60 /100 300 WYLD ST. 2018-09-08. Walked into a large birthday party singing happy birthday which was disorienting and mildly exciting. Sampled a flight of beers which were okay but with some interesting unexpected flavours. Friendly servers. Woody taverny / hotel restaurant feel fits with the old photos and historic building overall impression. Beer didn't really inspire, but it's a nice venue if you are in town. |
68 /100 300 WYLD ST.
70 /100 The Raven and Republic (Restaurant) 246 1ST AVE Établissement visité le samedi 18 février à l’ouverture. Ambiance: Grand resto-bar tout en boiserie. Musique lounge en sourdine. Service: Sympathique.
64 /100 Station Tap House (Restaurant) 603 MCINTYRE EAST 16 taps, some lingering Labatt, and Molson products, bud Light, Stella, Labatt 50....but some decent craft options. Craft takes up half the taps, the rest is macro. They have a rotation tap from the local brewery (new ontario). Couple Beau’s taps, a couple Muskoka taps. They are part of the Muskoka Moonlight kettle series, which is a plus. Also a rotating tap from Stack Brewing in Sudbury. Not a bad list for a shit beer town. Food is passable, menu looks fancy, but the food is kinda hack. Service is incredibly friendly and enjoyable. I’ll be back. |
76 /100 The Raven and Republic (Restaurant) 246 1ST AVE I like this place a lot...friendly staff and clientele...really great food...and a very decent if short craftbeer list. We visited on trivia night...which made for a loud & lively but very fun evening. Music playing was enjoyable. I drank a really nice Motuka IPA among others...as well as had a great dinner. Raven & Republic is a must stop when in North Bay...just don’t miss New Ontario Brewing for the best beer in town (at least one tap of which is served at the Raven). |
60 /100 300 WYLD ST. This would have been a decent stop in North Bay had they had this brewing system a few years before New Ontario came...but now that New Ontario is in town...there are better craftbeer choices. As for food...which I didn’t try but read about and observed while there...and noting what the previous rater said as well as my local guest hosts...I’m thinking a good food and beer choice in town (being New Ontario does not serve food) would be Raven & Republic which I did eat at and drink at and really enjoyed (nice beer selection there too). Cecil’s is a decent enough place to visit if in town for an extended period...but for 1-3 days...you’ll do just fine with New Ontario, Raven, and Station Taphouse. As the previous rater notes...this is an all in one brew system...makes decent beer...but not great beer (my opinion). |
68 /100 Arugula (Restaurant) 1066 FISHER ST. A new and welcome addition to the foid scene in North Bay! The beer isnt anything to write home about. 6 taps, mostly faux craft like creemore and granville island, but there was a pleasant lager from italy i had never had before, Dolomiti. They had a pfew muskoka offerings on tap as a summer patio promotion that was nice. Make sure to check out their bottle fridge as you walk by, i caught a glimpse, and was able to enjoy a La Vache Folle Imperial Milk Stout! They specialize in authentic pizza from Italy, and the incredible wood oven doesnt dissapoint. The pizza is fantastic, and the service is excellent, i will be going back. If you can sit on the screened in patio at the back, it over hangs the chippewa creek, you can enjoy a beersitting over the creek and enjoy the scenery. |
64 /100 The Raven and Republic (Restaurant) 246 1ST AVE 16 taps of mostly local craft beer, some offerings from lake of bays, stack out of sudbury, and some muskoka beers. There odd macro offering too from granville island and a few from mill street. The food is a little above chain restaurant, its decent, but nothing to write home about. Service is good, and they have live music most fridays and saturdays. Probably the best beer selection in north bay, but that doesnt mean much. |
52 /100 Moose's Cookhouse (Restaurant) 134 MAIN STREET EAST Typical college wing and drunk house. I the wings are really quite good, but and they have more sauces and combinations that you could imagine, 101 to be exact. The beer is Molson dominated, and but has a selection of Molson more crafts sentric offerings. A nice place for a pint and some wings after work. Avoid like the plague on a Friday or Saturday night during the school year. The place will be mobbed with students looking for $3 tall boys of budweiser. |
56 /100 300 WYLD ST. Nothing special. The best beer i think is the sam adams. The food is boxed stuff from a local distributor, just run of the mill deep fried pub food. The sevice is good, but not very knowledgable about beer. The prices are ok, in a beer wasteland like orth bay, its a decent stop. Edited. Place has gotten better. Food is still the same old crap, but they now brew their own beer out of a DME brewing system. Beers seem to be home brew kits just on a much bigger scale, but they are decent. North bay is still a beer wasteland, this is welcome. |
50 /100 The Crown and Beaver (Restaurant) 786 LAKESHORE DRIVE Probably the best place in town for beer, pretty sad. Delirium tremens is quite the find in this area of the province. A nice atmosphere, nice decor. Friendly staff, lunch menu is pretty boring, but the dinner menu is a little more adventurous, and interesting. |
