“The taproom was locked when I stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon, so I went into the homebrew shop next door to ask about their hours. They said the taproom is open whenever the shop is open and asked me if I wanted a beer. The brewer took me around to the taproom and proceeded to pour me some samples and a pint of very tasty beer. Apparently there is a special license for breweries that use NY ingredients - currently required to be 60% of the total, and it's supposed to increase every year but hasn't in a while. That's the only connection to a farm this place has. That said, the beers really showed off the local grains and hops nicely, and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. They also make a cider that you can buy by the glass or in 55 gallon batches and they serve mead as well.“

“Small place super friendly. Old school beers but good. Apps only for food.“

“A great place to go for a quiet drink. Ten beers on tap, including six house beers. Nice selection of cider, mead and wine, as well. This place is owned by the people that own the Homebrew Emporium, but these aren't homebrews you're drinking.“

“The service is always good. The food is never very good. Beer selection is alright, a few nice finds. But the real appeal here is the 2-for-1 all day every day deal. Two draft beers for the (still inexpensive) price of one. Good value at an otherwise unspectacular place.“

“Ate here while traveling. Typical sports bar wannabe. Saw a Sierra Nevada sign, so I knew they had at least one decent beer. Had to wait more than 5 minutes for someone to seat us even though only about 10 percent of the tables were occupied. The craft beer selection was not large--mostly Sam Adams and Southern Tier--but there were several I was interested; I was from outstate and they appeared to be regional offerings I was unfamiliar with. However, when I asked about the "Ubu ale" I was told that, "It’s kind of a dark beer." (I looked it up when I was home; based on the ratings, I would have liked it.) I settled for a Southern Tier IPA with my meal. Another disappointment: they offer "2-for-1" but the 2 beers are 10 oz each. To add insult to injury, they are served in chllled mugs. The beer was too cold to taste. Food was good.“

“I went here during a short layover in Rensselaer while westbound on Ambak from Boston to Chicago. The train conductor recommended it. It’s a few blocks away from the station which you can see. I got there and there were only a couple of customers and an attractive young lady bartender. I had a couple of tap beers, one was a regional and the other a Red Hook. Bartender allowed me to get a photo of her outside and also took a couple of breaks to go outside for phone calls. She was pleasant and chatty. Place had a metal flake bar top, a wood rail elbow rest, and brass pipe foot rest. Stone tile floors and dropped ceiling & ceiling fans. Wood barstools with back rest. Ok place; decent for a break while the train waits for its additional cars to be added.“
