“This place definitely has a bit of a dive bar feel to it, which is welcomed in this touristy polished area. A large open space with a bar at one end. Some pool tables and not a lot else. Plenty of fried food can be found here. It’s right on the waterfront with many windows looking over the marina. A narrow but long outdoor deck above the water, too. A solid list of brews on tap. Worth a stop if spending time on the Poulsbo strip and in need of something a little less tourist-centric.“

“This is a fairly typical brewery taproom. Has a nice long bar, good indoor seating options, a nice sized outdoor patio and plenty of Rainy Daze beer. I snagged a flight while my wife had the guest cider. You get a good view of the brewery setup just off to the left of the bar. Service was friendly and quick. A very nice stop to try some of their beers. Will be making my way back here anytime I’m up in Poulsbo.“

“A very large space between the main drag in Poulsbo and the waterfront. Plenty of seating and a decent size stage for the many live acts they have come through. A good number of their brews on tap with a couple guests, as well. Service was friendly and quick. I initially got their kolsch, but it was very off and took it back. They were apologetic and swapped out a different beer without hesitation, so they definitely get bonus points there. Their beers are all a bit weird, and that is there thing- so good for them. The Rhubarb IPA was decent but I enjoyed the dandelion bitter the most. A nice stop.“

“Small taproom up the hill from the main tourist strip in Poulsbo. A brewery tour group was there when I was so it was packed and loud but still a fun time. The beers are generally standard styles but fairly well done. They make a couple very enjoyable porters. The inside feels a bit like a lodge, carved wood and Viking elements throughout. Service was quick and friendly. They seem to have a guest cider tap on, which my wife greatly enjoyed. Simple, easy going establishment with good beer. Worth a stop in Poulsbo.“

“Small tap room for a small brewery. The beers are unrefined, but the service very laid back and the locals are friendly. Nice place for a pint or two.“

“The Viking theme has historical merit in the Kitsap area, and the scenery and ambiance are Scandinavian in nature too. I thought the beers here were solid. The taproom is small, but while locals do seem to flock here for socializing. I would too if I lived here. It’s one of those places where the bartenders know everyone and drink with the people too. They serve the BEST local shell-roasted peanuts, from CBs, for $1.“

High Spirits (Beer Store)
19880 7TH AVE NE
“High Spirits is a pretty standard looking booze store. It’s mostly hard liquor and a fair amount of wine. The back wall is partial taken up with beer coolers, though. It features a well-curated but slightly smaller selection of craft beer. They have the pretty standard selection of readily available craft beers but also a healthy portion of bottles I haven’t seen anywhere on the peninsula. The selection isn’t as big as the nearby Marina Market, but they do have a varied enough selection to make it worth a stop. The help the day I was there had some good info on the beers they stock. For the most part, prices were average for the area, but on some of the harder to find bottles they were a couple bucks cheaper than stores in the region. Overall, worth a stop if in the area. Small but good selection and can be cheaper than other stores around.“

“A pretty decent selection for a grocery store. Lots of regional six packs in the cooler. A fair selection of fall seasonal brews. A couple shelves of imports. Sizable cider selection. Nothing special, really. A bit pricier than area grocery stores. Go to SafeWay first and you’ll get a similar selection for a couple bucks less per sixer.“

Marina Market (Grocery Store)

“A pretty small and cramped convenience type store that mostly offered scandinavian goods. The back wall is made up of cooler, 90% filled with craft beer. Some chilled sixers of the BMC variety but a lot of local and regional stuff. Most of the coolers are taken up with bombers of good beer. Regional, local, European (German, Belgian mostly). Outside of the coolers are even more Belgian and craft bottles. A decent helping of British brews, too. They have a lot of seasonal stuff (pumpkin and Oktoberfest stuff right now) and some rare varieties (Silver City barrel aged stuff I haven’t found elsewhere). They have a fairly large mead selection, too. Prices are reasonable. Probably the best beer store in the area- maybe not the biggest (some grocery stores have larger selections) but by far the best overall selection.“

“I don’t know how this place stays in business. The interior is pretty huge and has a large stage for bands to play. 10 house beers on tap, almost all of which were terribly infected and completely undrinkable. What’s more insulting is that our taster tray of all 10 was $25. A huge ripoff for terrible beer. How anyone can drink this stuff is beyond me. The service is friendly and the place itself is comfortable, but they don’t make up for the beer quality in my books. Let’s hope they fix their infections and/or hire a brewery who knows what he’s doing.“

