“A very cute little centuries old building that was the water works awhile ago. Inside is something of a thrift store, many curiosities and tables and everything had a price tag on it. They specialize in cask ales, plenty of those, and also some local ciders. A great stop if in Rye, highly recommended.“

“What a find. A combination of and old antique shop and a pub! A great selection of gravity cask local ales and ciders. Super friendly and helpful staff. Working WiFi. Wished I could have stayed longer. If you have time to visit just one place in Rye, this is it!“

“A superb micro pub five minutes walk from Rye station. 8 real ales from gravity, 6 real ciders and 3-4 lines of craft keg on offer at this superb micropub. Staff very welcoming. Food mainly consists of snacks like scotch eggs and pork scratchings. Good friendly atmosphere makes an enjoyable visit. Can get crowded and turnover is fast so beers never on for more than a few days. A lot of local micro breweries feature such as Three Legs, including a good pilsner on keg from them. The building is stooped in history and has a chequered career. It started as a water pump house, then a soup kitchen, then a public toilet!! A must visit in Rye.“

“Under new management from January 2018 .....Great pub with a great atmosphere!! Just at the top of the village cose the Castle with a warm pub feeling inside and a large beer garden outside .. good choice of local Ales and a German Pils among others .. very nice service from Jeff and his staff with casks at the right temperature and well selected.. live music during our stay .. unmissable if you’re in town !!!“

“The pub it’s self is nice and friendly but the casks are not kept in a proper way so the result is a bad condition of the beers .. said that its still a lovely place for a pint“

“A pub of two halves... a really quite quaint posh olde worlde half full of artefacts and history; the other half a pool table and swearing lager louts! Just 3 handpumps but the English Garden from Franklins was good.“

“A nicely done up pub in the centre. Was pleased to see 3 beers from new local microbrewery Three Legs and a beer from Old Dairy on the 4 handpumps in good condition.“

“Not as posh as some pubs in town but an old fashioned boozer offering 5 real ales plus usual dross on keg. Decor a bit run down. Among the beers Old Dairy Cattle Shed and a beer from Westerham were in good condition.“

“A lovingly restored pub on the edge of town, well worth the detour. 5 ales were on : Harveys Best and (in excellent nick) Old Ale, local Romney Marsh Amber Ale plus 2 house beers (brewed by Tonbridge). Inside lots of nooks and crannies, very comfortable, food looked good and the olives were among the best I’ve ever tried.“

“Update 2018 : Unfortunately beer choice and quality has nose-dived. As a result I have lowered my ratings of this pub and recommend better pubs elsewhere in Rye. Just one remotely interesting beer on had to be returned as was off. A shame as in 2016 : A deservedly popular bar which still feels like a pub despite also being quite foody. Looks nice outside and inside. More importantly there were 3 real ales including Rockin Robin RPA which was in good nick. They also sell a few on keg eg. Leffe Blonde and Sierra Nevada.“
