“I see most of these reviews are a bit old and may not reflect the current operation. A name change might be in order as well, to House of 300 Beers. Bar in the back, about 12 local taps, flights available. Wonderful, friendly service. Small menu, pizza was delicious. Shelf stock was a disappointment, same stuff on the shelves as in the cooler. Lots of empty space in those coolers too. Not the world class shop I thought I was getting.“

“Great beer selection in the downstairs take out shop. I left with a box full of rare gems including some Avery, dogfish 120, and bourbon county. The prices were cheaper than any place I've found in the city. Over 50 beers on the draft list and they were all under $6. Enjoyed a cigar city draft, had a great salad with fresh ingredients, they were featuring a fried green tomato sandwich so we ordered that and the spicy shrimp dip. Both were fabulous. Finished the night with a southern tier Samoa draft. This tastes exactly like the cookie. We arrived here from a Groupon. I'm so delighted in this establishment and will definitely return“

“Outside, this doesn’t look like a major beer place, but inside all becomes evident. Shelf after shelf of singles (I doubt there is anywhere close to 1000) to choose from. Service is friendly and always available. My only concern is the price - I purchase 5 six-packs of traditional singles, and the tally was $100 (understand the regular six-pack price of each selection would average about $10, which means a 60% mark-up from normal profitable prices). Obviously, I really liked the place, but would like more reasonable pricing.“

“Visited on a Sunday in the early afternoon after RBSG. Dedicated parking lot. Not many people were here when I visited. I checked out the tap list and was surprised to find they had a few nice sours on tap. I had a Bullfrog Kriek while here that was very nice. The bottle selection is large and they had a lot of nice things available. My only complaint is the pricing. Individual bottle prices seem to be higher than I would expect by about double. I think a lot of that has to do with the beer laws of PA, so I’m not going to count that against them too much. I built a six pack and bought a large format bottle from Perennial. I would come back just for the tap list. They also had a kitchen and the food looked like it was pretty good, so if I could swing it, I would plan to have lunch here.“

“Went for dinner and to try some new beers I haven’t tried before. They have 52 selections on tap and hundreds of bottles available. The location is nice. Ample parking, bar, inside and outside seating and a large pavilion for events or parties. Inside appeared to be somewhat small and cramped compared to the size of the building. The service was fairly slow but the people were nice and accommodating. They don’t sell flights but they gave us several free samples to try and we purchased several others at happy hour prices. Prices are reasonable. Food wasn’t the greatest but they have a large menu to select from. It would appear that most of their business is from beer sales and bar food but they did have OK entrees to choose from. Smoking is allowed so just be aware.“

“Great bottle and draft selection. Many drafts are available in 5 Oz or 10 Oz pours. Three areas to hang out at. Upper area has a large bar and seating. Outside has big patio area. And downstairs which contains the "bottle shop" which has small bar and some cozy hang tables. Food was pretty good. Staff seemed friendly. I would go back again.“

“I drove from Columbus just for this one beer store and holy mutha’ it was well worth it, they are in a league of their own. The bottle selection is the biggest I have ever seen, and if they don’t have it it’s probably not available anywhere. The guy who runs it is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I’d give it 130 if I could. Also they have a bar with more beer on tap.“

“Large assortment of beers to select from. It didn’t have everything I was looking for but I was able to get a good sampling of a variety of types at a fair price. It is great to be able to buy by the bottle instead of 6 packs or by the case. I’m sure I will return in the future to pick out some others to try.“

“Beer selection is good if you can figure out what they have and do not have. Draft selection is often not kept current. Food is good but sometimes service is poor. Downstairs seems to be better than upstairs most of the time. Had to leave once without eating due to no service.“

“Pretty far out from the city, sort of in a bad area and the parking isn’t great. Bar area is pretty cool with plenty of tap selections. Bottle selection is nothing short of insane. Everywhere you look there seems to be something that you didn’t think could be had in the area. Everyone I encountered was incredibly friendly and helpful. Prices are a little high but I don’t mind paying a premium for stuff I can’t find elsewhere. Didn’t get a chance to try the food. This place is a must see if you’re anywhere in the area.“

