“Ended up visiting this brewery which I believe has not changed much since it opened 50 years ago. Old copper brewhouse which I think is the last one in West Africa. The brewery is open to the public but for tours only. Belgian brewer Frank gave us a lenghty tour, I admire his will to work that as the conditions to brew and the logistics are just not easy. I also admire his ptience as he literally has to be behind the local staff for everything in the brewery. Got to try the unfiltered pils which all of us found much better than the regular bottled version - it is also availabe for purchase in kegs when calling ahead. Also ended up in the brew lab and tried fresh bottles before the warm chamber - also much better product. The brewery offers a way to purchase the beer on site but via some distributor. All in all quite an experience to witness this in working conditions - even if the local market due to religious factors is not in big demand for beer.“

“Nothing special, good for visitors on business trip. Many maquis have about the same selection for 3x cheaper. Given the security risks it is almost safer to avoid these palces and go to local spots have brochettes, some friels and enjoy cold Bière Niger. On a side, the view ove rthe Niger River is better at Grand Hotel.“

“The biggest hotel in Niger. Load of security to navigate through to get to the parking. Big open patio witha pool and an amazing view on the Niger river. Went there a few times with colleagues to eat the brochettes - arm yrself with a ton of patience as waiters can’t seem to take two orders at once. They are very nice and friendly and do their best to help. Full bar, draft beers which I have yet to see working, other than that, mostly Nigerien glass bottles; got Flag, BraNiger Nice little inside store run by Petite Soeur de Jesus’ religious order and selling original Tuareg craft and local produces. Again, hard to rate, certainly not great by Euro standards, but decent for that type of setting. However, there are dozens of other spots around Niamey that offer good vibes, food and same beers but no real point adding all of them.“

Marina Market (Grocery Store)

“Likely the biggest supermarket in Niamey - Niger. Oddly enough a lot of the beers are direct imports from France, so I found Kronenbourg, Leffe hop varieties, ciders and some of the other usual suspects. Some of the other smaller markets like Azar, Cobra, etc run by Lebanese offer more Togo selections and Guinness with some Lebanese beers. Due to deposit costs, glass bottles of Nigerien beers are only found in bars which explains why most shops sell cans and mostly non Nigerien. Prices are ok, service is nice but don’t expect high quality beers advises from the staff. Hard to rate keeping in mind the country has one brewery, and a mostly mulism country so it’s a good point to get access to about 15 beers.“

“To date the best beer store in Niamey. They have both singles and cases. The cases are in their shop next door to the main Super Market. They have more beers than I have found anywhere ekse. And some I have yet to see anywhere else.“

“For Niamey, Niger it really does not get much better than this. A huge outdoor place with a grreat overview of the Niger River. Also the only place in the city that I found so far with beer on tap. The Grand Hotel has also houses a popular bar with an Amazing river view, which is especially good around sunset. Jazz and happy hour brochettes on Friday nights. The is a playground and even a petting zoo for kids. The place has seen better days but still it is very nice. There is also an indoor bar as well near the lobby. “

“For Niamey it is a top class beer bar. They had eight beers in bottles while I was there and a really nice crowd. Service is top notch. Prices are like in Europe. It is a good stop to get off the streets.“
