78 /100 Hop Micro Pub (Bar) 70 BANK STREET Little micro pub on the main street with some decent local beers upstairs is usually quieter |
82 /100 Casked (Bar) 16 BURY ROAD Lovely spot with an ever-changing range of cask and keg usually a good atmosphere inside and just across from the buffer stops bar |
70 /100 18 NEWCHURCH ROAD Modern industrial style bar decent range of northern whisper beers as you would expect |
68 /100 Hop Micro Pub (Bar) 70 BANK STREET On the main shopping street at the top end, this is a tiny shop unit pub with the bar making the drinking area very much a squeeze when several groups frequent, nevertheless it packs in half a dozen cask pumps so it must be turning over a fair amount of brews in the week. One cask is currently the house beer made for them by a local micro. |
72 /100 18 NEWCHURCH ROAD Large open plan Brewery Bar...with 10 taps and 8 hp's.. |
70 /100 Buffer Stops (Bar) BURY ROAD, Being on the old station (now a preserved railway) it is handy! When trains are running they offer beer in plastic cups to take away! Or you can have a glass if you drink in. |
66 /100 18 NEWCHURCH ROAD Long open plan tap room with the bar along the inner wall at the rear, with plenty of bench seats with tables opposite and in the entrance area. There's a few outdoor seats facing the road by the entrance and stool chairs along its side window. Has an equal mix of cask and keg lines offering up most of its current and regular brews, with three keg ciders from Talking Horse also available at the time of writing. Quite a modern looking place, but deserted on the Sunday evening of my first visit. |
60 /100 Casked (Bar) 16 BURY ROAD Visited this bar in summer 2019 when it was in a temporary unit on Bank Street whilst work was being done on its current location. I have yet to visit the new location but suffice to say it is cask ale oriented with changing options. Will update when I get to the new venue. |
74 /100 Buffer Stops (Bar) BURY ROAD, Handy when visiting the ELR ... |
72 /100 Buffer Stops (Bar) BURY ROAD, At the end ( or start) of the East Lancashire railway great place for a pint between trains outstanding always on + other micros great as part of a mini pub crawl along with irwell beer (Ramsbottom ) and trackside (bury) |
74 /100 Buffer Stops (Bar) BURY ROAD, At the northern terminus of the heritage East Lancashire Railway line, this bar occupies the L shaped station house just a couple of metres away from the buffers that give this place its name. The entrance to the bar area is via the platform where there’s some outdoor seats too. Here there’s a mix of cask and keg with local and regional selections available alongside the house ale made by Outstanding brewery (which is also available at the Trackside Bar in Bury at the other end of the line). There willl probably be a keg option or two from this brewer. There are two other rooms to sit and sup in if the bar area is full, including a family room on the other side of the building which you can only get to by going back outside first. |
74 /100 Buffer Stops (Bar) BURY ROAD, Visited several times in July
Situated at Rawtenstall station on the East Lancs Railway. Has 5 ales on HP, one is always Piston Broke, house beer by Outstanding and 4 guests plus a cider. Also 4 Keg beers from Outstanding on tap plus Timmermans.
Decent range of micro brews in decent condition, seems to be popular with locals too.
One roomed affair in the station with outside seating to watch the trains. A decent place and handy stop between trains. |
