“Really nice place to eat and drink. About 10 crafty beers on the menu, some common stuff, one or two less common local-ish (e.g. a unique Troeg's). Food was great , vibe was great, sit at bar for the local's experience, or table service. Jack was at the end of the bar holding court.“

“Place is amazing! 25 beers on tap. Service is slow but good. Dim lights and big windows high up. Plenty of parking in there own lot.Atmosphere is very festive. Souvenir shop here. Growlers.to go. Inside and patio dining Bering here. Very cool place, just bring your wallet and have some extra time on your hands. Cheers!“

“Located in downtown Scranton not far from the Yniversity of Scranton and Lackawanna college. Like a lot of seafood restaurants they have a massive parking lot. Very cheesy decor. For example They have this massive display of toothpaste from around the world and the men’s bathroom is decorated in and plays nothing but A Hard Days’s Night era Beatles. Food’s solid but never going to be what you can get in a more coastal area. The the tap list everchanging and contains the occasional Mikkeller or Cigar City which is a pleasant surprise. They also have over 350 in bottle plus a computerized inventory system on the Bar which makes it easy to find them. I’d say this is defined worth stopping by if you’re in the area.“

“This place is a time capsule. I guess when you accumulate stuff since the 40’s this is what you get, pirate/nautical theme with tons of sports and historical plaques/newspapers on the walls .. Neat diamond in the rough. Ambiance is old and a bit dated, but a nice family place to grab some great food and beer with your kids. Seafood was great and the tap list had nice variety with some solid IPA’s and local stuff as well .... the bottle list is awesome very well put together, lots of variety and you can grab any of it to go .... picked up a barrel aged narwhal, prairie bomb and some bourbon county stout .... beer heaven for that area ... service was slow, but definitely seek this place out“

“I’ve been to many Wegmans that have sold beer, even in PA despite their relatively strange beer laws. This location is really no different, seems a tad smaller than their Harrisburg location. They offer mix 6’ers, regular 6 packs or even half cases. Selection was pretty good considering the area, nabbed some local offerings I can’t get at home. Checkout was friendly and I was on my way!“

“Not all that much to do in Scranton hanging around for a concert so we gave Ale Mary’s a visit. Kind of a unassuming place outside, inside is a spacious sports bar setting. There are 15 or so drafts and quite a bottle selection. Food was above average American fare for lunch. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall glad I had the time to stop by, a flat-bread and some beer samplings were very fairly priced.“

“This is a dressed up conveinence store located one block down from the University. They have a large selection of craft beer regulars with a mix a six, bombers and a growler station. There are multiple coolers full of beers to choose from. All the big players are here and a few local options as well. However, the pricing is sky high...even for this area. I walked in and was immediately turned off by the pricing as it was a few dollars more then the other options in the area offering the same beers.“

“Solid bar with a much better selection than anticipated. They had offerings of Troegs, Victory, Nimble Hill and Breaker on tap...along with a host of others. There is also a cooler full of bottles behind the bar with large and small format offerings from most of the major craft players, locals and Belgian/German. After the close of the Banshee a few years back this seems to have picked up the torch nicely for downtown Scranton.“

“Solid beer place with lots of six packs. Nice aspect is that they keep at least one sixer of everything cold, worth it when picking beer up for a party last minute. Small selection of large format bottles. Offerings from all the major players with decent amount of PA brewers represented. Pricing was decent. Was a little surprised upon walking in to see the entire place filled with beer.“

“Nice corner bar in the Green Ridge section of Scranton. Always wanted to stop in and finally had the chance. Had about 20 taps with mostly all craft from the likes of DFH, Susquehanna, Shawnee, Ommegang, Victory, Troegs, etc. Good variety of bottles representing PA. I was hoping for a few more locals but hear that they rotate them through. Lots of bottle offerings with bombers as well. Nothing off the charts but a very solid selection.“

“Met up with a friend last night while in town for business, figured we both like good beer so this place would be perfect. Atmosphere was pretty good. Not too many people around but it was an "off" night so I wasn’t expecting much. A few TV’s and a Jukebox made up for the lack of people. Quality was pretty good. I was offered my Matilda in a pint of Chalice. Service was great. He checked up on us multiple times, talked beer with us and even offered us on of the fresh nugget nectars that had just walked in the door. No food at the moment but they are apparently building a kitchen, albeit slowly according to our bartender. Selection was pretty solid. I was hoping for a few more local offerings but it was still pretty solid. I got a Goose Island Matilda and an Old Forge Pale Ale. Overall a nice beer bar that I would definitely return to if I am ever in the area again.“

“Stopped by while back in Scranton for my 10 year college reunion at The U. Really impressed with this place. It is a legit beer bar. I was disappointed that there was no food offerings because I really believe that is crucial to the beer bar scene. Will definitely stop back when in Scranton.“

“Plastic Paddy bar located in scenic downtown Scranton. Stopped in for dinner and drinks. Surprisingly decent beer menu with offerings from Susquehanna, Victory, Flying Dog, Chimay, Troegs and others. Food was passable. Have a rooftop patio that looked nice. Beers are on the expensive side for Scranton area.“

