“Small but attractive taproom, copper jacketed brewhouse visible behind the bar. Patio with umbrella tables. Nice beer including several spontaneously fermented. Good stop.“

“I actually went here for some new brewery tick from Arcadia or something but it kicked before I got there. Busy place, chain feel. I was forced to mill around the bar area until a seat opened up. Tap list was locals/regional focused; nothing too amazing, but when I realized that HopMonk is actually a brewery on the site I perked up and ordered the Keller. I did not try the food but the bar service was first rate. Beer kinda sucked but you don't have to oder their shite unless you are a shameless ticker such as myself.“

“Yeah, this was a busy place on a rainy day. Life music. Overwhelmed and under-conscientious service. Fair beer.“

“Near the end of the metal gentrified barn structures part of the Sebastopol marketplace. I like the vibe in the whole area, and this was no exception. Friendly service with a good selection of about 16 beers, reasonably priced flights and quality brews.“

“Will likely revisit and update this rating, but gotta put it out there that they are not necessarily open when they are supposed to be. Hours posted on the indow, online and on social media say they close at 8 - but they were closed at 7:01, and all there was to say this was a sharpie slash through the 8 with a 7:00 written in. Glad we went out of the way to visit :( Got back here last weekend. Cool little faux gentrified strip wall/warehouse area. Nice inside and out with a clean almost too slick look, ample outdoor seating. OK service, good beer and decent prices.“

“RAther small Whole Foods, with a pretty lame selection of beers. Found a couple I was looking for, but this was probably the leanest selection at any Whole Foods I have ever seen. Not so cheap either.“

“Visited on a Tuesday at lunchtime on our way back from a trip to bodega bay while staying in Santa Rosa. Quite quiet when we visited. Food smelled good but we didn’t try any. 8 of their own beers on tap and a guest beer in tap. Also 28 bottles from a variety of breweries mostly from American also some German/Danish beers. They after taster flights which s reasonably priced. Very present place to spend some time.“

“The geography of this area is baffling. We hit Santa Rosa, and go west down a dusty road, passing barns, fields, and even a pile of tires. But then you break into a small town setting - Sebastopol - and take a right and suddenly you’re in this gleaming complex of brand new stores, each and everyone catering to something artistic, artisanal or just plain tasty. Across from the bronze sculpting work area is a rare book store dealer, and adjacent to that is Woodfour. It’s a large, open, airy and beautifully decorated spot, with a wall of beers representing different styles. Each hangs from a metal noose, unconsumed and unenjoyed. There’s even a Westy over on the wall on the far end, unassuming but still gorgeous. There weren’t too many people around, so we casually worked our way through a full flight of tasters and had a good conversation with the beertender and a few other employees. And it was here where we felt welcome enough to just wait out rush hour traffic, and settle into a full pint at the end of our flight adventure. Maybe Sebastopol is a well known cultural hub, an oasis for exiles from San Francisco’s rapidly rising rents, but whatever it is, it surprised us with all kinds of pleasantries, not least of which was really terrific beer in an engaging environment.“

“Been here a couple of times. It’s pretty unknown of, but it’s very nice. It looks like it should be open for more than 3 hours a week, and that is by far it’s biggest drawback. The people here are super nice, and it’s not uncommon to see them hanging out and drinking with the customers. The selection is good, rotating taps and bottles. They usually have what’s in season on tap and 2-3 others. They do growler selling and fills here as well. No food for sale. They do have a cider sampler, 6 (?) ciders I believe in 4 ounce pours, also. Yum!“

“Visited November 28, 2014.

I’ve never been to the quaint little town of Sebastopol before but it’s nice here. It’s a small town funded by wine tourists, but it now also has three breweries. This is right across the street from Warped. I’d say neither is yet a very good brewery, though this one is slightly better than Warped. There is a large bar, some tables, and plenty of patio seating, though it was raining during our visit. They had a set of three different wet hopped lagers and five other beers. Naturally we tried all of them. The one wet hopped lager and the Coffee And Pie were decent, bordering on good, but the rest were not something I’d order again. Service and atmosphere are friendly and it’s a nice area, just don’t want to drink anything made here. Head to Russian River a few miles further east.“

“Swung by on the way back from the coast. Nice place, old railroad depot, good sized out door area. Sat outside on the deck area, waiter was good, quick, polite. I got the samosas pretty good. Tried some of the wife’s ham and cheese, which was also good, more ham than cheese, fine beer selection, I had the hop monk IPA wife had the Dunkel, both were fine, they did have Pliny on, but we were going to RR for diner do dint try, also Drakes, Moonlight, not really a value spot, you pay a fair price for good food. Overall I like it, if this were in my town I’d be here plenty. Outdoor space really is the sweet spot, had a guy singing, playing guitar. Not an go outta your way for spot, but if you’re in or driving through Sebastopol check it out.“