“Pretty compact little bar at the top of a hill, with 11 house beers on tap when I visited. Cheap flights available and very friendly, personable service. Beer quality was decent, with a few standouts. The second best brewery in town I’d say. Worth a stop when in Poulsbo.“

“A cool little spot right in downtown Poulsbo. A large space with a stage (karaoke during my visit), plenty of seating, foosball, darts and the bar off to the side. Plenty of pig related decor. Service was a bit slow and they seemed a bit disorganized. Had about ten of their own beers plus some guest taps and samplers available. Prices were good and I did not try the food on my visit. A pretty cool spot.“

“A small Viking style tap room with a beautiful view out over the bay. Only a few tables and a very small bar. I visited on the towns 4th of July celebration so the place was hopping but service was quick. Probably about 15 taps available, and a cask as well. Samplers usually available but not on my visit due to the crowd. Prices are good and no food available. A cool little spot.“

“A hodge podge of style catering to a large stage and venue like atmosphere. Right on the water, but you wouldn’t really know inside. Service is good if the brewer is about, but not so good with anyone else. Selection is huge and they do tasters, but the beer is barely drinkable. I would give this place a miss, unless you are looking for ticks.“

“A very nice building just off the water with lots of parking available. Service was provided by the owners wife and was fun and flirty with a nice knowledge of her beers. Clientele is mostly local and lots of military. Older crowd with dirty minds. Prices were made up on the spot for an entire board tasting and was very cheap. Beer is all over the map quality wise, but the good was pretty good. Although not a must stop, it is nice and if you are going downtown, worth while.“

“This is a review of the website and mail order service only: The website was kept accurate and up to date. My only complaint was the if I did a detailed look at a brew it would go back to the beginning of the beer listing. Customer service was very good, timely information and e-mails with order and shipping info. I would order from them again.“

“Really neat little place with great beer. It’s pretty small--about eight picnic tables and a bar with a half-dozen stools. Service was good--just walk up to the bar and order. I met the lead brewer and he showed me around the brewery--really nice guy. They don’t have a kitchen, but smoked salmon and peanuts are available. The beer here is not only outstanding, but they have a lot to sample--when I visited, 15 different beers were available.“

“Visiting from Minnesota. Had such a good time, we had to like them on FB. Reminds me of a place in Wisconsin, called Dave’s Brew Farm. Its all about a brewer who is passionate about his craft, and doesn’t give a shit about making massive amounts of money and getting overly commercialized. I respect that tremendously. Ambience is off the chart. Especially if you are visiting from out of town. You become one of the family, and it feels like a cross between a high school drink fest in a farmers field and a Texas barn dance. It really is a magical place, I highly recommend!“

“Man, this is a place that’s flying its own flag and is so much the better for it. You drive up the hill and out of downtown Poulsbo, up a dirt road, then wind through a dirt driveway until you get there. You’re going to someone’s house, and that’s exactly what it feels like. You pull up and you’re in the gravel or the mud, depending on how early you get there. There are pigs. There are chickens. You wander over to the open-sided shed area, and beers are pouring from a mostly-enclosed bar there. They keep the wind and rain out with tarps in the winter, and they have lots of free-standing propane heat lamps (lots of free-standing propane tanks waiting to be refilled, too). The beers here are overwhelmingly adjunct beers--they add plum, rhubarb, dandelion, pumpkin, or other unexpected ingredients almost every batch. They do weird things with yeast, and I can remember looking at the tap list one day last year and every beer seemed like it was over 8%. So you’re going to taste things here you’ve never tasted anywhere else. Mostly, this is awesome, but it’s very experimental, so some things may come out wildly sweet or otherwise not something you’d drink a pitcher of. But that’s so cool. There were murmurs among those at the bar of a pig roast in the near future, and they were rolling the brew system away on portable racks when we were here. This is good fun down home hanging out, Puget Sound style, at its very finest. I will definitely be back to the Pig.“

