74 /100 1800 LOWER BAILEY ROAD We came to this unique place, in the middle of nowhere, on 29.7.2018. A small hop field, a barn accommodating the brewhouse and the restaurant and a nice patio. Beers, roughly 10 on tap, were quite good. We tasted the Pale Ale, Stout and the IPA. Limited food menu. Chicken sandwich was good. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Highlight is the patio. Sitting outside with a view to the hop farm and the green forests and mountains is very relaxing. |
52 /100 Weis Markets (Newport) (Grocery Store) 316 WALNUT STREET Nice spot in the center of town, with a park nearby where you can walk your dog. |
80 /100 1800 LOWER BAILEY ROAD "Nestled among the hills just outside of historic Newport, Pennsylvania, River Bend Hop Farm and Brewery is housed in a century-old barn located at the bend of the Juniata River.Surrounded by wildlife and their very own hop field".
Located 3 miles, less than ten minutes from the Newport Square.
Open only a few months now, this place is already on a roll. They are newly opened, but their beer tastes seasoned and finished. The owners knew what they were doing, then they brought in an even more experienced brew-master. It shows in the quality of the beer. I tried five different beers hear in my initial visit, and all five of them were of high quality and tasted good. ( I have sampled over 400 beers in the past 12 years on Rate.beer), I am not new at this.
They serve snacks and there is a rally nice food truck set up outside, it looks- for the long run.
The folks here are very friendly and a band was setting up to play on the late Saturday afternoon when we came to visit. |
74 /100 Newport Beverage (Beer Store) NEWPORT PLAZA (NEXT TO GIANT) OFFNEWPORT EXIT OF 322 As a long time resident of Central Pennsylvania, I believe that this shop is as good as any in a 50 mile radius of Harrisburg. The staff is great, the selection wonderful, and never forget to check on the specials in the front row across from the sales counter. |
80 /100 Newport Beverage (Beer Store) NEWPORT PLAZA (NEXT TO GIANT) OFFNEWPORT EXIT OF 322 Excellent customer service and very good beer selection, particularly for such a rural area. |
80 /100 Mastracchio’s Lounge (Restaurant) 344 JUNIATA PKWY E A hidden gem on the old state road that runs alongside US Routes #22& 322.
Start with one of the generous side.
I had the Cheese Steak sub and my wife had the Speedies pork and beef cubes.
These meals were very good and very filling.
The desserts are also very good and in very generous portions.
The staff is very attentive and the beer menu is just incredible with many very nice brews in a very thoughtful variety.
They have to have one of the five best beer menus in the entire Harrisburg metro area.
