxury burgers (side orders are extra). Taste is good. Beer prices are on the high-ish side.“

Streb Getränke (Grocery Store)

“Very big beverage store (member of a local chain) in some distance (but walkable) from the center of Karlsruhe-Durlach. All kinds of beverages, including a huge selection of beer. Mainly German "standard beer" (Pils, Weizen). Very limited selection of international beer (incl. Sierra Nevada and some English ones, in total like 10 different ones including the Imperial IPA etc.) and German craft beer (mainly/only Camba, but like 10 different ones and at a VERY good price). Didn’t check the standard beer, but would assume it’s relatively cheap, too. Ambiance is a huge hall, service is probably appropriate for this kind of place, but this means it’s mostly self-service and you shouldn’t expect friendly in-depth consultation about different craft beer styles. If you just want some German standard beer, this is a good place. But if you want international or craft beer, then you should be either okay with a very, very limited selection or aiming to buy larger amounts of yummy Camba beers.“

“Nice little shop not far from the city center, right opposite the university main buildings. One room is dedicated to beer, the other to gin, whiskey etc. The room looks sort of nicely arranged, but is neither big nor crammed full with bottles, so the selection is somewhat limited to something like 100-150 or 200 bottles (didn’t really count). That’s not much in comparison to other beer shops I’ve seen, but still much better than any other place in Karlsruhe or vicinity when it comes to international beer and craft beer. There are some from England/Scotland (including some standard Brewdog ones), Belgium, and a few from Italy (Brewfist), USA and Scandinavia. Plus German craft beers like from Braukunstkeller, Camba etc. No fridge. Don’t expect those American IPAs to be very fresh... they are not beyond best-before date, of course, but usually 6-9 months old. Service has been very friendly when I was there, I’m just not sure they are all total beer experts (no offense, just putting into perspective). Prices are... umm... there is not much else around to compare them to, but it’s not exactly cheap for a bottle shop. Nor is it overly expensive, though. Unfortunately there is no web page, nor can I find a phone number, but consistent opening times from 1pm to 10pm are nice. Given the lack of choice in the region, it’s a place I happily go to every now and then, and one that I would recommend to any craft beer lover in need of supply around Karlsruhe.“

“Ok pub- some guests on a thursday night. 2 beers on tap is really disappointing... No bottle selection either, as the focus is their own brew. Their beers was also disappointing- so this is a place that can be avoided“

“Large place next to an abandoned church that could be converted into a very nice bar or brewpub. Looks like an old government building. Restaurant tables to your right as you enter, bar on the left. Small kindergarten for the underage drinkers. Service was indifferent, but we were the only ones there, shortly after opening, so it looked as though they were not ready for us. No seasonal, so two beers only - one extra selection point because one beer was a schwarz, a welcome change from "pils oder weizen?"“

“First stop on a marathon brewpub crawl with koelschtrinker. Advantageous Sunday opening time at 10, and by 10:10 it was filled with football fans, fortunately behaving nicely. Large place looks like many others in Germany, small central biergarten. Special beer was not so special.“

“New place in older building (former military), so modern interior. Brewing 2 regulars and a special, but when I visited only had 2 on tap. Food list is typical German, some local specialties. Decent and good price. Beers were OK, service is good.“

“This is a big place. At my visit the whole place smelled of brew mash. The service wasn’t attentive, men the kitchen was fast in preparing the meals. Maybe a bit too fast because the schnitzels were not good. The beers were the usual hell, dunkel and weizen (this was a summer visit). The dunkel was good and the others so so.“

“Visited in mid July. 10 minutes from Karlsruhe West station and 15 mins from Kuhler Krug Attached to the brewery has a large terrace out back. Didn’t venture inside. Decent selection of beers from the tap house, good service and nice feel to the place. Good starting point for a crawl.“

“Really cool ambiance with strange tables and different areas. There is a slide to the downstairs and night club upstairs. The happy hour prices are really good, and the normal prices are good too. Food is nice and big portions. Standard selection of beers. Usually 4 on tap. Service is usually a little slower than other places in the city. Beer is average, but worth a visit just to see the weird interior.“

Visited many times between 2010 and 2011
Old building, with dull interior. It’s more busy than the one in Durlach, so the service is more careless. The beers are same as the other locations; one very good Pilsner and a rotating seasonal (usually every two weeks). Normal pub grub. I prefer the one in Durlach for many aspects.“

Visited infinite times between 2010 and 2011
The interior is quite modern-brewery, not much charme. Fast service, the first time provided by generously boobed blond girls; ones I gave them 2 growlers to fill with seasonal beer during my absence, and they did it; great guys!
Their Pilsner is sharp and excellent, it comes just after the one at Lindenbräu and Andreasbräu, in the area; they have one seasonal beer at a time (so total 2 beers on tap) but the seasonal changes in average every two weeks and they have the exact calendar on the website; beware that a couple of beers (around Halloween and New Year’s Eve) are available only for one day. I tried to compare the beers in the 3 pubs, the same night, and they are incredibly similar, so any of the three pubs would be fine (I prefer this one though, because the parking is easier than in Karlsruhe, and it was closer to my office than the one in Ettlingen).“

“Almost a carbon copy of the other Vogelbrau venues, and the same limited choice of beer on but which is kept interesting by having several seasonals. Unless time is of no essence I would not bother coming all the way out here as the beers were identical to the Vogelbrau on Kapellenstr. which is more accessible and nearer to other venues.“

“I am amazed I’ve had to add this place! One of the few bars worth drinking in that are in the middle of town (most are on the outer edge of the city centre, or in the suburbs!) Also a good place to sample the excellent Hoepfner beers, all of which are good examples of their styles, their pils and krausen being quite hoppy, while their porter is very interesting. Food fairly good and in large portions.“

“I stumbled across this place after not bothering to drink in Die Kippe, a few doors down the road (they were busy and noisy and only offered Moninger standard beers). By contrast this restaurant had a nicer patio and was all round more civilised including their choice of beer, Ulmer (Renchen) Pils and hefeweiss on tap! The Vogel brewery tap is nearby.“

“Student-pub near KIT in Karlsruhe. The selection is not wide and maybe too much focused on Moninger, the local Brewery, but the ambience and the low prices make this place a must in Karlsruhe. Everytime I come back to town I go there and have my 3/4 beers. Staff is kind and food looks good (though I never had the chance to dine there). Live music .“

“More a restaurant than a brewery, large. Crowded by locals having their lunch, which is not a surprise as prices are quite low and portions are good. They had 3 beers on tap (and bottled), tried one and purchased the others. Afterall this is lunch time. When you go down to the toilettes, you walk right into the brewery. I did not try the pilsener.“

“Really liked this place which opened late last year. It’s in a most off the beaten track area; we walked for 20 minutes or so through a new housing area from the station at Knielingen which is 10 minutes from Karlsruhe. It was well worth it and seemingly many other people thought so too. Great place. I wish them well. They do food which looked good but we were eating elsewhere that night. The pils and "original" beer were both excellent and a weissen was also on offer.“