“Dedicated parking, which should not be a problem. Going through the middle door where the register there is a corner of bottles on the left. The rest is to the right through a narrow hallway which has coolers on both sides which opens up to a good size room with beer on shelves in the back, the bar is in the front of that room. The place is sort of a dive. I had a guy that tried to help me almost the whole time. They get some rare stuff on draft and bottle from time to time. If they have a 1000 different labels I would think they are not much above that. I was particularly looking for local wheat beers, which they had only one. Bottles are expensive, but welcome to Pennsylvania. I bought four bottles, one local and three fairly rare beers. Website is not real specific on what bottles they carry. Website does seem to be real time of drafts. It is a good ways north from Pittsburgh, so I would have to go for specific bottles.“

“It’s not as big a place as I thought it was going to be, but at last they have their own parking lot. Vibe was dive bar meets used book store. I liked that most of what they offer, and they probably have 650-700 bottles, they had a solid pick 6 for a tenner section that has a lot of local craft stuff. Most of the bees they offer are a bit more expensive then you’d find in other states. They also had a few bottles from brewers like Crooked stave and Epic and prairie artisan and you will pay dearly for them. They also have a bar with 30-35 crafts on draft. It’s a pretty good store by PA standards and probably worth the trip if you’re looking for la rarity or two. .“

“Pretty nice selection of craft offerings, both in bottle and on tap. Stopped in on a weekday afternoon and it was not busy. Great service from the bartender, who knew her stuff. Downstairs bar and bottle shop offers up more Belgians on tap. Didn’t eat, but folks next to me had rather large and tasty looking sandwiches.“

“This is the best beer store in the Pittsburgh area. It offers plenty of single bottles, bombers, but no cases. Also they have 40 taps (sometimes less) which you can order a pint or growler to go. They have the best beer selection in Pittsburgh - including stuff that doesn’t even distribute here (Westvleteren, Russian River, Lost Abbey, tons of international stuff, Struise). I don’t know how they get it, but it’s here, and there’s a special shelf near the register with one offs (I remember Central Waters Peruvian Morning). The only problem is freshness - some of these gems have been sitting around for awhile, so be careful. It is also pricey, because you’re paying for single bottles (and the out-of-market stuff is just more expensive). Anyway, it’s a great place but it’ll hurt you’ll wallet because you’ll want to buy everything.“

“Bar/bottle shop. Excellent draft selection, and I was able to hang a bit with the owner at the bar, and he was quite nice. Other than that, the customer service sucked. I was browsing bottles half an hour and no one said a word to me and the cashier was a little surly when I checked out. Good beer selection with some rarities. The prices are high, but they also have a large selection of singles you can get for 9.95 a six pack. Small parking lot. Overall, glad I made the drive to come out here.“

“Visited March 29, 2013. What an incredible place! Well worth the research and effort to get to New Kensington, where you may well discover beers you never knew existed. I went for my hard to find Augustiner Edelstoff, plus a Shiner Bock from Texas (at $1 a bottle!! yes, it tasted fine!) before relying on the extremely helpful fellow at the register to help me load up on the rest of my Pennsylvania’s Two Six-Packs Only stash. Great Lakes Alchemy Hour Double IPA, Victory "Hop" Wallop, Stone Ruination IPA were recommended for me, and I decided to finish off with a Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55. Bar area in the back offered food (I think) and a series of awesome looking kegs. Truly outstanding beer store. Very highly recommended.“

