“Initially I thought that this was quite a small bar for the chain of Wetherspoons, not realising how far it goes back. Handily placed on Old Street, I must have walked past it a few times. Pretty rapid on the service front, nicely clean, seems to have quite a few locals in.“

“My 2nd visit here, No longer any brewing here but still a excellent pub to visit. Now under this landlord it has solid choices of around 18 keg & cask beers. Tasty food even on a Sunday evening“

“Old school boozer with a young and rowdy crowd on a Saturday night, but ultimately what it comes down to is really great cask beer and this had a decent range (inc. Oakham Cutra, Aspach & Hobday Ordinary Bitter) and it was in really great condition. If you want decent ambiance and good beer this hits the spot... if you're looking for a quiet corner and a quiet pint then maybe not!“

“So when this opened I heard this was a hub of rare Czech beers… they even had an untapped live update feed on their screen showing latest rates for their beers. Alas something has happened… beer menu has become formulaic Czech beers, Budweiser etc, stripped down food menu which is underwhelming. I won’t be becoming back. Opened for beer nerds, no caters to the Czech theme pub crowd. FYI came in and stood around for 10 mins until staff appeared from downstairs. This place will be gone in 12 months if it doesn’t shape up“

“Had an OK visit on a Saturday early evening. Was moderately busy. We had table service but not sure if that is the only option. The selection is pretty decent but they didn't have anything Czech that isn't/hasn't been available elsewhere in the UK - I was hoping they might have some more obscure offerings. (But I should say, for anyone who doesn't seek out Czech beer, I am sure you will find the selection impressive.) Prices seem about average. The server messed up my order and brought two pints instead of two HALF pints. Has a somewhat sterile ambiance. I will definitely return to give it another shot but I was a little underwhelmed on my first visit.“

“Popped in here after leaving the Old Fountain, not sure if they have had a refit, but the bar is now in the right hand side. Good to see quite unusual Czech brewers on sale over here. It's quite smart and foodie but there is plenty of room for purely beer drinkers during the day. Lacks the atmosphere of the real Czech bars but well worth a look.“

“Typical Spoons a few minutes walk from Old St roundabout. Typical that the pump clips were all facing the punter but not all of the beers were on (wtf do Spoons do this? Grrrr). Unknown quantities of cask on plus a couple of Windsor & Etons beers on keg. We had a swift one and buggered off elsewhere“

“Smart bar, nice beers. Odd service. Despite being well past 'freedom day' it was table service. I was directed to a bench outside and then waited ages to be served. When the beer came it was good. I then had to wait ages to catch the servers eye in order to pay. So much for a couple of quick beers. I will probably give it another try sometime though!“

“Visited 31/07. Hmm... was a bit unsure about this place. It seems to consist of two shop units. The bar is in the right hand unit, with most of the seating being in the right hand unit which is accessed via an archway. That seemed to cut the atmosphere in half. It's also pretty smart inside. A maitre'd stood at a lectern. So made a scruff like me feel out of place. Can't complain about the beers - full array of traditional Czech brews plus modern styles. I believe the cider was the only non-Czech offering. There are also well stocked fridges but no bottle list. The waitress directed me to the website to see what was available but I couldn't get the to work. So I asked the maitre'd who then told me I shouldn't use the website. Anyway he then directed me to the Polotmavý selection - my main reason for coming here. They do Czech food so although I was not 100% over the place I would come back to try that... ane would be a good place to come with a group. My main issue was that I had to wait a while for a bus back to Waterloo and just before it arrived my phone rang... the bus then appeared as I was answering it so went past without stopping.“

“Man this place was amazing, food was GREAT, but the reason its here is its small but good Sake by the glass list. Probably not worth a massive detour, but next to a draft house and the Old Fountain its a great extra stop on a crawl. Kids ok. This was the crawl highlight of the weekend for me“

“I was meeting a few people here and one of them rang up to make sure she was in the right place. I confirmed that we were just coming out of the Tube Station and the response was, "I don't want to go in on my own." As I arrived I couldn't blame my friend - it's like they've intentionally made it look as run down and potentially not even open any more. Once you step inside it's bustling and and old pub but more rustic than the exterior. Just as I spotted that there were only 4 hand pumps a waiter asked if we were eating and then pointed us to the back for more beers. The array of beers was decent enough -although I was unlucky due to a few ticks being on. I settled for a couple of Orbit beers which seemed be popular. The barman was very friendly and I had a chat as he was also their brewer. We found a table for 5 and the issue was then that my mates would have been happy to sit there all afternoon so had to gee them on to the next bar.“

