78 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Really small store next to the highway.
Surprising selection of beers. |
80 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 This place is best described as a shack just off of US 20 near Chesteron. What they lack in roadside appeal they make up for in excellent beer selection. Their strength is local and regional breweries with good stocks of FFF, Greenbush, 18th St, and others including some hard-to-find bottles. They also have a decent selection of US brews from outside the Midwest. They are a little weak on foeign beer with Belgian being their best non-US offerings, and I was actually a little dissapointed in the absence of much German beer. The real standout aspect of this place though is the fact that they let you assemble your own 6er from any beer in the store. |
76 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 kind of a hidden spot east of chicago. decent selection for a fairy small sized store. limited selection of singles, buti was able to find quite a few interesting thing unavailable in Michigan. |
78 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Small place with a decent beer selection, including plenty of FFF. Good prices. Very friendly and helpful proprietor. Worth a stop. |
38 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 This use to be a great place to go. There is this B I G fat kid working there, about 16 years old and weighing 4,000 lbs. anyway, he is rude and talks dirty to young girls-asking "what color panties they have on"? Sick. The prices are outrageous-but everything is going up and the service and quality are droping like flies. Take care. N |
70 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 A small, unassuming store that, from the outside, could be easily mistaken for just another roadside beer shop selling nothing to the left of Bud Light. Once inside, however, you’ll discover the best selection of domestic craft beers in the Chesterton/ Porter/ Portage area, and at very reasonable prices. Be sure to check out the rack of singles selling for a buck apiece. |
84 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Very small unsuspecting store, Pulled in here and turned out it was an interesting place. They manage to fit a lot of beer in a small space. They had offerings of FFF, H of D, the bruery and other interesting brews, Enjoyable stop, worth a look if your going by, friendly staff as well. |
92 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Totally unassuming place. Best beer selection in the area. Great staff. They know beer. Great value too. |
100 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Beer nirvana |
88 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Pretty much the last stop in NW Indiana for good beer. Owner is great and very knowledgeable. Good selection. Small place, but impressive considering other liquor stores in the area. |
86 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 great little out of the way revelation in Porter, IN, just a mile or so from the Indiana Dunes! strong micro/craft and organic selection partnered with plenty of the cheap populist swill. the palpable hippie ambience echoes throughout. the prices are a bit high but I understand. My main complaint is actually the fairly weak wine selection. but since this is RATEBEER, this does not figure in to my ratings! |
90 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Easy to get to just off of i-94. Built by own 6-pack and picked up some beer geek breakfast stout, Pat recomended a porter and I bought it. Nice place, will go back again . |
72 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Stopped in the other day as I was bombing down I-94. Fairly easy to get to from the interstate, not hard to find. Stepping in the door, I immediately was struck by the cluttered ski lodge look to things. I was only in to pick up some Three Floyds, so I did only a cursory glance at the rest of the stuff, but it looks pretty decent to me. Staff asked if I was finding everything OK, and then if I really liked beer or something like that. Nice enough place, and may be a staple now that FFF has limited their distribution. |
86 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Just a short jaunt off the freeway, this little place on the corner was an unexpected find on my trip. The store itself is tiny, but there’s beer to be had everywhere, and a lot of good beer at that. Mix them up, if you like, with no upcharge. That’s the way I like it. There were some beers here I had never seen before – I wish I would have written them down. I couldn’t believe how busy this place was. Decent selection of Indiana and regional beers, even a discount section with one dollar a bottle offerings. Cashier was friendly to everyone and helpful. A must stop if in the area. |
100 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Best little liquor store in the world, but shane is gay! |
78 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Thanks to the bartender from iShoreline/I for pointing out this place to us. Didn’t catch the two ladies’ names who were helping us, but they were both knowledgeable and nice. The cheapest I’d ever seen GI BCS$16.99/4pack! Had a fair amount of 3F, Back Road, Bells, and Stone. There were also some others. I don’t recall seeing much for imports, so did I somehow miss this? The store (outside and inside) made me think of an old backwoods cabin-like bait shop. We were able to break up six-packs, and they even had a $1 a beer section, which she warned us isn’t always the best idearegardless, I picked out six new beerswe’ll see if they’re in good enough shape to rate. Highly recommended if you’re anywhere near Shoreline Brewing in Michigan City. |
76 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 I would have given the best little liquor store in Porter, IN close to a perfect, but Santa depleted her stock a little bit....I bet there are alot of happy beer-happy elves running around because of that fact! Lizzie has alot of information that can help everyone out no matter what their situation..she also gets crazy when you asked for something that is not available to her or Indiana at this writing..she will always try her best to get anything for you. She whould be a distributor and the little Midwest state of Indiana would be better served! Thanks Lizzie for the beer and the yummy nights of taste testing with all of my goodies I get at your store everytime I stop. My visa loves the place..see you soon |
72 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 A tiny, unasumming beer store in the middle of nowhere. Doesn’t look like much, but the micro/import selection is fantastic(DFH, Mikkeler, Cantillion, also lots of local such as BackRoad and FFF). The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Definately worth a stop if you are in the area. |
86 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 This is a great store for the Porter/Chesterton area. Back Road Brews, Three Floyds, Bell’s, and others, including tons of imports. Home of Lizzie, the self-appointed beer geek. She is great! |
80 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 This is a small shop, but they have a splendid selection of beers not available in the Chicago area. Best yet, they allow you to break up sixers, a nice touch for folk llike me who want some of Everything. The staff is friendly and helpful, even to the point of getting you the best deal on your purchases. This makes a great stop between the Chicago region and the Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City. I’ll be back. |
92 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 great little place. they have a large selection of off the wall beers and ales. They also let you mix and make up your own 6-pack from any beer they have. Very friendly and helpful. I try to stop in there once a week.
Large selection of wine also.
p.s. I’m one of the mill guys turning into
a beer snob. |
94 /100 Pat’s Liquors (Beer Store) 1 W US HIGHWAY 20 Home to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the town of Porter also hosts one of the best-kept secrets in NW Indiana – Pat’s Liquors.
I have to admit, I was hesitant to enter this particular place in the database, because I wanted it all to myself. I didn’t want anybody to know Pat’s Liquors holds my own (and JoeM500’s, haha) private stash of Founder’s Breakfast Stout, Devil Dancer IPA, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, and Stone 9th Anniversary Ale. In general, there is always a plentiful supply of Founder’s and Bell’s offerings, along with Rogue, Three Floyds, Upland, Stone, a numerous supply of Indiana brews, and copious imports. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and Lizzie usually knows the availability or upcoming availability of any beer.
Pat’s Liquors also sells a fine selection of proper glassware (at this writing, their supply has been depleted due to the holidays), and cool wearables such as t-shirts and hoodies (Hey, I love hoodies, what can I say???). Pat’s Liquors is also my hot spot for Godiva and Starbucks Liquor. The customer base is an interesting mix of mill guys stopping in for their 40s, white-collar types perusing the scotch selections, and the occasional beer snob.
Parking can be crowded on the weekends; use the empty lot across the street.