“OK, back in 2011 this was just an old steel town bar with a bunch of micros in bottle. It was just your average joe’s place. However, I just went there this past week and wow has it changed. The upstairs is updated and friendly in atmosphere with lots of taps. However, the new downstairs beer store is the bomb. Many coolers side by side filled with lots of beers I haven’t seen before. I easily found 2 six packs of new single bottles without searching. The girl who provided the help was really friendly. She even brought out bottles of rare stuff from the back room to see if I ever had it before. There is also a room in the back with some seasonal specials. I would say any beer taster should check this place out. Overall very good beer visiting experience, I’m glad I stopped back to see this place. I stopped there about 12 on a wednesday not real crowded but my friends tell me this place rocks at nite. The really cool thing is just about any beer can be had in a mixed six pack for $10!!“

“Ambiance inside is somewhat old almost divey, but then the outside extended deck is freakinc awesome. Service at the bar was very good, but waitress service was horrendous. Food is very good, and pretty cheap too. Selection is huge as well and pretty cheap for Pittsburgh prices too. Overall, definitely worth a stop for good food and beer at a good price.“

“OK, I had to see this place. I haven’t been here since the old 6 and save. Small parking lot, but there is parking on the street and in a vacant lot next door. Excellent selection of beers, best prices that I have found thus far in PA. 20 rotating beers on tap. Dave the owner wasn’t there when I stopped by, so, I am going to have to make another trip. Worth the visit. I was talking to a customer there who mentioned about weekly Saturday tastings they do on the hard to find beers and hard to get beers in PA. Service was decent, atmosphere is drinking in someone’s basement, which I enjoyed. No smoking inside, and well light place.“

“Stopped here last week for some beers on the way to Seven Springs for a friend’s bachelor party. Scored some rarities like 2010 Founders Nemesis, Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA, and was sad they had the aged sours from Russian River but no Blind Pig or Pliney. Most beers were overpriced but not too bad. A few of the IPAs I bought were on the shelf for too long and were undrinkable, could’ve got more Nemesis if I only knew. Owner was super cool and they have a bar in the back with 30 beers on tap, some pretty good ones for the area. All in all this place is a score and I wish I lived closer cause the PA mountains are more relaxing than Chicago.“

“I stopped in here to check out the rarities, they had Russian River but it was expensive, when I saw the prices, I was in shock... I decided not buy any Russian River and spend my money on other rare beers I cannot get in my state. This store has a lot to choose from and it took a few minutes to look the shelves over, the guy behind the counter was helpful and directed me to the beers I was looking for, the prices at this place are higher than what Vintage Estate charges for the same beers but this place has some beers I do not see at VE and I will stop in again to check out other rarities and maybe buy one bottle of RR to see if it is worth it :)“

“All I can say is WOW! I thought Vintage Estate was great, but this place his it beat hands down. Not for the amount of beers, but the selection. They have stuff you can’t get anywhere else in PA or OH (you go see for yourself) and the bar manager was fantastic. When I was there we were the only ones in there and this guy actually knows his stuff. Too often you go to places like this and the employees have little to no knowledge of what they are selling. He pointed out all the rarities and most sought after stuff to me and engaged in some beer talk. Prices rival our OH neighbors. Will be a weekly visit“

“This place is the bom! No, I’m not kidden. I thought Vintage Estates was cool but this place meets it and is a tad cooler on the prices, no lie! Even in good old tyrant LCB controlled PA! I don’t know how he does it but there were so many beers. Six pack mixed for $10 and bunches of cool beers for a $1! Also, I was pleased to see many good bombers for $4 each. Oh yea, the tap selection is phenominal also! I’m going 100% on this place. My only prob is that it’s an hour drive to get there. However, I’m splitting my vintage estage time with this one because they are both an hour away. The help was very knowedgable and what he didn’t know he didn’t try to BS the BSer! I liked that. They even had some custon beers that were not on the market on tap from a combined belgdian effort! One of kind wew!“

“An excellent beer store/ bottle shop/ bar. The sit down bar is in the back of the building, and doesn’t have a lot of room. The fact that little if any money is spent on decorating actually increases the ambiance for a real beerfan because it keeps the emphasis on the brews. Staff are all knowledgeable as are the regulars. On my second visit, people greeted me by name. Just about anyone in the place is willing to discuss beer. Prices are reasonable for the huge bottle selection, and there are always specials on select growlerfills.“