“Somewhat upscale brewpub in a bit of an upscale shopping district. Food all looks very nice and is well conceived, but a bit on the expensive side. They had about 7-8 house beers, but a couple were out during my visit. Most of them were okay, but a couple of duds and a couple solid offerings. They have a sizable bottle list as well. Service was excellent. They have some sort of communal seating options as well as tables for individual dining groups and a bar. It was pretty crowded during my visit. They seem to be doing a lot of interesting things, so I’d definitely consider stopping in again.“

“Real close to Hopmonk and Woodfour. Really small compared to most Whole Foods as well. Beer selection matches the size of the store. Decent enough choices in terms of quality, but just not that much there. Some ciders, Russian River, New Belgium, Lagunitas, etc. Worth a stop if you’re nearby and need some bottles, but not a destination.“

“Crowded on a weekend night and they had a band playing as well. The main restaurant and bar area is not huge, but they have plenty of outdoor space and a nice large patio area. Service was really quite fast, even with the crowd. They had the four Hopmonk beers available as well as a list of other Bay Area offerings (Drakes, Baeltane, Moonlight, Russian River, etc.). Definitely a nice place to sit and have a beer.“

“Small little restaurant/cafe just a short walk from Fircrest Market. Not really much in the way of draft beer here with just a couple of taps, but a very respectable list of bottles. Seemed to be focused on imports, which was kind of interesting. Lots of Belgian, German, and British beers. Food menu is a bit on the expensive side compared to what you would expect at a lot of beer places (expect to pay in the $20 range for a dinner entree). Certainly not outrageous, though. Beer prices are fairly typical for a restaurant/bar and some good options available. I wouldn’t come out of my way to go here, but a good spot for locals certainly.“

“small grocery store that’s kind of cramped...plenty of parking, though. conveniently located right off the main road. service was okay, nothing really special to note. selection leaves a little something to be desired. small selection of bombers like Lagunitas hairy eyeball, racer x, and some third street aleworks. though they did have some bottles of abyss. lots of sixers of standard beers like Sierra pale, Lagunitas IPA, anchor steam, etc. fair amount of macros on the shelf.“

“Visited on a Monday afternoon, and my experience here couldn’t have been nicer. No food service on Monday’s though, which is a bit of a drag, but the beers made up for it. They had a berlinner, a session sour saison, a couple fresh single hop APA’s and a few others. All were very good. I saw some of the low ratings of the beers were from GABF... they must have been some off batches, because what I had here was top notch. Everything had a very well crafted, rustic farmhouse feel to it, and I mean that in the best possible way. The service was great too. I got a rundown of all the beers and even talked to the head brewer who was an intern at Flossmoor Station a while back. Whatever kinks they had in the early going are gone now. Give these guys a chance, you won’t regret it.“

“A good number of taps, with a number of interesting beers. A large location with 275 capacity including all rooms and the outside patio. Up and coming small chain. House beers made by Gordon Bierch, whom the owner sold his old chain too (Gordon Bierch). Policy oriented staff for the most part.“

“This used to be a great place to get a craft beer. Now it seems that the bartenders have no idea on how to pour a beer. No thanks to the 1" of foam. Not when I am paying $6 a pint. Nor do they any knowledge of the guest beers. This place could be great. They should have gotten this one right before opening the 2nd location. Great stage, great patio. I’ll keep coming because it’s best place for beer in Sebastopol. Please learn how to pour and knock a dollar off the pints.“

“The selection is the best around Sebastopol. They have more shelf space than Whole Foods and just more interest in craft beer than Safeway. Not the best place in the area but for travelers out this way, it’s a worthwhile stop.“

“Very nice place with an adorable beer garden. The house Kellerbier was good, but I admit I preferred to try the guest taps, with some Moonlight and Russian River choices I just couldn’t pass up. Food was also quite good (fresh mussels and oysters, yum!) and service was prompt and professional, if not beer knowledgeable. I am glad to have stopped by because these people seem to care about the total experience, not just the beer menu.“

“Definitely the best selection of bottled beer in Sebastopol, well ahead of Whole Foods (Safeway is terrible here). Deschutes Mirror Mirro, Black Butte XXI, SN 22 ozers, RR Damnation, Temptation, PtE, Blind Big, North Coast BA Rasputin are some of the main highlights. Nothing uber-rare, but large selection of seasonals and harder-to-find barrel-aged releases. Full selection of other CA and regional breweries like Mendocino, Eel River, Moylans, Lagunites, etc. Light on imports, but a whole lot to choose from otherwise. Best prices, and a great produce market to boot. And right off the bike trail.“

“Probably the second-best grocery store for beer in Sebastopol, leading Safeway and behind Andy’s (slightly north of downtown). This place, one of the finest, quickest in-and-out Whole Foods I’ve ever visited, has the basic staples: Russian River PtE and Blind Pig, basic 21st Amendment and Oskar Blues, New Belgium, Dogfish Head, etc. - a total of maybe ten feet of cooler space. Not a huge selection, but craft beer focused with pretty much no macro nonsense to be seen. Andy’s has a much wider bottle selection (incl. barrel-aged Russian Rivers) and their prices are a bit lower to boot.“