“his review is for the new location on 3rd Street, behind the main Poulsbo tourist drag. The building here is so, so cool. It’s a classic mid-century modern structure with interesting post and beam construction. Some of the beams are purely decorative, but the structural elements across the ceiling are really cool. There’s a big heavy new door made to look like a rough-hewn piece appropriate for a Viking longhouse with big heavy iron hinges, and inside there’s a bunch of reclaimed second-use clear cedar nailed to the walls for paneling. It’s gorgeous inside, in a very mixed contemporary way. So cool. There’s a tasting room, a bar, a couple of heads, and then down a hall is the production brewery. You can clearly see, hear, and smell the brewing and cleaning as it happens. The staff and regulars here are very laid back and friendly. The place filled up in no time when we were here, and everyone seemed to know each other. Felt like a house party. Unfortunately, every beer we tried had significant flaws, but as they gain experience, most likely they’ll eliminate most if not all of these. Still, despite the quality of the beer, I can’t help but recommend this place. You have to stop in for at least one beer if you’re on the strip in Poulsbo, and if you’re making the big Poulsbo beer run (Slippery Pig, Sound, Valholl), then it’s a given that ya gotta get in here. Skål!“

“Okay - now this place is cool. Down a long private driveway/gravel road, you find yourself driving into a sort of Mad Max meets orchard sort of place. A couple of small barnlike building and a roughed in roof covering an open patio. Furnished with simple mismathced wooden chairs that are spray painted to make a set, this place feels like your crazy uncle’s backyard. Except, did I mention that your crazy uncle brews beer with all the weirdness growing on his farm? They try to get their own ingredients into the beer and they do a good job of it. Even a non-alcoholic house brewed blackberry soda kn tap (much enjoyed by my pregnant wife). Friendly folks staffing the outdoor bar. It feels like a bar transported from a Caribbean Island to the Pacific Northwest. Awesome, awesome spot. A must see for any beer lover.“

“A true garage brewery but with permits! Love their anise IPA, stout, and strong ale. Relaxed atmosphere and nice crew. You can’t get more Northwest small batch than this! CHeck it out before they move to a new location.“

“Great people serving their own beers plus other local brews, all on a farm. The taps come out of the wall of a barn building. Great place for events too, due to a LOT of open space. What I love about Slippery Pig is that they brew beers that contain ingredients grown right there on the farm. Awesome!“

“Great selection of beer and other hard to find items with reasonable prices. Always a fun place to shop. It has a large variety of imported items from around the globe. I am still not ready to try the lutefisk tv dinner but maybe next time. Definately check out this unique experience if you are ever in Kitsap County!“

“I recently had an opportunity to take my boat into Poulsbo on the Kitsap peninsula. Our beer was running low after a day on the water. I asked someone on the dock if they could direct me to someplace close where I could pick up some “Good” beer. I was directed to a small shop not far from the marina across Front St. named, oddly enough Marina Market. I’m not sure what I was expecting as I approached this modest little shop with a crab trap and a pirate flag in the window. Upon entering, I have to say I was knocked out by the selection of amazing brews. On the shelves and in the coolers of this small store were some of the greatest beers in the world. I wandered around for about 10 minutes like a kid in a candy store unable to decide. Eventually I settled on North Bridge Extreme Imperial IPA, from Denmark, which I had never had before, and Avery Samael’s one of my favorites but hard to find. On my way to the register I past by another cooler filled with incredible imported cheeses and had to pick up a couple to wash down the beer. When I got to the register, I met the owner who complimented me on my selections. We proceeded to embark on a 20 minute conversation about the beers in his store, of which he is quite knowledgeable. Needless to say, our trip to Poulsbo was enhanced more than just a little bit by our experience at Marina Market. If you are passing thru by boat or by car you owe it to yourself to stop in.“

“Marina Market has to be one of the strangest small stores I’ve been in. They have everything from fishing gear to tomatoes! Great selection of killer cheese, licorice (don’t tell anyone about the licorice!) Enough of that though. This joint has probably the best selection of high quality brews on the planet including some quite rare stuff! The owner’s are friendly and helpful. May sound cliche’ but if they don’t have it you really don’t need it. If you’ve been to a World Market and think they have a good beer selection then you will LOVE Marina Market! P.S. One of the owners isn’t afraid to have a beer with you either! “

“good selection for a market, always adding in new brews both local and international. the price is very reasonable, especially on brewers mixed cases. they always run specials on different brews. there is not a problem if you break-up six-packs, they have the single bottle price as well as the six-pack price there on the tag. overall a very nice place to go beer hunting, i have been there about 13 times and i always come home with a few that i have not had before.“