“Grand bar à l'ambiance assez typique. Vaste choix de bières craft, aussi bien anglaises qu'internationales. 4 bières sont disponibles au format cask, ce qui est toujours cool quand on souhaite découvrir le genre ou entretenir la tradition. L'ambiance du bar est plutôt chaleureuse, même si les 2 serveurs n'ont pas l'air très agréables. Sympa.“

“A nice old traditional English pub with a really nice tap and cask selection. Claim to be a Brew Pub….but no one available said the bartender. But when I looked at the menu….well they did have one. Probably not brewed there. Anyway they did really have a solid tap selection. Lots of goodies No problem to pop in here next time also 15 min walk from Liverpool Street Station“

“My second visit. Previous visit a couple of years ago was when it wasn't a brewpub. On this visit 15/11/2017 turned out none of their brews were on and staff didn't know when the brewer planned to start brewing again. So that aside, it's a decent pub with a pretty good selection of beers, but quite expensive (£5.50 for a pint of Orbit Neu). Pub is quite spacious in the main split bar area, highlight though is its roof terrace which is lovely though can get very busy (as in fact was the whole pub on this Wednesday evening visit).“

“Fairly nice JDW pub in Old Street, near St. Luke's (LSO) and Old Street Underground Station. The cask ales were mostly the usual suspects. I had Truman's Swift, fair enough. Did not eat, but they have the full JDW menu.“

“Facing south towards Moorgate, just where the road forks, as such it’s in a triangular shaped building with the square bar in the rear part of its centre. It’s quite a striking room mainly for its multi-paned windows on three sides. Its relaxed atmosphere inside adds to the ambiance of the rooms styling with traditional pub and restaurant furniture in here. Craft keg dominates over cask, but both are available with some decent offerings available in the former.“

“A nice Wetherspoon pub in short walking distance from my hotel room, very practical as I love to have my breakfast at a pub when staying in England. Big and spacious, seems to be a popular place for some local constructors to pop in for a breakfast and a quick meal. Service where good and friendly. Food selection and price is the standard Wetherspoon range, and beer selection is quite good. In addition to the regular euro lagers and a handful of local London casks there is also a decent selection of bottle beer. Visited four times during my four days stay in the area.“

“I am sure I rated this years ago... anyway selection has got even better lately. Usually 7 or 8 real ales and about a dozen craft kegs. Usually a good selection of styles and strengths. Only downside is food has got posh and £££ so cant have a roast beef and horseradish or cheese and onion sandwich which were quality and good value. Can at times be a victim of its own success with overcrowding especially weekday evenings.“

“Visited the 29th September 2016 - Near to Old street and in front of Draft House. When you arrive this place looks like an old fashion pub. Inside, nice deco and good atmosphere with wooden floor. Clear and clean. Beer selection is nice with some cask and good range selection on tap from Peroni to Kernel. You can enjoy your drink outside but you won’t find a table or on the roof terrace (very busy). Staff is ok. Cuisine looks nice.“

“Visited on 22nd June 2016. Nice old pub just off Old St. It has two bars and the split across the middle of the pub is a step. It’s got plenty of wood and is quite dark. Is popular for food and is known for the salt beef sandwiches. A good range of beer with a good mix of cask and keg, including a couple from the USA. Beer is well kept and is a good range, maybe not super daring but good enough. I noticed a palate of malt outside and asked the staff. They are starting to brew so expect their own beers on some time soon. Nice pub, worth a look in, especially as a few good places nearby.“

“Visited the 26th April 2016 - Huge pub in front of the Finsbury Square. Nice and modern spot. Staff is friendly and service is smart. The selection is very nice with 4 casks and 20 taps. I appreciate to see the Cloudwater dIPA v3 when I was there. I didn’t check the food but it looks correct. One bad point, the noise... Price is correct for the central area.“

