“Roof top tables with an excellent view of the river and the ships transiting the Soo Locks. An exceptionally nice October day was wonderful to sit with a cold beer and watch the river. Everyone was friendly and it was a great way to end the evening.“

“Cramped. But that's a hallmark of any good place. Staff exceptionally helpful. Good selection of locals. HUGE BYO section. Prices solid. Only quibble is no large format selection. I'd be shocked if this wasn't the best store in the area. UPDATE: I just noticed I bought a session IPA that was canned on 03/23/2017. Bought it today 7/3/21. So about 52 months old. Their score was 80, and that's about to come down quite a bit. UPDATE 2: Just minutes after update 1, I checked some cans and realized many are 1, 2, 3 year old IPAs. I've changed my mind. Avoid this place. I've been to a few hundred bottle shops and I don't think I've seen anything this egregious. Score from 80 to 64 to... we will see. UPDATE 4 (7/11/2021). Score history is 80... 64... 44... and now its going to go down any more. I haven't been back, but, as I drink a nearly 3.5 year old pale ale, I'm reflecting on the 8/10 I gave them for service. Yes, they were friendly, but, at least someone in that store knows they're selling crap beers to people. An employee was very friendly as he was restocking beers in the singles section. In fact, I took one of the beers that he had just put on the shelf, and on the bottom is stamped "10SEP19." Maybe he was ignorant, but that's unforgiveable. The best case scenario is they're incompetent, but I feel that they know they are screwing the fine people of Sault St Marie. I know I'll never be back. New score 12.“

“On the main drag in Soo. As is typical it seems, rooftop deck. Menu looked good but I had just eaten, so I didn't get to try it. Prices good overall, on beer and food. Tried a flight of all four of the beers on tap (they also have cider and wine on tap). The first two (APA & IPA) were very poor, and one was a diacetyl bomb. But the two stouts were solid. Staff were all friendly. Not worth going out of your way but a decent stop if you're in town.“

“So this is a bit convoluted. Soo Brewing is now located at the old Lockside Brewing location. The original Soo is closed. The Lockside brand is gone (was also Soo Brewing). And the 100 W Portage place is the new (as of January 2021) Soo Brewing location. Reviews here prior to 2021 are for the old place. Small feeling but deceptively large. Comfortable enough. I did not check out the rooftop deck. Four beers on tap. No flights, but they did offer 8 ounce pours. Tried two of them and both were bad. Just very poor execution especially for a brewery that has been open a decade. The amber lager tasted and smelled of canned tomatoes. The amber lager was overly sweet and tasted like extract (as a former extract homebrewer I know you can easily avoid that taste). I think they had 16 taps and only 4 beers on offer. Ordered a burger. Best part of the meal was the fries. Burger was COMPLETELY unseasoned. Produce looked gross. Couldn't finish it. Staff was friendly, but not exactly competent. Overall hard pass.“

“Definite must visit when in the area...partly of course because there aren't many other craftbeer choices...but very much in part because they are a worthwhile stop. The place itself is almost worth the visit alone...very eclectic with a lot of unusual décor items and decorations. It's a large odd shaped room with sizable windows looking out on the main street. I think they have probably stepped up their game some since the last review...there were now 10 beers on draft when I visited. I would agree that the beers likely won't blow you away...or cause you to drive to this corner of the US just for beer...but if here...or passing nearby...you will be happy you did stop. A couple of beers I liked when I visited were 13 IPA, Soo Grand Cru, Crystal Blue Persuasion. The people here were nice...easy to start up a conversation about the city and the area if you wish to. We enjoyed our visit (then headed down the road to Wicked Sister to eat...craftbeer on tap there too)“

“Soo Brewing Co is pretty much the only brewery in Sault Ste Marie (besides the Lockside Brewery) and their brews are pretty okay. A bit boring selection but the ones they have they brew pretty well. Five beers to choose from. They serve flights of 4. They don’t serve food. The place itself is quite old-school and simple. But if you’re looking for local beer in Soo this is the place.“

“Reviewed from notes from a long time ago when I first started liking beer, period. I have to commend this store as this was the store that brought to Bell’s and pretty much any Bell’s beer I could find without having to make the drive down state to go to the brewery. Staff is fairly friendly, and the place is fairly clean as well. When you’re in Sault Ste. Marie, and you’ll looking for craft beer, go here. Of course, this review is also from 2006.“

“Neat place with a hometown bar feel, in a good way. The head brewer was on hand to answer questions. Nice selection of brews on a rotating basis. Well worth the time for a visit. If I were a Soo native, this would be my go-to place.“

“A nice selection for such a small town. Very helpful. A bit more pricey compared to the Supervalue down the street.“

“The Soo is a wasteland for good beer, but the locals all go to the corner store. A handful of Founders, Bells and Shorts beers along with some Stone and Laguinitas bottles, usually some Ayinger Celebrator as well. Staff is usually fairly helpful, though don;t think about bringing empties back you didn;t buy from here. I graded this on a scale - compared with anything else in the Soo area this is world class. Prices are very competive considering the store has virtually no competition!“

“A few years ago, in 2006, I thought this store was pretty awesome. It had a nice range of Jolly Pumpkin, along with other regional Michigan micros. Now, the selection seems to have dwindled significantly. The best I could find was some of the recent Shorts 12oz bottles. The prices are fair. There are singles, the selection isn’t that great. However, this is the best you’ll do in Sault Ste Marie, that’s for sure.“
