“Hyde's pub in student land, competing with the spoons across the road. They had a few guest beers on, mine was acceptable but not outstanding by any means. The best thing about this place is the happy hour during the week, when all cask ales are £2.15 a pint.“

“In its own building in the midst of the small commercial area of Manchester’s Fallowfield district, it’s hard to miss this large pub occupying the corner of a road junction with lights. The pub is surrounded by its own considerable outdoor area that includes a wooden hut used to extend the service areas available, I’d therefore expect this place to get very busy on hot evenings and the weekends. It’s a very large single floor pub with the bar in the centre of the main room with plenty of hand pumps dotted all around it offering a mix of Hydes own ales and their current guests. Live sport is shown here and there’s no shortage of tables and it does have the feel of a chain pub. Given this area has plenty of students it’s not a cheap place to drink.“

“Wetherspoon pub in the heart of the student area of Manchester, and the bar area is very long for when the Student Loan cheques come through. It only has six ale pumps so lager seems to be a popular choice. The premises are all on the ground floor including the toilets so there is no long walk for it here. The decor is traditional modern and cosy.“

“Large open-plan pub that has undergone a tasteful renovation. Unusually for Manchester (or anywhere), it manages to combine a lively, and friendly, mix of locals and students. Hydes beers are the staple but they also feature guests. Always available are the excellent Hydes seasonal beers. As this is the heart of Student Land, it can get very busy so sometimes it appears the service is less than ideal. However, the staff are friendly in difficult circumstances. I fully recommend sitting outside on the rare occasions it’s not raining as you can watch the most astonishing array of very beautiful people amble by. My rating for the food, unfortunately, is based only on watching portions being delivered, sorry. Looks and smells gorgeous. Number of beers is a guesstimate - usually 4-5 real ales and the rest made up from the usual lagers and Guinness.“
