68 /100 Churchill Tavern (Bar) 19-22 THE PARAGON Visited with Terje 27.11.22. Large pub with several rooms. Three ales on cask at my visit. They serve food and they have a pool table. |
80 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD Visited with Terje 27.11.22. A cosy, characterful and friendly local pub. Four ales on cask at my visit. The pub is decorated with old uniforms and military memorabilia. A burning log fireplace at our visit. No TV. They had free buffet of pies and bums on Sunday lunchtime. Their kitchen is open on Wednesdays. |
40 /100 Moonshine Billy's (Beer Store) 36 KING STREET More of an off-license than a bottle shop, but Gadds and Time + Tide offerings can be found here. Unfortunately there's not much more of note. |
72 /100 Montefiore Arms (Bar) 1 TRINITY PLACE Back street pub between the Aldi and seafront - basically an ale pub for locals and it has a good vibe about it. I was served by a local who came around the bar whilst the server was away. It has two front entrances, which is useful as there's not much room between the bar, its stools and its front wall when the place is full. Local cask can be found here with a keg option too. The pub seems to be a mecca for felines as I had to walk over four cats to get in. There's an enclosed and small terrace area at the rear with bench seats. |
36 /100 26 Harbour Street (Bar) 26 HARBOUR STREET Vibrant locals pub with a thin but long bar within a thin building and horse racing on the television. A plus point here is in good weather its large sliding door windows open up so it allows easy access from the small courtyard in front, which is right on the cusp of the commercial area. The only beer of note that stood out was from Brooklyn Brewery - but a regular one often seen. |
66 /100 Hovelling Boat Inn (Bar) 12 YORK STREET In a lane connecting the Marina to the commercial centre, this is a room with no bar - the gravity dispensed cask comes from a chilled room in the centre of the ground floor. If the weather is nice sit in the enclosed plant and tree filled courtyard at the rear, which despite being a public space would be very quiet if it wasn't for all the birdsong! |
60 /100 Churchill Tavern (Bar) 19-22 THE PARAGON The last pub and seafront building heading South-west after the Royal Parade ends and the road turns inland. The pub looks like a low-brown tourist restaurant from the outside and some of its seaview facing areas in the multi-spaced venue only serve to confirm this. However, the central area holds a dimly lit bar, which does look pub-like. This area is cosy and fills up first with the punters. Local cask is available here, also real cider and some craft keg at the time of my visit. |
66 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD As the name suggests this thin corner pub has a historic decor dedicated to past British warfare - land and sea. It's decorated well and is cosy enough. Split level, the small bar serving real ales and ciders is squeezed into a small front area after you enter. The upper rear has less than half a dozen tables and a sofa also in place. |
68 /100 Conqueror Alehouse (Bar) 4C GRANGE ROAD A fair walk directly south along Grange Road from the inland station of the town. You're still quite far away from the seafront once you reach it. It's on the end of a row of houses in a commercial unit that looks like an unthoughtful extension for the end property - and it's slightly set back from the road. Inside there's no bar, just stool seating along the side window and some tables against the inner wall. Gravity dispensed cask ales are in their own cooling unit with sliding access doors. |
86 /100 Hovelling Boat Inn (Bar) 12 YORK STREET Visited on 6th August 2022 during a "lightning" crawl of the town. This cosy backstreet gem, close to the harbour and seafront, offers up to four cask ales. It is table-service only, however this is provided in style by Jaki who will come and sit with you while you order your pint, and chat with you about what brings you to Ramsgate. I really loved that touch. I enjoyed an absolutely exquisite pint of B.A.D Beer Co. Angels & Demons Black Taxi To The Moon (stout) that was benchmark. Although I spent roughly 30 minutes at the HBI, it really merits a stay of far longer. |
60 /100 Conqueror Alehouse (Bar) 4C GRANGE ROAD Micropub on the south side of Ramsgate. Decent micropub. Beer range isn't always on the adventurous side. Sometimes I've found the beers to be over vented. Worth a stop for a half pint. |