“An old train depot converted into this classy brewpub, with a warm decor, eye pleasing. Friendly service. Only 3 beers made onsite, with around 10 interesting guest taps (Russian River Pliny, Duchesse de Bourgogne) a Upscale pubmenu. mix of US micros and belgians in bottles. Free samples given out.“

“I was very excited about this place but ended up very disappointed. On-line they boasted many rare and unique beers, but when I got there, they were all out. The beer menu was outdated, had to order 5 different beers before they had one I wanted, and the waitress looked at me like I was speaking a different language when asked about beer. The place looks cool, and the food is okay. Overall a bad experience, hope if there is a next time I visit it is better.“

“A very cool looking building. Inside, I especially loved the lit up taps. The food I tried was trying too hard to be upscale and was barely palatable to me. However, I am sure those that want something different and pseudo gourmet will dig the food. The beer I had was decent, but served too cold. The service was good and informative. Overall, I was not impressed.“

“Kind of a let down. At least 4 beers on the website and on the menu were not available. Selection was about 8 beers or so and 3 Hopmonk brews. Food is just ok, inside is nice and nice beer garden outside for warmer months. Music venue is sweet. I would much rather make the trek out to Barley n Hops.“

“After spending the afternoon walking around Sebastopol and realizing that it was the first place we’ve seen in two and a half months of driving that we could actually see ourselves living in for an extended period, this place (which we happened to pass by and didn’t know about beforehand, with the site down) was the icing on the cake. Gorgeous bar and dining area, knowledge bar staff, and the kind of beer garden and outdoor patio (even couches) that makes you want to forget about the rest of the day. Had the Ommegang Rouge on tap and lots of other solid California micros. Really cool bar and beer garden that we’re looking forward to going back to soon.“

“Stopped here last night after a day at the beach. The outside of the building looks like the old stone building from a few hundred years ago. Inside, fairly modern chic that made me feel slightly underdressed, but no one seemed to mind. Of the 20 beers listed on their website, they had about 8 on tap (3 house beers, Houlon Chouffe, Pliny the Elder, Anchor Liberty, New Belgium Mothership, Alaskan Summer, and maybe one other {so 9 then}). Out of Moonlight so I was sad. We took our beer out to some couches by the fountain in the biergarten, and even though it was slightly chilly (an employee offered to get us a heater but we declined), it was very niceseemed like I was transported back a few hundred yearsgravel and dirt ground, some baby hop plants. It’s kind of hard to describe, but this place really couldn’t have looked much cooler. Didn’t try the food, but looked at the bar in the back where they have live bandssmall stage and room for maybe 80-100 people. My only bitch is that the tap selection wasn’t that greatI also didn’t bother looking at their bottled selection.“

“I visited this place briefly while in town for a wedding on July 5th. This is located in a really old stone building that I think was a train station or something like that. The font room has a bar with a few tables and a musical stage and dancefloor. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around back to the biergarten. They had about 20 taps and about 80 bottles with a couple beers on cask. They definitely had a really good selection of brews. The menu was fair enough, but the prices were very steep for what you get. I got a turkey sandwich with kettle chips. Small portion and average at best. The one bartender we had was attentive. I did not get to see the restrooms, etc.“

“Probably my new favorite spot in Sonoma County. While there are certainly places that have better taps, Hopmonk has a very good menu, a super nice vibe, with a great bier garden, good service and a very good selection of beers. It’s definitely nicer than your average brew pub, but lacks the pretentiousness that I often see at places like this. Prices are very reasonable. The beer menu caters around the season, so when I went (July) they had an expansive menu of wits, pilseners, IPA’s, etc. They have three house brews, which are currently brewed by Gordon Biersch. There are plans to brew on premise soon. The house brews were very good. The waitress said they plan on always having Pliny the Elder on tap. Don’t miss this place.“

“Visited 3 times during my week long stay in Sebastopol 6/22/08-6/27/08. Probably one of the favorite beer stops of my trip. I didn’t count the taps but judging by the website there are about 20. All quality stuff on draft. 3 house brews that were all pretty tasty. Food is good. I had the Blue Bird Sandwich and the Sausage sandwich both were very good. Prices are reasonable. My party of 4 adults got out of there for just over $100 with more food than we could eat a couple shots and some beers. The restaurant is rustic/modern, bier garden is spacious and relaxing. They have a stage and seperate bar for shows as well. Check it out!“

“I just love this place. It feels very local and homey despite being brand new. Super well done interior and exterior places, great friendly helpful staff, well done array of beers, no macros, draws a good beer crowd. It’s a tad pricey I thought but hey beer isn’t getting any cheaper and neither is food. I like what I’m seeing and trust that the place will evolve well. Looking forward to more now and the future of this place.“