“It was only several years ago when the notion of sampling dozens of craft brews would mean a 30 to 90 minute trip to a suburban or outskirts of Pittsburgh store. Wow have things changed. I have traveled to America’s top-rated beer store, Vintage Estate in Ohio and I’ve made frequent trips to House of a 1000 Beers (formerly Six and Save), and let me tell you hands down, I feel that House of 1000 Beers has them beat for 1) highly sought after beers, particularly the highest rated Belgiums and 2) tap beers. This place is awesome in this sense. They may not have the location, ambiance, and food of some other places, but when it comes to beer and strictly beer, this place is one of the best in the Pittsburgh area and rivals Vintage Estate. Keep up the good work guys, and keep the highly rated beers coming! If it’s a B+ or higher, not to mention in the A to A+ range, we want it.“

Selection is very good, having some things that most places in Pgh wouldnt but may also not be able to find things that you would expect them to have. Value is unbeatable of anywhere in Pgh, prices are very low and it is also located out of allegheny county so you can avoid the drink tax. Overall a very good selection at awesome prices.“

“Situated in Industrial burn-out New Ken, this is like Capone’s in Philly as its not much to look at from the inside or out. Standard store vibe, shelves and coolers. Then you find the shelves, which are organized a bit oddly but easy enough. Good selection for Pgh, similar to D’s but with a few rarities from HotD, Girardin, Cantillon that can’t be found elsewhere in Pgh. The price is what makes this worth the stop, though their $10 mix-6ers are only for the most easily obtained micros and some borderline macros. If it wasn’t for Vintage Estate, this would be a regular stop. As is, I’ll stop by again, but mainly for the price.“

“Perhaps the best kept secret beer bar in the Pittsburgh area. The place is pretty non-descript from the outside, and resides in a gritty former industrial neighborhood. Inside, it is sort of half warehouse, and have dive bar; the big difference being the ridiculous selection of beers. The classic move is to choose six beers from their sizable selection to create a $10 six-pack. More recently, they have vastly expanded their selection of harder-to-find Belgians, and more obscure craft beers, many of which I haven’t seen anywhere in western PA but there. There is also a small and gritty bar on the other side of the building. The tap selection is usually nothing short of amazing. I’ve seen St. Bernardus 12 and Wild Devil on tap. The prices for the beers are also very very reasonable; again, some of the best in the Pittsburgh metro area. I would rate this ahead of 3 Sons, as the prices outweight the latter’s small advantage in selection. Worth visiting, for sure. Upon a recent return visit, I noticed that the establishment had vastly expanded their selection, on top of what was already extremely impressive. Lost Abbey, Russian River, Hair of the Dog, New Glarus. Now easily the best bottle shop in western Pennsylvania.“

“A big thanks to Naka for letting me know about this place. Finally got to it in early summer on a Saturday. I had ambitions of stopping here and then heading further in to Pittsburgh, but once I got here and spent a good 45 minutes pouring over the selections, followed by a few pints of excellent draught IPAs ... well, it was time to head home again. Great staff! Friendly, helpful, and know their beer. The guy running it that day opened up a bottle of Karmeliet Tripel for everyone to sample for free at the bar, because they were getting a sixtel of it the next week. Just a great place to stop and stock up. Nice Belgian selection and tons of micros and imports. Wonderful draught selection, too.“

“Can’t believe there isn’t more buzz around this one. Selection isn’t quite as robust as 3 Sons or D’s in Swissvale, but probably right behind those two. Organization is great. Ambiance is hard to rate because this is set up more to be a takeout place, there’s not much in the way of it, but you can’t fault the place. Prices are very very good, especially in this area. Overall yet another beer store I wish was a lot closer to my home. Maybe not worth the extra half hour from Swissvale, but certainly not worth passing up if you are going up the turnpike.“
