“A wonderfully charming pub with good beers, excellent food and all sorts of local events (folk music the night we were there). Something very rustic and old-world about it. Quite unique in NZ.“

“Located on what is the main road in a very rural location, this brewpub is set back in the woods in a tranquil, woodsy setting. Inside, in addition to a number of tables and a small bar at which one places their order, is a stage with sound equipment that indicates the "inn" is not always quiet and tranquil. Only Mussel Inn beers are available here, with about 6 on tap and a few others in bottles. Some food of various types is available. Both the foods and the beers are more imaginative than a typical brewpub. Some nice covered, partially covered, and open options for outside seating. Well worth the stop if in the area.“

“There’s a lot to like about this place, notwithstanding the fact that it is the only brewer in the land of my nativity in Golden Bay. A particular idiosyncratic attraction is the powerpole that has been completely covered in cellphones that have been nailed there. Full marks for ambience because most of the peaceful country attraction has been provided by God. Obviously a full selection of its own brews. Service was a little strained, but then it ought to have been because there was a wedding party there. A definite must return.“

“Visited in March 2009. This place is a must-go if you are in the Golden Bay area and the manuka beer is a must try when you are there. Very rustic place and very cosy. They have table tenns tournaments some nights, which is great fun!“

“Quite out of the way, but worth the trip if you can make it. We stayed in the Golden Bay area, about 20 minutes away from this place, and came here for dinner. The mussel chowder is phenomenal, and the kids were very happy with their bowls of "saussies". There are 3 beers on tap as standard offer (Captain Cooker, Dark Horse, and Golden Goose), plus a seasonal (currently Easter Bunny). There are also about 6 or 8 more available in bottles, and these change regularly according to the brewers whim. They are not licensed to sell the bottles for take away, and wouldn’t anyway because they re-use all their bottles. The place has a beautiful huge park-like outdoor area and a rustic homey one-room cabin feel to the interior. Decorated with humorous pub decor, and heated by a huge wood fire, this place is super cozy. The beers are all superb, with several being truly outstanding. Worth the trip? Definitely!“