“Lots of great beers in bottles and on taps. Offerings cover the spectrum from all well known and lesser known craft brewers. Best beer bar in Scranton, indoor and outdoor bars made it easy to get beers even when busy. Would like to see more of a focus on locals such as Three Guys, Breaker, Shawnee and Bullfrog. Also the smoking on the outdoor patio is terrible, coming from Philly it is a shock when people can smoke in an establishment...even if it is outdoors.“

Wegmans - Scranton (Grocery Store)

“Wegman’s usually have pretty solid beer sections but being in PA we’re just happy they figured out a way to sell beer. They have a decent pick-six section and they really highlight the craft beer more than the BMC. As the other commenter said except for 3 DFH’s there’s a complete lack of larger bottles which makes theism lesser than even other PA Wegman’s locations.“

A ton of great stuff on tap (from Mikkeller to DFH, Stone to Victory) in addition to a thorough bottle selection which includes Alesmith, Hoppin Frogs, Cigar City, Jolly Pumpkin, Victory. Staff is really friendly. Nice outdoor area in the back with another bar.“

“I stopped in on a Wednesday night and it was dead, so service was decent. This is your typical Americanized Irish pub, but a bit more rustic than many. This place is fairly big, with the long space and high ceilings. I can imagine that it gets pretty loud when it’s busy. They do allow smoking if that bothers you. The beer selection is just ok when you compare it to others in the area (Coopers and Arena), but for an Irish influenced pub, it’s not bad. Most of the taps are macro stuff, and the small lineup of bottles tend to focus on craft beer- Rogue, Victory, Troegs, Knights Head, DFH, etc. If your primary focus is selection, I would hit Coopers since it is so close. If you just need a beer and are in the area, this place should meet your needs. Don’t expect a huge selection or any rarities. Beer is not the focus here.“

“The interior is has your cliche seafood decor (fishing nets, portholes, etc. ), but done without getting too cheezy. The bar area is nice and open, and they have an outdoor deck bar for when the weather is nice. The beer list is long, but focuses heavily on the PA and eastern US beers. I found quite a few beers on the list that I have not tried. The only rarity they had on my visit, was 1994 Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek on draft. The kicker was that it was $15 a glass! Ouch!. The food looked rather good, but I had already eaten when I visited. This is the place to hit if you want beer in Scranton. It is definitely worth a stop, but I do not think there are enough rarities to warrant a trip up there. You should be able to get most of the beers in the Philly area.“

“As a Scranton native, I dined at Coopers countless times after graduations and other special events. Whenever I’m back in town I typically stop by for a drink or two. The beer selection is the most extensive in the Scranton area. The bartenders are knowledgeable enough about beer, but the waitresses are clueless. It often takes multiple attempts to get a copy of the updated bottle list if you ask a waitress - it’s best just to sit at the bar if you’re visiting for the beer. Food is adequate, above average for the area. Worth a stop if you’re in Scranton.“

“Went here for a work party and the buffet food was very good. The layout allowed for a good size private party to happen upstairs and mingle easily with the bar downstairs. “Went to dinner here while visiting family. A pretty good restaurant with pretty good service (had to wait for all party members to arrive to be seated?) and really good food that has one of the best selections of beer I’ve seen. Drank Cask conditioned, hand-pumped, Victory Hop Devil, and bought an Allagash Interlude and a 22oz. 2004 Avery The Beast! Highly recommended.“

“One of my favorite restaurants in all the land, big beer selection with everything from all the macro swills to local micros, also available are micros from all over the country and all over the world too, food is absoutely outstanding, not only will they do a round of samplers for their draft beers, but they also do a sampler for their soups, the seafood newburg is the best I have ever tasted, great service, very knowledgeable people there, excellent ambiance with the beach/shore theme, obviously since they are a seafood restaurant, it’s a shame I live two hours away from there or I’d be there at least once a week, outstanding place “

“This is an Irish pub/restaurant located in NEPA but similar to the ones you find in NYC and Ireland as far as architecture and interior design go. The place has a family atmosphere and its owners aim to please everyone The beers on tap are typically commercial with a few microbrews. My cousins seem to like the Hoegaarden on tap. Others dig Smithwicks on draft. I particularly liked the Belgian Frostbite they had on tap. But what I find cool about this place is the cooler with the bottled beers. The owner consistantly changes the selection in the cooler to match the tastes of beer afficianados. They also have a good selection of Irish Whiskeys (14). My grandparents love it here because of the Irish music performed on weekends. They have everything from traditional Irish music, balladeers, step dancers, Irish poetry readings, Finnegan’s Wake, and more contemporary music. I have to say the owners want their establishment to have something for everybody. I can’t think of many places where college students hang with elderly people and see toddlers running around. Dublin, perhaps?“

“This is a total re-rating. Last night I enjoyed a vintage Thomas Hardy’s ale while enjoying some luscious orange ruffie and perusing a three page beer list which lists the beers and their proces. They have HW OTOP, Southern TierJah-Va, Sly Fox Ichor, a great Weyerbacher selection and other regionals like Bullfrog, Southampton IPA on tap and so much more to mention. Do not just settle for the beer guide that comes with the menu. Go straight to the bar and ask a bartender for the weekly beer list. Check out the cooler, the gift shop which allows for mix and matching and the historical mementos that align the restaurant. I’ll be back for sure!!!!“
