52 /100 8400 OLD CHURCH ROAD An added product line at the New Kent Winery, with a wine tasting bar right next to the beer bar. Even on a weekend, they didn't offer beer flights (even though the hostess said they did). They had about 8 different taps, apparently they occasionally rotate. So 12 oz pours are your only option -- and they run $8-10! Ouch. Beers we had were OK, but ordinary, maybe even a little below average, although technically unflawed. Beautiful setting. Expensive ($32 meat & cheese board!?). Brewery #1015. |
76 /100 8400 OLD CHURCH ROAD This place is a gem and close to RVA. You pass the vineyards as you drive to the brewery. The colocated wine and beer tasting room is an advantage to appeal to both drinker styles. We had the beer. You can reserve tables ahead of your visit. Signage is poor. But go to the winery and you will find ample parking. The beers I had were above average for their style. The prices were good, but no flights. It was a Saturday in February and it was busy. |
70 /100 8400 OLD CHURCH ROAD This winery/brewery combo lies about 15 miles SW if Richmond in the countryside. Really pretty grounds, sprawling seating areas, but definitely a winery first. Great service, so-so beer. Very relaxing though. |