“Half way between Finsbury Square and Old Street, a large premise in the city (I dread to think what the rent is!) Visited mid afternoon so nice and quiet. Staff confirmed is sister to the Three Johns in Islington (I recognised the menus). Four cask real ales from microbreweries, the Charnwood Old School was fine. Also has 2 banks of kegs (some key-keg) approx 20 taps with all sorts of beers from all over the world. Worth a visit if in the area.“

“A long, narrow, standard Wetherspoon pub close to the Old Street roundabout. It looks as if it might have the original ‘spoon fittings and is surely ready for an update. The beer range was good - after a day seeking out festival beers this was our last stop and we still managed to find four new ones. (Visited 26 March 2015).“

“Spring 2015 opening from the barworks group (see also Earl of Essex, Well & Bucket et al). Visited on Friday 27/03/15 around 5.30pm and the place was heaving, 3 or 4 deep at the bar and a little slow in terms of clearing the after work crush - need more staff! Crowd was youngish city worker types, swigging Camden Helles and largely ignoring more of the interesting tap choices which included a couple of Beavertown offerings, Lagunitas IPA, something from Omnipollo and more to boot. Large single room venue (unless there was another level I didn’t clock?) with a mish mash of furniture. A decent selection of beers but nothing the ardent ticker will likely find new scoops amongst. Not a go to venue but worth popping in if in the area, but maybe not during the after work rush!“

“Stumbled in here in a jetlagged haze one morning last week. Unsurprisingly, it was just me and a couple of old men that had the inspired idea to drink at 9am on a weekday. Pretty typical ’spoonies ambiance and layout; perhaps a bit less dingy thanks to the wall of windows. There were roughly 8 beers on cask. I tried a couple of Christmas seasonals that were well-conditioned but still tasted acceptable at best. Prices were solid considering the very central location. Service was jarringly cheery. Not a showstopper of a spoons, but it’s a solid option if you’re in the area and the Old Fountain etc are closed.“

“Pretty nice little local pub located in Old street, yo don’t really find places like this this deep int he city anymore. Typical local pub atmosphere with typical pub furnishing and etc, but the beer selection here is pretty damn good. They had some nice casks by thornbridge when I went in and some kegs by sirenw siren, beer is dispensed well and very fresh. Bottle selection was very limited but the draft list made up for it. Overall I really enjoyed my visit here and was very relaxed with very pleasant staff.“

“Visited around 5.30pm during the Spring beer fest ’14. At least 6 fest beers available so a semi instant thumbs up! The young girl from Europe manning my section of the bar clearly hadnt been briefed on the fest, so it seems. After a brief conversation with a supervisor she promptly took my CAMRA 50p off voucher and presented me with 3x HALF pints for £2.40!!! Many thanks! The place in terms of decor is classic late 90’s Spoons occupying a corner plot a few.blocks from Old Street tube and the Old Fountain. Not much in the way of natural light, although better than others, TMH assumes the air of a classic Spooneria in terms of clientele - typical ’earthy’ Spoons, ie mostly on the Lager Lager Lager but no edge of uncertainty here! Not a go to spoons but if you’re in the area worth stopping by for a few ticks.“

“Met Theydon here for a drink. Very good selection of London micro’s and just general UK craft - Kernel, Brodie’s, Camden, Magic Rock .etc. incuding a small but decent bottled selection - Partizan, To Ol, Sierra Nevada, Founders .etc.. Service is efficient and friendly. Plenty of space while I was here. Can get a little crowded at the bar though. Good place and fairly central“

“Visited this place several times. One of the nicer Wetherspoons I have visited. Spacy, clean pub, with a friendly staff. Especially during the day most of the customers are retired people having a beer, reading the newspaper og watching TV :-). The food and deco is the well known JDW concept. Beers are mostly served in a good condition, and with a nice variaty. When JDW do their festivals they serve in 1/3 pints which is nice.“

