48 /100 36 KIRKGATE A few cask ales, but selection was quite boring. One of the most expensive pubs in town. Staff were fairly good. Food OK |
54 /100 One Eyed Rat (Bar) 51 ALLHALLOWGATE Pub on the outskirts of town. A range of cask ales in good condition. |
60 /100 The Golden Lion (Bar) 69-70 ALLHALLOWGATE, This Greene King is under new management from Dec-23. The Landlord is keen on keeping cask ale in top condition. Expect something a little different from other pubs in Ripon. They try to keep 2 pales, 2 ambers & a dark beer on the bar at all times. One of their beers usually being 5%+. The Landlord's son provides hearty food. The pies are particularly good. |
62 /100 36 KIRKGATE Big pub in the town centre that has had a bit of money spent on it. My pint of Landlord was served in good condition, the ambience was friendly and service efficient. A solid pub. |
62 /100 Unicorn Hotel (JDW) (Bar) MARKET PLACE EAST Well worth a visit. Good selection of local cask ales and excellent value for money. |
62 /100 One Eyed Rat (Bar) 51 ALLHALLOWGATE Pretty decent neighbourhood craft beer bar. The beer list online was not accurate when I visited. Decent selection nonetheless although I was disappointed as the Oakham beer I went in for was not on. Clean toilets. Beer garden looked like it would be pretty good in summer. |
66 /100 Drinkswell (Beer Store) 34 MARKET PLACE Old fashioned fronted and cosy shop with a decent selection of beers. Could have picked up a dozen Yorkshire ticks here If I a had been inclined but all bitters, gold and stouts. Ended up with an Old Ale and and IPA (that I later discovered - only had 6 weeks left on BBE). Prices were a little higher than expected. Decent selection of miniatures. Overall fine. |
64 /100 Drinkswell (Beer Store) 34 MARKET PLACE My local bottle shop, a mere 30 minutes drive away. Overpriced. |
78 /100 Water Rat (Restaurant) 24 BONDGATE GREEN Quaint public house, 2 minutes walk from the town center. 4-5 casks, lovely porch right on the river and a homely atmosphere. |
68 /100 Unicorn Hotel (JDW) (Bar) MARKET PLACE EAST In one corner of the pretty central marketplace which is partly a car park except on market day, this pub is also a hotel as the name suggests. The building is more depth than width and there’s not a lot of natural light, along with the low ceilings this makes it a darkly lit intimate venue as there’s plenty of walls and pillars stopping it from being a conventional open plan pub which is popular with this chain group. The bar is of a considerable length but only stocks one row of ale pumps, although this is an extended one. |
64 /100 36 KIRKGATE A short walk from the Cathedral, 6 real ales from Timothy Taylor and guests. Service was a bit slow. |
68 /100 36 KIRKGATE Large place, nice range of beers. Decent food.Centrally located, easy to find. |
90 /100 Drinkswell (Beer Store) 34 MARKET PLACE Love this shop, fantastic selection with good information on the beers, they also a good selection of glasses. A little too expensive for me but they do deals on multi buys. |