70 /100 26 Harbour Street (Bar) 26 HARBOUR STREET Great addition to the scene in central Ramsgate. I loved the vibe in here. Good food made in the open kitchen at the back. Up to 8 beers on tap and some really good bottles in the fridges. Not a huge choice, but very well selected. I sat at the bar chatting to the owner. Good outlet for Time and Tide brewery beers. |
70 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD Such a characterful pub. Great interior living up to the Artillery Arms name. Half a dozen beers on handpull. Good value too. The banter at the bar is always interesting. |
58 /100 Hovelling Boat Inn (Bar) 12 YORK STREET Decent micropub in the centre of Ramsgate. Normally 4 ales on gravity and some ciders. Normally a good buzz of conversation. |
54 /100 Moonshine Billy's (Beer Store) 36 KING STREET Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it had a good selection of Time and Tide brewery beers. Some other real ales. Not worth making a detour to, but worth sticking your head into if passing on your way to The Ravensgate Arms. |
80 /100 Montefiore Arms (Bar) 1 TRINITY PLACE A classic back street local pub. There are few of these that I want to go to more than this one. Simple L shape layout with a central bar area. Service is efficient and friendly. Gadds Ramsgate Brewery beers feature heavily with some high quality British guest beers. Value is amazingly good. The banter is top notch. I just feel at home here. |
78 /100 Montefiore Arms (Bar) 1 TRINITY PLACE Really nice and friendly. Great real ales andthe best cider! |
62 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD Nice cozy bar. Some fresh ales from smaller breweries on tap. |
94 /100 Conqueror Alehouse (Bar) 4C GRANGE ROAD A must do when in Ramsgate good beer good chat will be back |
76 /100 Belgian Cafe (Bar) 98 HARBOUR PARADE A pleasant bar on the seafront with a broad selection of mainly Belgian beers, though no real rarities for UK. Food menu included seafood & features daily specials. Visted 13 May 2013. |
52 /100 TheDrinkShop.com (Beer Store) UNIT 25, LEIGH ROAD Dla mnie zbyt maly wybor piw. |
62 /100 Belgian Cafe (Bar) 98 HARBOUR PARADE In some ways a bit of a sister pub to La Trappiste in Canterbury - the owners are family, and the bottled beer selection is almost identical. Not many ticks for someone who’s sought out Belgian beers for as long as I have, but I still managed to find a couple, as almost everything’s big-ish name stuff. However, for England, this is an unusually broad selection. Slightly scruffy pub, but I don’t mind that in a pub. The owner’s a diamond geyser, he sorted us out with accomodation - we’d come to town without booking anything! The rest of ramsgate, to be honest, looked like a shithole. I think only one other pub looked worth going to, the rest were boom-chi, chrome and flashig like macro swill places, and we didn’t have a chance to get to that other OK looking one. So this would be the first place I’d aim for in town. Very easy to find - just follow the coast. Breakfast at 8am too - magic! |
100 /100 TheDrinkShop.com (Beer Store) UNIT 25, LEIGH ROAD Fantastic on-line off-licence. |
74 /100 TheDrinkShop.com (Beer Store) UNIT 25, LEIGH ROAD I ordered some beers through their web shop. Communication was quick and easy, and in 7 days (including weekend) I had my beers home. Unfortunately some of them were broken. Refunded. It’s more about wines and spirits, but selection of beers is not bad. There are beers from USA, Scotland, England, Iceland, Australia etc. They have also some ciders. |
68 /100 Montefiore Arms (Bar) 1 TRINITY PLACE Great local for session drinking. Usually has 2 x Ramsgate brewery on tap (gadds) and one less usual beer. The publican is friendly and knows how to keep the beer. |
90 /100 Montefiore Arms (Bar) 1 TRINITY PLACE Great back street local, always a warm welcome and excellent real ale. |
80 /100 Conqueror Alehouse (Bar) 4C GRANGE ROAD Very friendly and welcoming micropub with an excellent and ever changing selection of Kentish real ales. Well worth a visit! |
76 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD I agree with Mr. Bman here, I really like the Artillery. An often changing selection of a good choice of well kept beer. Interesting locals, really great service, even though there is usually only one person behind the bar. A proper boozer. They still do a meat raffle too! |
78 /100 Artillery Arms (Bar) 36 WEST CLIFF ROAD Old fashioned pub 5 minutes walk from the center of town. Has 6 ever changing ales on handpull that are always in top condition. You are always going to find one or two beers from The Ramsgate Brewery on in here as well. In my opinion one of the best real ale pubs in Thanet. |