“We visited here yesterday Sunday 31st March 2013, just me and Loz. I have to say that the beer range was mightily impressive I started off with a Magic Rock Salty Kiss, Loz had a new Micro from Canterbury Alpha? something. Mine was very unusual for Magic Rock but very enjoyable all the same, Loz’s was fine but there was a little butteryness. The crowd near us were clearly having a good time, but they were a bit raucous and clearly into both Pink Floyd and Sci Fi in a big way, but they were having a good time and looked like they were on a mission to get through as many at this beer festival as they could. Both barmen we spoke to were very friendly & helpful with suggestions they let Loz try mini samples of one or two before she finally settled on her choice. The cask beers were not as good as I would have liked, we had Oakham Tranquility IPA and Marble Green ’something’ IPA both were fine but I got the impression that they were a little past their best in terms of freshness. The pub is easy enough to find and sits down a little back street off a very busy roundabout not far from Old Street station. Inside I thought it was a little like the ’Bat Cave’ i.e. a bit dark and gloomy, there were two seating areas the lower area as you enter the pub which was a bit brighter and you went up a step into the other area which was near the main serving bar area which was to the left hand side as you enter the pub. There were a number of cask offerings (Beer Festival after all) which were on gravity at the rear of the pub just beyond the bar. The pub was a fairly down to earth place, nothing showy or fancy, selection as mentioned was great and it was friendly. Would probably go back to if in the area.“

“The atmosphere and decor isn’t particularity amazing, it lacks the old school appeal of the nearby Wenlock Arms for instance. The refurb is a bit characterless. However the beer selection is excellent, with lots of ales and Kernel beers amongst others for bottles. Food is hearty and good, simple. Often fairly busy, a good pub for a drink after work.“

“A short walk west of the Old Street tube exit, this Wetherspoon pub with a preference for darker wood paneling occupies the ground floor of building on the corner of Bunhill Row. Despite a full window against the exterior of two sides it still manages to appear dark but cosy inside with dim lighting. It’s split level towards the back and carpeted throughout. It may have a makeshift area to sit outside in if the weather allows.“

“Most recent visit - Thursday 21st Feb ’12 around 3.30 pm. Exit 8 from Old Street tube/WAGN. Single roomed boozer, medium in size, split over 2 levels (not much of a split mind!). I was surprised how busy it was for the time of day - some 20 or so drinkers, largely a local kind of crowd drinking macro lager. Good range of beers on both cask and tap with offerings from various regional brewers from Shropshire to West Yorkshire on cask, keg beers from Kernel and Magic Rock. Service was good. Well worth dropping in!“

“Tucked away around the corner from Moorfileds Eye Hospital - a characterful old boozer. Beer is usually in good nick and there is always a reasonable selection. The senior staff are excellent but there are one or two young part timers who could do with a kick to get them moving sometimes. My only real bug bear here is bar stools - there are way to many of them and when it gets busy it’s really hard to get to the bar and even harder to see what is on. I do use them when it’s quiet but always to the side of the bar away from the pumps and tills. All in all a great boozer and a semi regular for me.“

“A mix of a traditional and modern British pub promoting an open, airy and clean atmosphere. A freehouse with a good and varied selection of ales on cask, keg and bottles. Well kept cask ales from breweries like Blue Monkey, Raw, Magic Rock, and Dark Star, among others, and bottles from local London breweries. Split room with two entrances to Peerless and Baldwin streets. Friendly service. Close to the Old Street tube. Cool and relaxing on a Monday afternoon (visited,05.11.2012).“

“The Old Fountain’s a nice boozer located in a pretty good part of town for pubs. The decor’s a bit tired, but the quality of beer more than makes up for it. I visited during a mini festival, and was most impressed by the beers they had on offer (Kernel, Oakham, Magic Rock etc). The bottle selection was pretty solid. The food’s OK, and served at a pretty cheap price. Overall, I’ll definitely be back. It’s open on weekends now, too.“

“Visited on a Friday night. It is located just off Old Street. The place is pretty typical English pub (aquarium aside) in furniture. Looks like the typical pub that noticed the craft beer evolution in this country and decided to embrace it somehow. Some nice pumps of English craft. Good value as well. Not a great service at all I must admit (do they hate Italians for some reason maybe?).“

“Another place I finally got round to visiting (mostly because it doesn’t open at weekends). It is located just off Old Street, adjacent to a housing estate. A great balance between traditional boozer and a good contemporary beer selection. The focus is clearly on micro UK breweries. Quite an extensive selection of both keg and cask, with the likes of Magic Rock, Dark Star, Fyne, Camden Town and Windsor & Eaton on at my last visit. A great place to come for a wide range of Kernel in bottle (about 8/9). Good value traditional pub grub also on offer. The fact they have a fish tank there is a bonus. All-round great pub, its just a shame they don’t open at weekends.“
