“Surprisingly large Gaststätte in this tiny village, with many communal tables to sit at and already lots of patrons shuffling in shortly after opening time on a Thursday afternoon. The beer they serve here is phenomenal, very multi-layered and moreish, and the food is rustic, tasty and cheap. Hopelessly understaffed for most part of the afternoon and a bit difficult to get to by bicycle (the cycling lanes are all over the place, just not next to any roads), the beer is still definitely worth a short visit though.“

“Visited 5.10.17 in the afternoon. Strolled around town until it opened at 5 (nothing special there). Small front room, beams on the ceiling and tiled heater. Seasonal decorations, though green and not orange-brown like the rest of Germany in that season. We were the only people in the taproom save for one family - probably the owners/ family. Served by the grandmother. Beer was good and fresh.“

“Quick visit. Decent beer served by a friendly waitress. Cheap. Didnt order the chicken, but it looked great. The beer garden was well filled on a ordinary tuesday.“

“Was very crowded on late Friday evening. All local draft beers were in prime condition - so it eхplains the crowd. Took home 4 bottled beers that were not available on tap - also were of great taste.“

“Just Helles & Dunkel but both of great quality. Very friendly brewer - told me a lot interesting facts about regional breweries. Was very nice to visit.“

“Visited mid-morning on 11/8/2015. The Stammtisch was already busy but it was easy to get service from the Grandmother of the family. The courtyard by the brewery was a pleasant place to sit, watch other family members work and locals come to buy bottles and kegs.“

“Visited 14/8/2015 after catching bus 927 from Bamberg to Kremmelsdorf and then walking along a country road. This took 30 minutes and, although quiet, the traffic was travelling at high speed so it wasn’t much fun. However, it was well worth the effort to reach the pub - the single beer on offer was very refreshing on a sweltering hot afternoon, the pfefferhänchen was very tasty and outstanding value at E5.50. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere lively in the courtyard. Very good.“

“Visited Wednesday 22nd April .. We stayed here for a lovely dinner with Andreas Ganstaller and his wife Manuela ..It’s a very nice place very close to Bamberg.. It’s the tipical franken restaurant / brewery where to enjoy the famous chicken with black pepper .. When we talked with the owner/brewee he said their were brewing another kind of beer bacause his wife doesn’t like the lager who he makes .. :)) :)) .. I found the beer good enough but is good that we will able to have 2 different beers here in the future ..“

“Great local brauhaus, close to Bamberg. Visited his cosy place together with my parents. Easy to get to by car, parking very close by. Well cocked food, traditionel franconian food, but they are famous for the pepper chicken. They have one beer, served well conditioned, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. They have seatings outside in the yard, perfect for a warm summerday :-) Visit this place if you are in the area!!“

“Funny enough, my experience was very similar to Martin’s, see below. Show up around 4pm (doh), nobody is home, look around for someone, we want to buy bottles. we are found by grandmom from a second story window, and through a wide language barrier we take her suggestion to look three doors down at another gasthof. Go there and find nothing, so come back. Find someone sitting outside in the little courtyard drinking a bottle of lagerbier, he invites us to sit. A bottle of Roggn and a draft pull of Pils were enjoyed. The Roggn had an unusual but interesting flavor and texture, but the Pils seemed a little limp and had a small amount of DMS. So, my short impression of the beer quality is not good, but I hold out hope that the Weizen Bock is solid. Something to look for next time around. BTW, bottles can be found at the getränkemarkt on the western edge of town. I didn’t have a proper session inside, but I did get a sense of the beer and my score is based on some vague understanding of how much I enjoyed the experience. If it’s easy enough, I like to give any brewery a second try given inconsistency and seasonality and a lot of other voodoo that goes on in the brewhouse. So don’t take my 60/100 to mean much other than I put this in the mid-tier / average group for Franconian breweries to visit right now. A revisit is likely because of proximity to the Ganstaller Zoiglstube. But that’s a curse as well, to be so close and share the Drei Kronen name with the best brewer in the world 2km away.“

“Not so far from Gänstaller Drei Kronen, this is why you should come here. Their pfefferhänchen is a legend and their kellerbier (the only one they serve) is ok. Kind service and nice place outside.“

“Visited March 2012. Pleasant small taproom with sort of mock Tudor ceilings and a traditional tiled oven. I had a big problem with language here. The barmaid spoke no English and some of the patrons a little. I wanted to try a few beers but there was no menu so I just had the Lager which came from a small wooden barrel. It was distinctive and good. Regional buses run quite frequently from Bamberg. (Quite unintentionally, my last stop before this brewery was the Drei Kronen brewery in Memmelsdorf).“

“Typical small town Franconian setup with community tables. Reservations taken and they’ll likely be full up around dinner. Only the lagerbier available which was quite nice - EDIT - godawful. And like Martin (and others in the area) recommended, the black pepper half-chicken (pfefferhachnen) is definitely worth ordering. Delicious and surprisingly cheap. If you’re making a trip to the Zoiglstube in Strassgiech you should visit Hoh as well - hell you could walk here in about 20 minutes, or about 5 on a bike.“

“TIny countryside brewery with its own chickens in the barn. The black pepper chicken dish, by the way, could not be tastier. Even though the village is as small as it gets, the terrace was quite busy when we went on a weekday afternoon. I imagine everyone in the village has a brew a day here, or almost. Their house brew is a rough, sweetish dark lager; not bad, but not nearly as accomplished as Knoblach’s brews, a few towns over, or those from the two Schesslitz breweries for that matter. In any case, having a brew and chicken plate here is like stepping into the past. A magical experience for authenticity seekers.“

“Small, quite cozy Gasthaus with a patio and additional tables on the large brewery yard. One quite attractive house-beer is served. Simple meals available. Worth a visit.“

“We waited for the place to open up for dinner after their midday break (from 2 to 5), but at 5:15 there was still no sign of anyone inside. The door was open though, so we walked about in the schwemm until the matron showed up. She looked obviously worried that we wanted to eat something (the lights had remained closed in the Gaststätte), but luckily I was only there for a taste of their ungespundetes Lagerbier, otherwise known as Schäazer Lagerbier. So the grandmotherly matron set me up in the yard at the back of the schwemm, between the pub/restaurant and the actual brewery. The Lagerbier was rich and very drinkable, a very good example of Franconian brewing knowledge. I wouldn’t mind coming back here to get a bottle of their Weizenbock, or just to sit in the small Gaststätte and actually get a better feel for the place.“
